The fireworks just went off and they were so loud, like a thunderclap right next to you. They are still going off as I write.

While most Beijing residents are at home watching the biggest international event happen on television, many others are gathered in public areas, mostly where there are giant screens to catch the party atmosphere.

. F3 _2 D" W2 _Others are probably standing around waiting for the end of the ceremony to watch the fireworks that will be set off around the city -- watching millions of RMB blown up in the sky in a party to welcome the world. |
