5 g' k' k) ]1 |Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.! T  i* y. s+ A, x0 X4 A

FUNCTIONS:/ z: A  H+ y; ?1 y4 A
•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
$ ^7 H5 ?" ~2 P3 {6 j•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.4 k% T' v' f# T. h5 K
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.8 j+ U/ v& S# K" A. h
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather ; y( l, n& A! V  T
and traffic conditions. 3 T6 Z1 B4 e: g" K& V. v$ ?
•        Adhere to schedules.
4 f0 w0 }+ C9 |1 Z3 L1 g$ c•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations. 3 H6 M1 y- x9 \2 P3 U4 b+ j( ?
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
$ R# i# Z1 B0 E•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.; ]" {  n4 d" V1 ^+ q1 M
•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

4 U( w0 g* M( n7 K# y; H•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
$ L: e1 K" ^, ]5 \( e•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
- N* b! t3 I1 n4 T, Rto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger 1 c, B% u! J  _, O/ y
of the day.9 c3 e* B/ a4 `4 e) W
•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).# K+ T" f! g6 `+ T4 V
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
+ E& R+ W7 h( D: s•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.. k, I; T$ {& C0 W
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
+ o* u7 d- k% a+ y$ q* R5 ushowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. % `/ f* C2 }- i  b
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
0 b9 s+ h4 m4 n" ^video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).1 Q1 b7 w7 M! C- n0 T8 z  o) `. z
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.4 H6 }( e* m2 W/ L+ {, Z/ E" d
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

) p, m2 g9 j! [$ k  e& SHOURS OF WORK:, J5 N$ H7 S# k2 A3 }
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
! l9 L# @  h. d) E5 q0 T& r1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
3 \: S6 m$ K6 O# u9 x3 c. X: AThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly. w# X3 l6 o7 W; r
/ h! Z* H5 O; }. k) _! S
SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004 : g* w0 r+ z9 h3 Y
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly0 X+ f7 V& h  k( g3 K) I' p* }
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly, w& J( Q' Z8 }2 m
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
