Duties

, @7 u# w0 ]9 n( D' h6 z `3 d * Provides routine technical and administrative support for sample preparations and mineral separation for isotopic analysis& i2 P, e' Y0 I$ J% y& H+ B
* Conducts mineral separation, sample imaging, grant mount preparation, sample weighing and iron exchange chromatography, s1 f: h& y0 K0 B# g& L
* Provides training to graduate students, visiting scientists on preparation techniques
# V" Q2 l1 R! t0 j- A; B4 R$ d# \ * Compiles analytical data using standard office software such as Excel, Word and Corel for use by the PI or client
( z" o8 n* Z/ B! s G/ B( A+ f * Performs routine maintenance on equipment and lab husbandry: K* f: K( {; m) j8 X( w
* Orders supplies, maintains lab records, maintain WHMIS records and compliance labeling, maintains lab inventory and safe disposal of chemicals- `2 a. x, ?0 F5 M9 z6 I8 |
* Provides safety training to students, staff and visitors using the lab9 Z1 J" U6 T( v0 K3 ?+ A; g" m. o
* Provides administrative support by maintaining records, (usage and expenses) and prepares invoices
1 z1 N6 h& S+ H+ M/ ] * Assists with laser ablation analyses on the multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICPMS), L/ R4 ~7 j4 a) l P

Qualifications/ t' m& _0 e6 g9 S
( _. e) V0 f! u8 G! u2 V; y- } * Post Secondary diploma in laboratory technology, Chemistry or Earth Sciences; BSc in Geology or Chemistry preferred
6 v& H- a r0 ?0 X * 1-2 years experience working in a research environment (analytical chemistry lab or geochemical lab)
9 u% p( b+ n3 L$ T * Computer proficiency using MS Office applications and Corel" g% v( z p: _' L4 |! ]0 M
* A thorough knowledge of lab safety protocols and WHMIS procedures: m+ z& j5 b: {
* Experience conducting routine maintenance on standard rock sample preparation equipment3 u2 t( s' k# S% H) {! n$ K
