4 k" \7 v1 P) E$ }Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

- X/ }/ C1 q) O, k( H, c• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.1 ~5 X# o& C Z
• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
5 \3 X8 I v6 T- V# I. {• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.* _8 u) w5 ?2 I6 }# W% x
• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather 6 T- ^4 u5 n/ N- l

• Adhere to schedules.7 c9 _) J1 _ m0 v( k
• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

- v% L1 E: P# F' e/ ]7 X• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
4 ~# o9 u4 w# Z* }. ]• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability - h5 f* ?" t* T
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger / T2 i$ Z- _* ~3 U4 @ K

• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
* z, V+ ^* ~" S• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
' K) f' N& N3 e3 f• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
- s, A: E$ ?6 g' E" H1 Y• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) , j3 k8 B U$ h. W; u
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
3 _6 \, q- r. w• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
0 w3 e; Y& K4 X$ Ovideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).6 F: _- X2 d; e' [5 a: j3 h
• Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.

HOURS OF WORK:

1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
