As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months.  The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience. & ?' G9 y% @0 B! o- }+ }+ A8 y; U

; |+ r. n, f( P2 {$ NReporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records.  This may include:
! U1 ?9 N" L1 n+ E4 a$ s4 E•        Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment
7 }) a. l4 C  @$ b! b2 ]. m7 |•        Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements
7 x* s4 A9 d# W8 @4 q+ h6 y•        Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module: U$ @1 n5 I* j! ]
•        Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's
7 |) `: n; K( j6 i& L( K7 Z, \- E•        Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers ( w8 M! S1 g# f* i
Job Requirements:  $ |8 O( T( @0 k& [
•        University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline& [$ O5 B- [2 K0 D6 p! [6 G
•        Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset
6 i6 N& X, `$ O1 f4 e3 \- V•        Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience
% `! y( P8 r# }, s9 B6 c•        A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems
6 y# W) v# l/ `•        Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets0 ~, S: }* A! i% J' k; n0 A
•        Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies
- \. t* f8 w  h) G! w8 D4 _•        A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST
0 v+ Z3 H3 x$ g1 y3 J: g8 V8 t•        Excellent verbal and written communication skills- F( ^& Q& ?, \3 y
Hours of Work:  33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday.

Salary:  $27.00 hourly- p7 y5 }% y% `; {
