Do you have a strong customer service background with well developed people-skills?  Do you enjoy driving and the challenges of dealing with the public in a diverse work environment?  If you answer yes, and you can meet the requirements below, we’re interested in you.
$ A' l  ]+ H! m9 tEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.1 ]" W  l) O: q0 Q7 o* X

FUNCTIONS:
0 E  N5 q5 h8 N& n•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
! A3 T% Q" T# L  X  Q•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.* ^( i3 x8 {3 d+ T
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.7 ]( z$ ^+ q8 |$ T  F, k# P
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather 0 K% h' K' I- ]; i( N4 F9 g- X
and traffic conditions. % m. {1 }6 ^: M# D6 J3 J( d
•        Adhere to schedules.
7 E3 }: u% x2 k! ~( N8 y+ {1 @•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations. + J2 i# Q, K) X$ c; H% o9 m
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
% z5 ]3 p6 q- t" G•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.: C- E9 \: J9 u% a! y) ]4 U+ k
•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.1 O: }2 m$ O# i

JOB REQUIREMENTS:& a- V+ j! e9 M3 Y% ~
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset., m) ^1 R1 W: P
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
: I4 R: [5 C4 {$ uto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger ( b; Y. V$ C. Q5 z5 \% Q0 w& c: p
of the day.
; G. X; M1 @7 X& a. G# U  }& u' F6 I•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.)., G$ R7 l0 U6 v% ?
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years./ z6 ~1 v' n" M3 h7 \' d) [  L
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.# m& t' ~" j0 p
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) : K7 b& P% o4 T% W$ O* d
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. 6 ]3 ], s9 v8 O
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill 8 `7 r. n2 {5 T' B4 d6 e2 j
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
! \) E, c5 L* [•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
3 n3 K8 E, h" J: d& ?, M7 q1 o7 {•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.% u) e/ B9 p- n# c

& m; u' I( Q6 A5 `) QHOURS OF WORK:' N: {7 K- u1 Z) u7 V- U' D
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week 0 Q: K! y" A% R+ c/ j
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
$ c7 P) p7 \+ o% p( I; y9 O6 JThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly1 q' n$ x/ V3 o

1 k; w4 n: e) M; @9 D0 [Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly8 Q* ?3 d  |; Q% k; u* g) f
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
. E' g/ a' w  A- Z( L$ y8 y) [9 tThe rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
