  Primary  purpose:      The  Social Worker works  in  partnership  with  settlement  workers  or
community  cultural  brokers  from  New  Canadian  Health  Network  partner  organizations  to
7 d3 W2 ~6 p! r9 ~- Qprovide supplemental support to newcomers who have complex needs.

1 R8 C: ~! c" m, {# q4 R  Nature of Work: The Social Worker will  report  to  the manager of mental health services.  
The position builds working relationships with New Canadian Health Network partners’ staff,
+ @' y  y% T3 onewcomers accessing these services and other institutions and service providers. The Social
9 L( J( }1 _  B# A( [2 X! GWorker will  assist  in  case  planning,  conferencing  and  providing  support  and  advocacy  as
# Z8 U( w) p5 Z: m2 [6 Q7 tneeded.    As  required,  the  Social Worker  will  assist  in  accessing  community  supports  for
7 u5 a) w" g1 G0 \newcomers  and  their  families.  The  Social  Worker  provides  holistic  and  flexible  initial
assessment  of  life  circumstances,  needs,  goals  and  aspirations  and  adheres  to  the  client-
centered delivery model.

% ]2 \# T# `8 P  Q% Q: ]  Understands and adheres to professional ethics related to social work.
( q8 f* B; |' u! R  Accesses comprehensive, up-to-date information about services and resources available
5 [% k9 q0 z# r; V9 D: A% p, `4 B. Hwithin the city of Edmonton and New Canadian Health Network partners.
" r6 O3 R' A4 I' k& [2 |' B' R% ~  Providing holistic information or advocacy services for immigrants and refugees served.
  ~' w" g( y7 ^' C0 F7 Q8 Z$ p  Developing of social networks and community supports for newcomer families.
/ h6 y" n9 p, e& O0 p$ z3 W/ o  Provide intake, needs assessment, referral, case plans and action plans to support
7 L( Q. {  N. Y% \0 ?- Vnewcomers in settling and fully participating in community.
  Work in partnership with settlement workers or cultural brokers to provide supplemental
case plan support for clients who have complex needs.
' R+ q3 l1 Y* o; V% v% C* r, o  Advocate on newcomers’ behalf to programs, institutions and service providers.
  Treat all clients with dignity and patience in order to listen deeply and give thoughtful  
# c8 Y3 a1 G  P. jservice.  

& N1 H) G( q, J4 K4 eQualification
) J" ^6 e5 D+ B+ r( w& O
  Relevant undergraduate degree or diploma, or equivalent combination of education and
8 [! Q% R7 Y( g7 f3 n2 X8 Fexperience in Social Work or related human service fields.
$ o% {5 b% O$ F  Extensive knowledge of community resources, including in depth understanding of family
support needs
; m# w8 p6 ^" J, L) f+ e  Experience/facility with MS Office computer applications
$ B. ?. w% v" x" ^4 z# W1 }  Proficiency in both official languages is an asset, as is fluency in other languages
( k9 ^  W) _# O6 ]+ |  Possess a valid class 5 driver’s license and own a reliable vehicle with appropriate
2 x& L: i8 c& t9 K5 j  H' q% r/ ?insurance coverage for work
% G! `2 g* M) z0 k
  z& B8 W( p! O/ T* T% }Experience:  Minimum of 3 years experience working in a related field
& K& e  W9 l! H+ Z$ R
Special Requirements

  Flexibility in terms of scheduling, including evenings and weekends at various locations
* x. M- z+ R: v) L" X  Previous experience in working collaboratively with staff from partner organizations

Strong English communications skills
Experience/facility with MS Office computer applications
