FORT MCMURRAY, Alta. - Suncor Energy Inc. (TSX:SU) and two of its contractors are headed to court next month after being charged with dumping partially-treated sewage from two work camps into a northern Alberta river.

# O" c. E" A$ {9 b6 G o' KThe contractors charged are the Compass Group of Canada, which ran the camps, and Rodney McCabe, whose now-defunct company operated the two wastewater plants.

; m+ P+ a% {0 q8 z1 nThe charges laid last year under Alberta's Environmental Protection Act include failing to properly treat wastewater and providing false or misleading information to the environment ministry.) n" m+ d9 {% z1 w5 c2 o

The nearest downstream community is Fort MacKay, but a spokesman for the aboriginal settlement said the 600 residents take their water from another river that's not connected to the Athabasca. |
