While in the legislature he served as Senate Majority Leader. During these
0 g( e: e2 c: }9 }+ Gyears, Jim West supported several anti-gay bills, including one that would
have banned gays and lesbians from working in schools and day care centers.
He also proposed a law that would ban all sexual activity among persons
under the age of 18 (the bill failed). He would later admit that he
" o5 {/ F5 A! f* Xregretted voting for those measures.[1] In 1995, when West was a state
senator, he advocated the impeachment of then-Gov. Mike Lowry for alleged
# R! ^+ w$ \! d/ k  p2 {sexual harassment.

West was involved in a sex scandal in 2005. He was accused of sexually
$ a9 k# u6 k+ [3 h( a0 u# @abusing two young boys in the 1970s and 1980s when he was a sheriff's deputy
and Boy Scout leader. He was also accused of misusing his office as mayor
to lure teenage boys for sexual relationships. West called the molestation
; o- f" A# D* C4 P! ~8 Nallegations "flat lies". However he admitted to having private online
relationships in the past year through the Gay.com website (see ([3]).

West confirmed the accusations of meeting men over the Internet but denied
the charges that he had sought out minors (see[4]). Using the name "Right-
BiGuy" he allegedly offered internships to young gay men (some of whom were
just graduating from high school - none of whom, however, under the age of
18.

Ted Arthur Haggard (born June 27, 1956) is a former American evangelical
preacher. Known as Pastor Ted to the congregations he served, he is the
founder and former pastor of the New Life Church in Colorado Springs,
; `& k' |" c1 X: c, l! UColorado; a founder of the Association of Life-Giving Churches; and was
7 _+ p4 `) s: J& Y( pleader of the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE) from 2003[1] until
November 2006.

In November 2006, he resigned or was removed from all of his leadership
' c5 O. R# c6 C8 rpositions after he admitted soliciting prostitute Mike Jones for homosexual
4 M6 S* t( y, Hsex and methamphetamine. Initially Haggard denied even knowing Mike Jones,
" I% I# T3 G9 b% vbut as a media investigation proceeded he acknowledged that some allegations
! S) O. z; L- D! c" g$ h( Z, such as his purchase of methamphetamine, were true. He later added "sexual
& A' U. i% M0 }+ A) q) Y9 S5 ]immorality" to his list of confessions.[2]

After the scandal was publicized, Haggard entered three weeks of intensive
counseling, overseen by four ministers. In February 2007, one of those
6 x7 O9 H" C# m; d/ m# qministers, Tim Ralph, said that Haggard "is completely heterosexual."[3]
/ c+ Z* \' L3 F0 r$ V- i: U1 ^! zRalph later said he meant that therapy "gave Ted the tools to help to
embrace his heterosexual side."[4] As of early 2009, Haggard continues to
receive counseling, and now he says that he is a “heterosexual with issues.

On January 23, 2009, officials from Haggard's former church announced that a
3 [9 z8 `5 }& ]1 eyoung male church member had come forward in 2006 and that there was an "
overwhelming pool of evidence [of an] inappropriate, consensual sexual
relationship [that] went on for a long period of time [with Haggard] ... it
wasn't a one-time act."[76] Haggard's successor, Brady Boyd, said the church
reached a six figure settlement with the man, who was in his early 20s at
the time.[78] According to the man, he said the contact was "not consensual"
( {: U0 v% S" H( _# gand this is not about "opening new wounds" it's about a much larger issue.[
