Description: The Neighbourhood & Community Development Branch is seeking a Social Worker for the Assessment & Short-term Counseling Team (A.S.T.C.). The A.S.T.C. Team is made up of 14 Social Workers & is centrally located at Circle SQ. The team responds to a variety of issues including relationships, worries over children/teens, domestic violence, financial stresses & housing concerns. + h$ Y. K _2 d& B, ?
) D* L$ I4 V& t6 o) |* [1 lKey Tasks - The successful candidate will report to the Director of Targeted Community Services and will: respond to citizen calls at a centralized phone in service; provide in person assessment/counseling to help clients identify strengths, family supports, and available community resources; take a holistic, creative approach to arriving at solutions.7 c3 Z+ H1 k6 i i' \

In addition: collaborate with team members to develop/implement models of best practice in Social Work; facilitate drop-in/registered attendance groups for women and/or men who have experienced domestic violence to help them toward developing healthy relationships, personal dev., and making positive life changes; participate in the City's disaster social services response team; other related duties. h8 U7 T4 y; v B! c% g

Job Requirements: a Bachelor's degree in Social Work. A Master's Degree in Social Work is preferred; a minimum of (3) years professional experience in the provision of social services involving individual/group programs, family counseling & organizational and/or community work., C1 k8 m. O* w2 z
9 G' ^5 A1 g. m' kIn addition: RSW designation; demonstrated skills/creativity in the above functions, including strong skills in teamwork, assessment & short term counseling, community/organizational networking, group work/project initiation; sound knowledge of family violence; develop & sustain positive professional relationships with clients, colleagues, management/community agencies; maintain accurate records and professional case notes.$ y2 P- a1 m! j- G9 H. |9 a6 k

XPLUS: excellent communication, negotiation, and collaboration skills; sound knowledge/experience in assessment, the use of short-term intervention approaches & preventative services; ability to listen non-judgmentally and comprehend with empathy/understanding; ability to think creatively and be flexible; experience in providing services to men affected by family violence is an asset. |
