What activities will I do during my road test?

7 j( y$ \, C) ^4 U1 E% iThe road test is about 25 to 30 minutes long, including instructions and feedback.- ^9 g, J# m d3 Z
You are required to know and demonstrate:

· how to parallel park

The road test will run the full time unless the Examiner feels that your safety, or the safety of others, is at risk.

· The Examiner will introduce him/herself and provide proof of identification, when requested.
' ^0 ]9 h, h8 k2 O· All Driver Examiners are licensed by Alberta Infrastructure and Transportation under the Driver Training, L) S: H" O5 A! `6 I7 M% N; \
and Driver Examination Regulation. They are monitored to ensure they provide high quality road! ^) t1 J: Y" ]- }. }- K4 I
tests. They should be courteous and professional, keeping conversation at all times relevant to the

What do I bring for my road test?

· You must have your Learner’s licence. If you have a temporary licence (non-photo)8 X! r8 g9 }% c* u
then you must also provide acceptable photo ID.
* n' Y3 Q; l4 y% m" b0 D. O {5 [· Wear clothing that is practical for driving and comfort. It should be appropriate for the/ U! h; t. [2 ` |( E# \& {
weather conditions (in case your vehicle breaks down and you have to wait or walk).
2 R0 T/ D1 ]% Y+ H0 |· Your vehicle must meet all legal requirements (good mechanical condition, valid8 |4 j- q# g3 l' b9 V( ^+ ^% z2 E! d; o) r
insurance and registration) and have enough fuel for at least one hour of driving.
# W) @, P" y2 q9 q· Payment for the test must be made directly to the Examiner or Registry office.

* o+ ]- Y( }3 I! [ n) massist in checking the signal and brake lights, horn, brakes, and steering. You will be asked to describe and
! |0 a- @( C" s `1 i7 sdemonstrate two of the instruments or controls inside the vehicle, such as the hazard lights and windshield9 `; f8 A2 j0 [4 A) ~% G$ O
wipers. The Examiner will provide information before you move the vehicle about the route and the instructions
. V/ J9 \& x- qthat you will be given during the test.

While Driving …

· You will be given ample instruction in advance for each manoeuvre and activity.1 {5 K+ l2 |- |3 i" m& R
· Points will be assigned for errors. You will be allowed a maximum of 75 points to pass the road test.
5 y9 s5 d- a; Q- @You must not do anything that is considered unlawful, dangerous, or unsafe, (for example, speeding or not
6 D* N0 s9 [8 t( n3 nstopping at a stop sign).
' \" k9 i+ C, k/ }! W0 B' r· The Examiner will not try to trick you.
2 K4 \$ o# v& O/ F$ s8 r# [. A· The Examiner will not ask you to do anything illegal.
; ]* r# x# u, H3 H/ P6 ~· When the road test is finished, the Examiner will highlight the areas you performed well, as well as9 \1 k% C; `& b$ v- \/ f, V
the areas you need to improve upon. The points for errors will be explained at this time.

What do I do when I pass my road test?0 E' n# ]. A, u# `9 R
) E: G; r5 G/ zThe Examiner will give you a copy of the Driver Examination Checklist form. You will also be given a copy of the# c: R! n5 M! |# T g
Test Permit. This will indicate that you have passed. Take this permit, along with your learner’s licence, to any$ e2 k: W; s2 K( e) b8 f
Alberta Registry Agent to have your licence changed to a Class 5 Probationary Licence. There will be a fee for this% c6 o6 q6 e' c

What do I do if I do not pass my road test?

The Examiner will give you a copy of the Driver Examination Checklist form. This form will indicate that you have* S7 z; A' {4 J
not passed. Keep the form and bring it to your next road test. You may not take another road test on the same day.) J4 m# M# R. Q$ O2 Q
