; V: J) t1 C" }' G% S8 ^bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based" ~# v1 o: G( [" C+ M$ Y
employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day4 B) L( I6 D/ H5 g$ \6 Y1 s
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
4 ]: _: [5 f$ ?* Q0 Ustands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.( B2 J( k" `: g* o/ T, q
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
& B6 l/ f* d" `" e0 Amission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
2 V; L$ L. {7 z: b% t6 M4 oconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
6 N8 h, R4 Y: D+ OVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
8 L* N) h# y% j' e; f' [) j3 rnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve$ L% x$ r2 n9 u) y4 @$ w a
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
" W' q! ~4 g8 S% O! Mparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
3 K9 L6 Q8 N0 P7 ?; ^2 Fdevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and, j# e2 c% o* U' ^
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
( ?( t& }; U4 P, |# Q7 a4 |wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a% p( \: z; \6 n2 d
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
5 W( }2 H) l4 z2 R0 Q) pThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
0 I, h$ R8 x- [YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta. a$ @( a5 c- p5 C( S+ [. [' P& G
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of, o! o" I* P, v2 i r! s

# Q# W1 z; N0 \Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)
* P a, e% L7 f• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the l4 z2 I5 [7 t- p% m
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are8 {0 ^3 w) O! O" G, T
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
# C+ }- Y4 ^' x6 \' k, g, [• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as( |4 N T& o5 G1 b
being realistic to each youth participant" w0 s1 o, j; }: L. v! G8 V! H- u
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
( r/ Q4 Y9 f* Jyouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to8 |$ ~& d' A2 o( j, O! ?
each participant
# M! d6 c: z/ m/ A' R• Assist youth with employment development including the development of3 B2 b0 [( H5 M7 n
cover letters and resumes etc.
+ ^, x [% E& C( y' s0 U• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
: f8 E) [# j r% r0 e" Z; b4 ]( K- cexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the$ D# e' i$ _+ M4 \3 Z
placements
7 K Y {' I% B, _- M• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
2 W2 q# d" ^0 ~9 L5 ^+ N0 ithe process, and supporting the youth where needed5 J, ?: Q& X6 J" ]
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach2 X6 Y6 Y* ^$ f# j
is being fulfilled for each youth* s3 e0 Y ^* q- t
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
8 C! v* s% d* ~related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project8 I5 c4 w; y. u7 m- h
• Other tasks as they arise within the position

# T/ K V6 ~: k K1 F Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted t6 U1 ^& _; t5 c" \
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.

 Strong leadership and active listening skills
