Do you have a strong customer service background with well developed people-skills?  Do you enjoy driving and the challenges of dealing with the public in a diverse work environment?  If you answer yes, and you can meet the requirements below, we’re interested in you.
4 h( a7 w+ x8 l$ Y+ aEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
) L, y9 l/ f2 v. ^( q•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.- e* P0 M( L; g2 A+ ?
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.4 [$ y/ u" Q6 Q, R+ i5 p& S- N7 j
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
, p0 f  H' S( p( J" s8 o•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather ' T5 W# a( J# N4 H- ^, q
and traffic conditions. % O: ~& @" ^8 F1 U
•        Adhere to schedules.
' C  {. _: g: P•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
+ X4 _; @( E' k6 }% X+ K% W0 ^" l•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
  r: D5 j# N" g( c* e•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.* w  P, v% c( o7 ]# C
•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
3 a7 F$ w* v" }& l•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.' K0 W  m& b6 ~' S5 p
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
6 T- G8 T% a7 ^. A: X2 Rto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

- d( }- u9 T; r•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).9 b7 Q; u- |# y% g
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
! C6 r3 ^, _2 c$ z, i3 j•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
; R- h0 u" n+ t•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
) z$ e3 r/ {) i7 bshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
3 Z! Y7 e4 I1 a& E•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill 6 r  B4 z" s* q/ X! b4 h
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).. h+ y+ ~  u$ p' Q1 W
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
! L/ q$ A1 c- v$ d; ?0 S•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.
) }, ]1 L; @5 o0 f# R# h- h2 A5 `
' `4 {9 w. s" |) a* a: K. h& b' SHOURS OF WORK:
" h, T" Y8 _6 h6 Q0 ^0 KVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
% q6 w  u6 R4 \' n' q  {' I* A1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly$ r" r7 P4 W/ `- O' ^6 _9 ~$ i
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004 ; P: Z% D0 y# o- G4 E9 O7 m8 G
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly) A' r: |3 n' x9 }
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
5 T& y$ F& ]8 wThe rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.2 H/ I" F7 ]7 f7 T/ z
