The Class 5 Road Test for New Drivers
What activities will I do during my road test?

· school and/or playground zone times and speed limits

· how to hill park (up or down)

! A8 C9 r* P3 `The road test will run the full time unless the Examiner feels that your safety, or the safety of others, is at risk.
) ]' k2 F- V/ XFor example, if you do not show good judgment of time and distance when turning left in front of oncoming traffic,

· The Examiner will introduce him/herself and provide proof of identification, when requested.
$ P3 I$ a" z1 H· All Driver Examiners are licensed by Alberta Infrastructure and Transportation under the Driver Training; f% o! @7 I( _8 I# |* x
and Driver Examination Regulation. They are monitored to ensure they provide high quality road3 f4 t5 {$ x; |& }" G
tests. They should be courteous and professional, keeping conversation at all times relevant to the

What do I bring for my road test?0 F: s$ T4 D7 a. B
6 U7 \; u, Q# t( J) ~· You must have your Learner’s licence. If you have a temporary licence (non-photo)$ {3 m6 _, \8 q9 c0 R
then you must also provide acceptable photo ID.
1 y' ]& U4 P5 i: Z8 k, \· Wear clothing that is practical for driving and comfort. It should be appropriate for the
9 G) e4 ^( e1 J1 Dweather conditions (in case your vehicle breaks down and you have to wait or walk).1 P& D2 ]- C' g
· Your vehicle must meet all legal requirements (good mechanical condition, valid7 \ z3 J; V- |
insurance and registration) and have enough fuel for at least one hour of driving.* g3 B, F s( t
· Payment for the test must be made directly to the Examiner or Registry office.

; l+ z5 l( i0 n0 zassist in checking the signal and brake lights, horn, brakes, and steering. You will be asked to describe and& F0 F; M& y, }
demonstrate two of the instruments or controls inside the vehicle, such as the hazard lights and windshield. ]! K ^- B+ T) g
wipers. The Examiner will provide information before you move the vehicle about the route and the instructions0 a9 z8 T S/ k! q' R
that you will be given during the test.% N( S2 _& Y3 s) W; h& V- R
h* ^5 y" r. J5 ~+ p6 PWhile Driving …7 V1 r: ]+ X" Q0 S3 }

· You will be given ample instruction in advance for each manoeuvre and activity.

You must not do anything that is considered unlawful, dangerous, or unsafe, (for example, speeding or not) P; q4 d6 }; Q

· The Examiner will not try to trick you.

· When the road test is finished, the Examiner will highlight the areas you performed well, as well as

' J& W$ U! z5 D+ aThe Examiner will give you a copy of the Driver Examination Checklist form. You will also be given a copy of the& D# i5 k( S9 A' y! K: y& u1 _
Test Permit. This will indicate that you have passed. Take this permit, along with your learner’s licence, to any
6 X% T! q. a% }4 T' K: |Alberta Registry Agent to have your licence changed to a Class 5 Probationary Licence. There will be a fee for this
