Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
1 E( E6 M2 p  v. p+ T•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
: p% b/ r& o- I•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
5 x' t/ M; ?# A" @' L+ l2 Oand traffic conditions.
4 {) @0 E" B" x•        Adhere to schedules.
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
8 }; W6 O6 j) P•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.
•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
•        Provide excellent customer service.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.

3 G$ D' n, ]& u8 d0 {3 Kto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

' p/ V( z* U, m•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
+ r( d8 |4 r5 ?! l$ S8 n* K•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.

6 u4 g$ l  R$ s& O/ {8 Ishowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
1 l9 [0 x: s2 l; n•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
$ Z/ v* I: ?% _•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
/ O7 W1 ^, K8 E- t. m; O8 N0 JVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
; L) L: E6 |- `Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
