/ ^4 g  `- U  K0 k: b- [5 Z8 NEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
6 S" w2 ~8 Z* z5 h# C•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
9 Q$ d1 e" s: u8 h: Q2 i0 p; c•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
3 J5 |" s) h& `% u" Q0 l•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
% k) K" @2 z( Q4 `6 |" `1 a+ j•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.

( n$ t2 l' t, U7 d# T" F9 U•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.

•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
•        Provide excellent customer service.

* j; l# S7 Q& Y9 k& y) S, rJOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
of the day.
•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
. G+ b, L5 l& h$ h•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
0 K+ b$ b& l! ?4 H! B•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
' v5 C0 ]+ O% e3 Y# C) P9 Y•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
  F: D/ h6 ^* v& s' kvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.

HOURS OF WORK:
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week

Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
