This union is different than IBEW 424 or 353 where the union directly hire electricians. But IBEW 254 is an union which only negotiates with the collect agreement with employer, but the employer hire electricians. It is not lineman work in Alberta. Most of this kind of job is done by electrican for <=25 kV and power system electrican for >= 25kV. Cable splicing and terminating is a small part of work in the high voltage contruction in Alberta. You need to know how to do other job besides this. Personally, I do not think it needs a lot of skills and knowledge for this job. Normally, the manufacture, like 3M, will provide the training. 8 p1 ^+ F O. T) v* w) u' o
