Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
6 A }3 s4 T/ \& P7 bMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule6 O6 a) ^- b% l1 ]# J# C6 ?
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about2 P6 S4 }6 v: F$ B; A" D5 z* i
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
; E1 j# s: q8 bmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;
2 e( U5 V8 R, E: b+ e+ ^2 hvermin-composting and residential recycling.
7 R& c' e/ l% r6 F% _
" y6 U1 T, o' F+ c' `1 b- S* ~! n# T7 DThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
k6 i* L& U' o( g4 u1 N) `to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates- w# y3 U0 |9 g9 Q. D" K/ K& C
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
, S" v$ P/ C. m3 S1 e& s0 E8 c" dreduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
( z, q5 U( d- ], x+ h6 xresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the4 g; {+ ^+ [' N* p+ R
importance of composting and recycling.

% A: `$ I6 Z, K9 Q7 a% ~Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the; D y+ `& N$ d t% ~' ~
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;/ q3 _5 g6 \3 r# ~, P/ s3 I2 A2 i
public education display booths; assisting with programs and$ O w+ p& f6 I0 d7 \; A
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
# Q2 {3 @$ T% C( rvarious demonstration gardens and general public and school
$ v0 n- i* _6 X( V, R& `presentations.7 c& g; O3 G6 U
! c$ g5 v: t7 { t: M8 J1 N! M
There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
5 y+ N" j" k) G& uvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
9 c9 E. \1 C6 O) mmost. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your3 |" k$ O$ V# E
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master6 x( [" \& N; j5 u! K4 X: {

Course Dates: April 14 - May 2nd, 2009 -Tuesday and Thursday evenings
