The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

7 y, n" M' S' _- N! l1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
' T3 ?: i7 ?0 f# O( r) g1 H0 [• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
% J \& x# |2 M8 P• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
]9 o% B9 E# P7 _! E* K# ]6 i• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
3 L/ t* Q- a- q/ `! x• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
6 j# L6 r; k- V0 W• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.8 n+ H8 _; j4 M: p* G; A
1 o. ?4 [, f1 }( G/ j0 \2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s), ~- Q, K% w& f- H8 }
• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.! [/ O6 S; c! H3 J& _

• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s " a) C7 J3 e/ P+ t& Y" g

Candidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

This is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
