The Class 5 Road Test for New Drivers

For example, if you do not show good judgment of time and distance when turning left in front of oncoming traffic,$ @: o$ U h, K4 J

· The Examiner will introduce him/herself and provide proof of identification, when requested.

* n8 n; f7 H4 wand Driver Examination Regulation. They are monitored to ensure they provide high quality road
$ `; a9 a% C G9 [4 W# B4 ptests. They should be courteous and professional, keeping conversation at all times relevant to the1 D$ e# I3 g: U# ~! x

What do I bring for my road test?
& P$ ], ^0 ?* E% A% R
$ M2 O$ n3 E1 x" c, i· You must have your Learner’s licence. If you have a temporary licence (non-photo). }9 g' J8 u2 m) m5 F" J
then you must also provide acceptable photo ID. x( _0 w8 \/ o1 Q6 j- v
· Wear clothing that is practical for driving and comfort. It should be appropriate for the
2 s# A2 u- B2 q/ |0 x0 Z. D7 h t7 ~weather conditions (in case your vehicle breaks down and you have to wait or walk).
4 O9 l' W6 X% ^) |4 U# f· Your vehicle must meet all legal requirements (good mechanical condition, valid
% P! `+ @. B& ^/ kinsurance and registration) and have enough fuel for at least one hour of driving.

A Driver Examination Checklist will be completed by the Examiner. This document will contain the following

· operator’s licence number

The Examiner will do a vehicle check with you. You will be in the driver’s seat and the examiner will ask you to; T) _6 O& o$ E( K8 \+ x
assist in checking the signal and brake lights, horn, brakes, and steering. You will be asked to describe and
1 {. R! b1 {: Y4 i& X- O/ f- v( @demonstrate two of the instruments or controls inside the vehicle, such as the hazard lights and windshield
0 }& e. N. x9 \" i# |! B# K# pwipers. The Examiner will provide information before you move the vehicle about the route and the instructions% A+ l" Z" V) v! A3 |
that you will be given during the test.

' W2 p# u9 r, \% ^: YWhile Driving …" E0 m% o: \, R8 i8 b

· You will be given ample instruction in advance for each manoeuvre and activity.
( o) ?9 Z! t, t" e m# `$ M. b· Points will be assigned for errors. You will be allowed a maximum of 75 points to pass the road test.4 a+ K! N( g& S" q9 j% O& h
You must not do anything that is considered unlawful, dangerous, or unsafe, (for example, speeding or not5 j4 v# _% ^ O+ G6 z( v" r1 Q/ X
stopping at a stop sign).( V$ _- e% T! C( X9 |' p) M
· The Examiner will not try to trick you.
+ L/ R) b# l; k· The Examiner will not ask you to do anything illegal.
& ^! u3 b/ I, V" ~( |" Y' L· When the road test is finished, the Examiner will highlight the areas you performed well, as well as
- a" J0 J' u# l/ C2 {: \( ~the areas you need to improve upon. The points for errors will be explained at this time.

What do I do when I pass my road test?* C; C6 s* s$ f* ~0 j4 Y

The Examiner will give you a copy of the Driver Examination Checklist form. You will also be given a copy of the
" d4 i- A) f* J, C$ w, V! U3 {* o. mTest Permit. This will indicate that you have passed. Take this permit, along with your learner’s licence, to any
, {' b( P, b5 }& \7 U+ F% {Alberta Registry Agent to have your licence changed to a Class 5 Probationary Licence. There will be a fee for this F* |5 }% t* a& q
service.1 T/ t4 Y% v8 q" R; v7 L+ U

not passed. Keep the form and bring it to your next road test. You may not take another road test on the same day.
