City council is considering putting 30-kilometre-an-hour zones around some schools, after pressure from parents.

$ ]' d! N( ~% E! R% C# O" V; fAdministration officials have long argued that there is no evidence school speed zones reduce the danger for children.

& O7 i7 O& ^3 C; D5 B5 B"This is simply adding it to our set of solutions," Rick Millican, general manager of transportation, said. "Council is not saying if they approve it, put a school zone everywhere someone wants on.

The city hasn't used reduced speed limits around schools for more than 20 years.

"People are in a hurry, people are stressed out, they forget the speed limit and our children are very at risk when they are going to these places," she said.
