City council is considering putting 30-kilometre-an-hour zones around some schools, after pressure from parents.8 N3 h) p) v( b# {# E+ c

Administration officials have long argued that there is no evidence school speed zones reduce the danger for children.# c5 v. V$ A! {! ]' w% N4 E1 T2 E' t" n
/ d) F) U" g" b9 v0 |3 s( m) V! O# n"This is simply adding it to our set of solutions," Rick Millican, general manager of transportation, said. "Council is not saying if they approve it, put a school zone everywhere someone wants on.( {3 f( Y/ r4 n0 I N* ]2 F. m2 p' [

The city hasn't used reduced speed limits around schools for more than 20 years.

"People are in a hurry, people are stressed out, they forget the speed limit and our children are very at risk when they are going to these places," she said.
