Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the9 ` P) s% s1 S. t( e y
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule! `9 n, _5 [/ ~
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about' p( Y" R* x. D4 c9 [
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste& H& n4 J& }: A) y i$ t5 c
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;
6 Z. {1 \# _3 i9 Q5 Avermin-composting and residential recycling." Z4 V$ }" [6 R1 B' Z. n2 h
: v1 n; a" G, p( _, z6 A9 j/ p3 @This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips0 @9 ^2 e/ A* g0 Q1 C Q, T" r) b
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates' d* }8 o) C# N4 ?& Q& W7 X
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
% x8 ?1 o2 k. M4 Lreduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important. y8 n. E$ T; x3 y3 z
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
v0 k( o+ |! O7 P+ _importance of composting and recycling.4 X0 O& M0 V8 E( x4 @1 O
u' f6 |& ]; `" `/ ]0 Q: t3 }; G
Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the0 Q# [6 A( U- A c8 m: u
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
* w3 j" I( n; [0 a1 }7 tpublic education display booths; assisting with programs and& R) K6 n3 V9 t$ A+ A2 i
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at( R4 r. s& v! E' Q2 t
various demonstration gardens and general public and school
4 e" A4 Y5 [ q( o$ hpresentations.
! A: |, p( M% P# m9 H$ _4 {. ]2 c0 m9 t+ q
There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
$ f# s+ |- v% r, u z! d# L3 Lvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the- q s4 k4 [5 {$ q
most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your
( O. `5 Q( B2 y: T3 o, Uknowledge with others, then apply to become a Master+ Y% @7 b7 L* D3 n, X# |) V6 a
