As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months. The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience.

0 @" B9 M4 l6 e+ s8 [Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records. This may include:
1 x+ K3 _. _. V0 K/ ]7 Y' y8 T• Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment) ]8 F; \' @' F+ O8 m
• Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements
- O' P# o) T, q9 u3 R• Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module
. x; Q& B6 N: C: i6 Q' ]• Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's

Job Requirements: ( l' } P! u; f3 ^# G5 E! H' B
• University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline8 p: M# H: O6 v& }
• Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset
, s0 z9 d/ p: s• Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience( p! O. r% y2 ]( c& p* N
• A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems5 _4 C6 V8 V) ]
• Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets! S7 Y8 w5 b; U; R3 K
• Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies* V) G; O% h8 r- w0 _6 g7 o- d
• A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST6 H# v. j, ]# t% m$ Z7 E
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills0 [$ k# ?1 u( `
Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday.
