Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!0 {$ `- I5 k# t( S7 i/ E

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
5 T2 c. b r; c4 B* |/ XMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
I+ i8 a/ F: k4 t/ k, g- f(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
5 k. f3 F* o$ |7 k) ~5 L8 Z. @environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
, ]' x/ e7 @% N6 ^management; home composting; household hazardous waste;: I( b5 T5 G! A; y9 S. A. J
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
% ?1 R* J3 }+ U; B2 Y4 c" \3 J) `. K$ S7 E m. ?
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips6 C6 H$ k6 R$ s
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates( i4 a% \4 b! _6 R- O) ^
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:& l% K1 U: r7 H. z7 y2 A) I4 B
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important+ Q0 h' ?5 i$ s8 J
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
+ h+ q4 U9 q/ ?9 r' i( aimportance of composting and recycling.1 l6 o2 m4 l$ U/ d* ^) {
' }/ w+ ]/ k+ x5 {! pExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
; g: K+ j5 j8 x# _% C: DReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
' k, `2 I# C* f, C+ {7 @public education display booths; assisting with programs and, t+ I0 ?7 m7 O( C; }0 M4 L O( r
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
! C$ f1 G7 |6 W5 o5 lvarious demonstration gardens and general public and school
$ U3 y4 c) W$ n6 rpresentations.

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
) O1 e* W. O6 `) P- \0 @volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the

knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master
