Hello, everyone,
* F( n8 \% H F# a# oI am speaking on behalf of the Chinese student association.
) U- k4 p3 m, u% T! J0 X
G+ v' q4 D; zyou can see that, I don’t have any manuscript with me, not like our president. It doesn’t mean that I am a better speaker than our president. It is because that what I want to say is more than one single page. I will ask 3 questions and from the answers of these three questions, you can see what I am getting at. 7 [; I; v# G* {; C

First question. “Do you know who is the most famous Canadian person being known to the people of China?” Unfortunately, the answer is not Prime Minister Harper. No.
7 R* q; _, c1 N( z, UThen who is that person? It is Doctor Norman Bethune.
& p- T4 h, S4 W$ E3 xDoctor Bethune was a Canadian physician and he went to china during the wartime in the 1930s. Through his selfless sacrifices and tireless efforts, he had saved the lives of many Chinese soldiers. The story about Doctor Bethune is written in the Chinese textbooks, and so he is known to every Chinese high school student.

; B! E1 v% _+ L* n! w3 }* J( jWhat he did means friendship for Chinese people, and so Chinese people remember him. Many hospitals and schools are named after him. This is the first point I want to make: friendship.

# T( g" ~1 q& U7 |$ B8 \0 eSecondly, it is a question for myself. How do I feel about UA and Edmonton? I came here two years ago. The first impression I had, was, it is very cold here. Cold winter like this is not common in China. My second impression is, during my first days in UA, when I talked with a Canadian person, he or she always said the same thing to me which embarrassed me terribly. He or she said: Pardon me? After several pardons, I got discouraged, especially after talking with a beautiful Canadian girl. That’s really sucks.
8 N9 E" ]8 W) PThere are many other impressions. : @ n/ |( j9 V3 B. ^1 @

But among all of my feelings, one feeling stands out the most. The feeling is a love. I love this University, I love Edmonton, because I study here, I meet my favourite supervisor here, I have increased my knowledge here, I published my papers here, I make new friends here, I have broadened my horizon here, I learn another culture here, and most importantly the golden time of my life is spent here. So, in spite of the minus twenty degree outside, I love Edmonton and I love University of Alberta. This is the second point that I want to make: love.

; e- G( N+ `' {4 o+ k, a# ~' iThe last question is what will we do after our graduation? We may go back to China after graduation. We will tell people of China about UA, about Edmonton, about Canada and then more people may want to come to UA and come to Canada. Then between our two countries, we will have a better understanding, a closer relationship and have a better spirit of cooperation in the future. I think we are bridges. We are bridges between China and Canada, between UA and Chinese universities. Bridges, this is the third point that I want to make.% S1 e$ {# W' a" v5 Q% x& _( ]/ c

Now I have asked 3 questions and the answers are: friendship, love, and bridges. And I believe the meaning of these three words is definitely need more than one page. Even one book cannot cover it. 2 ]1 Y1 W# S [) {3 @: ~: [3 n' J: Z
. H3 s9 m6 \; r; b% }Dear president, dear professors, dear UA staffs, Dear consuls, now I speak on behalf of these bridges, thank you for holding a party for us, thank you for what you have done in the past years. We will remember our president, our supervisors, our staffs, remember Dr. Chris Le, remember Professor Chintha Tellambura, professor Scott Zhang, remember Ms. lihong yang, Ms. Carman, Professor Scott Zhang, cousul Xue yafei, consul Wang Li, consul Zhang fajun, consul Song chunlin, and many others. Build and develop more bridges, and make them better and stronger.
: E' y6 S, m+ J. {In this way, we can have a brighter future.* G; p7 T5 Q% l5 S" P* G
