City council is considering putting 30-kilometre-an-hour zones around some schools, after pressure from parents.

Administration officials have long argued that there is no evidence school speed zones reduce the danger for children.( [, c% Q3 |$ n

"This is simply adding it to our set of solutions," Rick Millican, general manager of transportation, said. "Council is not saying if they approve it, put a school zone everywhere someone wants on.. l7 J# v8 Y% `2 M5 q( A# f

The city hasn't used reduced speed limits around schools for more than 20 years.

( g, r8 m. r' x$ ^Patricia Grell, with the Woodcroft area school council, says every school and playground should have lower speed limits.

: W* s S% r( a"People are in a hurry, people are stressed out, they forget the speed limit and our children are very at risk when they are going to these places," she said.
