CALGARY — Screams filled the air after a 17-year-old teen was killed after being struck in the head with a pickaxe at a house party.

( P9 C. S( z% ^: h0 ANeighbours said about 100 teens were at a house in southeast Calgary when the attack happened in a detached garage about 11:50 p.m. Saturday. _4 Q; z* \( A4 b0 C3 G% z# T

Lisa Poole, who lives two doors down from where the teen died, rushed outside when she heard a lot of screaming. 7 i. d$ n) d; i" G; f

Jeff said two high school-aged girls live at the house with their mother. He said large parties are common at the residence. 9 L# V: c3 G! S

Friends identified the dead teen as Matt McKay, 17. % G5 d" N4 e1 F6 Z
; y" q/ h4 M6 kChris Briggs, who grew up in the same neighbourhood and was friends with McKay, described him as nice guy and avid athlete. * P4 y% n+ c$ A" G) q4 L: p

“He was a pretty good guy,” he said. “He played hockey with my friends, he was huge into hockey.” . H. `6 p' g; x) a6 I- V
. | u' I/ J9 XStaff Sgt. Kevin Forsen said police are currently interviewing more than 40 witnesses to the attack.
