The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
# }7 p! f7 p  Q9 }. Nemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
$ V# K/ L# o  I+ l; `program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
4 g4 X; n' p2 s" Q( X/ O' G: Wmission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
, ?- J: ^; c( v% TVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
* N* ?: x2 y- \' o1 o6 n3 pnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
0 e& k! V0 _$ ^; Y! e/ fwellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
1 y, F$ E& {% v6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
8 n3 d1 L6 q2 A2 H0 @% r9 S0 zYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of
extension dependant of funding and performance. Resumes will be

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)
, f5 m  D9 G& P, c' S9 t: C2 K• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
) y' Q- N+ O4 F* owilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
being realistic to each youth participant
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
each participant
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
cover letters and resumes etc.
" q% x' w1 T( G& H( P7 n- y• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
( }; r, ~- L. r0 z# `3 {2 ^$ uexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
placements
  G* N! }# y5 N  g0 J• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
7 `0 \3 ^% ^' Sthe process, and supporting the youth where needed
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
is being fulfilled for each youth
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project
• Other tasks as they arise within the position
Experience Required: Employment Developer
 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
3 \+ J! q' b8 W" U; y- l% r. X A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
 Enthusiastic and energetic innovator who is process-oriented and committed
to success.
) B3 _0 }2 Q9 B Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
 Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, organizational and
) a3 N( o( P/ @/ N" R- H1 gtime management.
& K; e; v7 s/ l$ @. V5 y& Y8 G Strong connections with industry, or the ability to make those connections
