The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
  }; J# V5 [  h/ H2 y7 abring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
2 \% t; ?5 Z2 A9 V1 r# ostands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
- }: U7 ~( J, @$ B1 hconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
8 T, T* c- e, `VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
% G: o# V8 H; p! c2 Lyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
& m! i0 |4 E6 l% v5 adevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
* F! R& v: O' G9 uexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
% p9 V; |8 Q9 _  e& QThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
. _1 f6 d" q+ B  ?  B" m5 GYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of
extension dependant of funding and performance. Resumes will be

• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
/ ~. l" h% J# I( O8 K; A8 Jbeing realistic to each youth participant
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
each participant
7 C# V0 R- c# }• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
cover letters and resumes etc.
+ O, Q7 E: [3 ?* y4 F* d/ G$ c/ s• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
# N$ a* o! L& r3 T9 Bexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
placements
) T2 S9 J" D2 N: C( A2 S7 y$ J• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
# _  j4 Z) t: e' F" [the process, and supporting the youth where needed
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
is being fulfilled for each youth
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

Experience Required: Employment Developer
- o% y8 A! e4 E5 l Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.

 Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, organizational and
time management.
 Strong connections with industry, or the ability to make those connections

 Experience working with youth at risk, and able to assess the needs of youth
at risk as it pertains to employment
 Skilled in software applications, computers and other office equipment
 Strong leadership and active listening skills
