differential fee was increased by almost 20% last year. Add to this,

4 C2 ^+ y& A( {% [and most of the newly admitted students who applied for housing were
# L2 Y7 Y5 r, X& U Masked to look for a residence on open market.3 |6 e( ~ d; x6 ] y* A

While the average cost of living for a typical graduate student has , V% Z+ T: C+ I
increased by something more than 70% percent we are getting paid 5 I% C, t$ y9 b: B' |3 Q
exactly for the same amount of money that we were offered in our
$ f" _, j- D! ^, I8 l8 nadmission letter (18000 CAD + 1500 CAD for international students
& u6 {# `# Z9 ~=19500CAD. What I get is something around 1000CAD/month!!! after
( V% t; Y2 z5 |/ i# `tuition fee and taxes). To make the argument easy to understand just
9 m. q; f% s# S4 o. |; j% E% c7 Simagine that a new student gets the same amount of money that I am
7 e5 l1 K, r) V! R) rgetting now and I was getting 3 years ago but he or she (like all of ' O) u: @4 S! U. ]% `2 J
us) has to pay twice as much as I was paying for housing when I was ; M, f9 a" ~: [3 H
admitted and has to incur at least 70% more in average living costs.6 Y, a/ f9 j; a! i1 T) u+ d# p5 A

Also have in mind that Alberta is a rich province and University of $ l# [2 z' }: z2 y' L2 @
Alberta has a remarkable record in absorbing various money and grants # l" _# ~6 m8 z% T0 [: B! m7 d0 _
from different governmental and non governmental sources and graduate
$ V8 r: Y4 |& k3 c, U2 ?; hstudents are the main pillars of research work at the university.

) ~, S+ v3 v, D( @My objective in bringing all abovementioned points in your attention
: }& b( P0 n' T! n- _is to question the adequacy of financial aid for graduate and
( ^- p! k% A, R# B+ R& z9 @* sespecially international students. Isn抰 it time for the GSA to take t6 p; ]0 O% k4 p8 m: F/ g/ a
; h" y M/ F' k4 J$ [initiative in raising the issue of increasing financial aid for
0 j4 \! i% s* t2 z6 xgraduate students so that the can afford this increase in costs?! d' x* {% @6 q
