Duties

* Provides routine technical and administrative support for sample preparations and mineral separation for isotopic analysis
0 d: Z$ U1 o" p * Conducts mineral separation, sample imaging, grant mount preparation, sample weighing and iron exchange chromatography3 [2 M. S+ z3 Z
* Provides training to graduate students, visiting scientists on preparation techniques
9 ~7 A: P1 v1 h# h * Compiles analytical data using standard office software such as Excel, Word and Corel for use by the PI or client+ S& v& e ] d, |3 R8 s7 ~5 `
* Performs routine maintenance on equipment and lab husbandry
# X7 p/ T6 D$ ?% {1 U1 j" M * Orders supplies, maintains lab records, maintain WHMIS records and compliance labeling, maintains lab inventory and safe disposal of chemicals2 w$ ]5 E. u4 x" v7 h
* Provides safety training to students, staff and visitors using the lab5 O* Q1 \$ L! E2 x) V7 r
* Provides administrative support by maintaining records, (usage and expenses) and prepares invoices+ j0 p0 j. S; {0 N# G* i
* Assists with laser ablation analyses on the multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICPMS)

5 ~2 F0 i F( {' T# |$ d& F7 L& Z' c7 r; S
* Post Secondary diploma in laboratory technology, Chemistry or Earth Sciences; BSc in Geology or Chemistry preferred
2 [6 Q! x! G% P$ [' Y8 B * 1-2 years experience working in a research environment (analytical chemistry lab or geochemical lab)
2 p7 B U* a( ^ * Computer proficiency using MS Office applications and Corel
) m X8 e* [/ s' ]6 }& X9 { * A thorough knowledge of lab safety protocols and WHMIS procedures( ]; C, b5 R5 u A' u0 u' h
* Experience conducting routine maintenance on standard rock sample preparation equipment
