Administration officials have long argued that there is no evidence school speed zones reduce the danger for children.; [0 x' f: M( Y5 T7 G
! u/ ?" X1 }, V0 g8 l& t"This is simply adding it to our set of solutions," Rick Millican, general manager of transportation, said. "Council is not saying if they approve it, put a school zone everywhere someone wants on.

The city hasn't used reduced speed limits around schools for more than 20 years.
