Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
; K; V. s* v# |+ L• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.& M) S; N8 q# p
• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.

% ]/ b3 b7 B1 t2 T& x+ |: c• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather ; C* i" c! {! u, Z8 C5 y) Z

• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations. ' n) G: K6 {9 m: I

• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.& n( o- p" ]0 B. N5 s( j3 H
• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability 3 \. ~$ X6 M6 x, K3 v$ m
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
% ~, K+ ?) r" m0 n: b' W+ V! g• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.: h/ e) q1 ~, c& t
• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
& w/ c2 }9 N% E7 P% g' }showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. 2 i4 ?+ G' k7 k2 O7 z# Q
• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill - w! c( E; a$ a1 ?) T# ^
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

( T8 H1 P& r6 o' ]" {Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
/ x6 u0 I4 T" z% N2 N" v1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly( R6 a; g# r. V4 |- D. q4 X
Thereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly3 J' u9 W& E/ G# }2 g# e( B7 e# m
