FORT MCMURRAY, Alta. - Suncor Energy Inc. (TSX:SU) and two of its contractors are headed to court next month after being charged with dumping partially-treated sewage from two work camps into a northern Alberta river.

. [' X2 O/ Q8 {; p2 a+ F( n2 sThe contractors charged are the Compass Group of Canada, which ran the camps, and Rodney McCabe, whose now-defunct company operated the two wastewater plants.

2 y2 n" H6 s& G3 Q6 UThe charges laid last year under Alberta's Environmental Protection Act include failing to properly treat wastewater and providing false or misleading information to the environment ministry. V3 u4 r! x7 O- U( e1 U
% y1 _0 e2 @; ^7 c7 ~6 Y6 iEnvironment Minister Rob Renner says the charges were laid after a routine audit found problems with the sewage discharge into the Athabasca River.. L$ e5 C# C1 W
B+ _0 }! ?9 A8 Y8 L, T. RMcCabe and Compass are refusing comment, but a Suncor spokesman says the sewage likely had very little impact on the water quality in the river.
