S! y; ~4 jReporting to the Head of the System Support Team, you will be responsible for the maintenance and operations of the real-time data collections systems to support flood forecasting and dam operations in Alberta. The systems gather meteorological and river level data from over 450 automatic stations and 5 major external data systems automatically every hour. ; e8 }2 T: h6 K* K: x7 W+ f& V* q+ S
* a. |) i$ Y3 L: |" TIn-depth knowledge of theoretical and applied database administration techniques and principles is essential as you will perform a variety of senior level database administrative functions to ensure data integrity, security and accessibility. You will continually look for opportunities to modernize the systems and improve operations by investigating new software and hardware products. You may also lead and implement development and enhancement projects associated with real-time and historical data acquisition. Your ability to identify, analyze and derive solutions for problems will be critical to your success. There is considerable opportunity to demonstrate creativity in the creation and maintenance of the systems. ) p8 f ]' ^* B! O# [

6 T4 i8 b( Z# g- ^+ D# T VQualifications: University graduation in computer science plus several years of related experience with various technologies namely INGRES, Citrix, Windows NT, UNIX/LINUX, C++, ORACLE and Visual Basic is required. Equivalencies may be considered.
9 ]1 `% G5 x% G0 c0 BNote: Stand-by mode after regular office hours is expected due to the system being considered a "mission critical system" with guaranteed support 24x7 year round for water management and flood control. This is a one-year temporary position expiring on or before January 31, 2006. Final candidates for this position will be asked to undergo a security screening.
