不是政府强加个common law，而是你现在的状态就是这个称呼。。。。如果你男友有另外一个地址，那你就可以填单身，不管他晚上住在哪里。。。。。

要填common law的。我们刚到加拿大那年还没结婚，但住在一起。报税的时候也不懂，就按single报的，当时都是学生，有个好像叫GST rebate还是什么的。过了几年以后，收到CRA的信说我们当时算commen law，需要退钱回去。

You can claim yourself "Single". But when you apply for government benefits, including filing tax return, government officials will consider your marital status in granting benefits. Your marital status also affect the amount.
In your social life, and family relationship, you can claim yourself "single" or " live with a friend". Canada is a free country. nobody will say anything about your relation.
