The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

3 Q# P+ q' `& p3 ]7 q/ [Responsibilities include:
9 G, I  U7 A: L; |: h- X
1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
& _+ G1 T# E+ G9 I5 M. B• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
9 g. M; r/ c) ~+ T' r) s8 S• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
9 F) c5 N; S6 n+ f% F4 L( @• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
0 k  N. ]2 |6 o: }• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

3. Tracking System
• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s

  I! g, C8 Q  ECandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

& y% {# P$ z6 Q; uThis is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
