Administration officials have long argued that there is no evidence school speed zones reduce the danger for children.5 b$ o& v0 ^1 @8 z* v2 j
& q! n1 g- r' W9 U/ {"This is simply adding it to our set of solutions," Rick Millican, general manager of transportation, said. "Council is not saying if they approve it, put a school zone everywhere someone wants on. w6 Q$ H; T8 B3 H
' f5 y& t0 ?' wThe city hasn't used reduced speed limits around schools for more than 20 years.
