* 43% were first-time buyers (up from 36% in 2008); X4 S( ]1 d" m* o, Q& d
* 35% of buyers were age 18-34
' G& [- W. g$ X * 66% bought a home that was more expensive than their previous residence; 22% bought a less expensive home
& W/ F, W. T2 X1 O; O# d& p2 o * 59% bought a larger home; 24% downsized! _ w0 W% N2 w+ C( \7 N. W
* 74% bought an existing home; 22% bought new construction. O, S' y% | k! ?
* 55% purchased a single-detached home; 18% bought an apartment condo" S6 s, D& i5 z j/ U
* 5% of households intend to buy in 2010; 53% of those are renters' U+ @+ N Z- M+ W+ g7 N, h
* 42% of those intending to purchase plan to make a down payment of 20% or more.
