Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
; K; V. s* v# |+ L•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
1 [: w1 m& b7 R+ l% j) A. _•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
% ]/ b3 b7 B1 t2 T& x+ |: c•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.

•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.

3 k% x( S2 C* c) B0 t5 nJOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

5 I" u1 T9 J/ e8 Z, k5 W•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
% ~, K+ ?) r" m0 n: b' W+ V! g•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
& w/ c2 }9 N% E7 P% g' }showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
( @4 o, Y( G1 i/ x9 I% L  ?" R•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
+ {% r; Y6 ?! N, A  \+ N0 ~•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

* j6 u" {9 d- ^HOURS OF WORK:
( T8 H1 P& r6 o' ]" {Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
/ x6 u0 I4 T" z% N2 N" v1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
