Duties

- K1 s, J: r- R4 z; w% v& y    * Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region
. l' R% s" ]4 @9 [2 j6 B/ d    * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group
    * Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators
    * Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations
+ r  \' h5 D; U  H    * Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director
    * Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses
    * Advocates to meet the health, social and safety needs of LGBTTQ and questioning youth
$ J0 v  K, y" I( g1 x, _4 S  e, L7 }    * Researches and develops a LGBTTQ youth mentoring program
$ F  Y1 U9 U. M& A1 J% I4 P5 X    * Develops, implements and monitors a LGBTTQ youth risk and needs assessment
" ]9 v5 l2 }" @0 D5 o    * Develops benchmarks to assist in the evaluation of YUY programming and outreach supports
    * Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs
    * Participates in the development of leadership training and educational programming at Camp fYrefly
' u: Y/ V& W4 G* O( H: z2 y/ B    * Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities

Qualifications

! y& W' i. B( U    * Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline
: ^! c; G# ^2 |1 ~& h    * Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth
9 S: ]% X2 K  o    * Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies
0 ?: [! Y- p6 r( V9 e    * Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs
% R# Q1 N9 y  e) ]' P    * Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community
) M. e, ~7 @1 N) p    * Fundraising skills an asset
6 E6 n+ N& A) ]! Z0 p& a8 [5 _    * Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills
* _$ ~" g$ S, q, R$ L/ E5 X    * Outstanding group facilitation, training, and counselling skills
# D0 Q( ~# \# }. h2 V    * Proven leadership, and strong team, and relationship building skills
% j, r9 l5 }$ {    * Excellent communication (oral, written, and web-based), organizational and interpersonal skills
    * Understanding of other languages and experiences working within Aboriginal and ethnocultural communities an asset
