City council is considering putting 30-kilometre-an-hour zones around some schools, after pressure from parents.

Administration officials have long argued that there is no evidence school speed zones reduce the danger for children.
V4 g1 u& a( {% z# w1 i1 U) w; `
"This is simply adding it to our set of solutions," Rick Millican, general manager of transportation, said. "Council is not saying if they approve it, put a school zone everywhere someone wants on.8 Y: p3 F; |3 G& n' ^

The city hasn't used reduced speed limits around schools for more than 20 years.

Patricia Grell, with the Woodcroft area school council, says every school and playground should have lower speed limits.& p' p( d$ R) b' i/ s+ S

"People are in a hurry, people are stressed out, they forget the speed limit and our children are very at risk when they are going to these places," she said.
