Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

# {, g) }# k; |; S' UDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
/ S4 p* k# [! i* z2 u& y mMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
0 k% d f8 n' ?9 ^/ I3 B* f1 A(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
9 j' C \3 ?9 F. Xenvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste1 g Y& }" E5 T' m' {9 }6 P
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;
3 E; x7 e4 b. U( Ivermin-composting and residential recycling.
" S6 n/ C; X" ~0 j3 N& b
! w/ H0 `7 X$ N" Z+ d$ {7 PThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips O; Z" B4 R) s9 S
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
$ D, u1 s; f" C% i$ k: u; b9 kcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
) u& o; k4 T% k& b. Areduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
9 g+ h# z; x6 g( ]$ ~! C# O" Zresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
: s2 u# m' {* i0 fimportance of composting and recycling.

- s2 A( U, J1 T5 aExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the2 D! R3 y# u1 Y' M5 C" k$ ^: u/ Q
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;, [+ V$ ^2 U( F( E) L/ i2 J8 E* P
public education display booths; assisting with programs and8 \- [: q3 f, B" Z8 Z3 g1 ~# ^
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at- y7 l( r8 Z1 {4 N( t' A9 g, H/ |
various demonstration gardens and general public and school$ I8 I# E, w2 Y5 \' x" L2 D$ m( ^( H4 D: ^

+ C# @& w n+ n! O- ^" F& w! aThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and- n* L+ h: Z! ^ z- J* u z
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
K+ c. d4 M( hmost. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your
