under the age of 18 (the bill failed). He would later admit that he

! v2 u. _  j; w+ r1 ^West was involved in a sex scandal in 2005. He was accused of sexually
abusing two young boys in the 1970s and 1980s when he was a sheriff's deputy
. }# b) p8 Y4 `* J+ Z/ eand Boy Scout leader. He was also accused of misusing his office as mayor
' I) m4 H5 [* n/ jto lure teenage boys for sexual relationships. West called the molestation
8 K& B/ R( p/ Q4 X3 V: Tallegations "flat lies". However he admitted to having private online
relationships in the past year through the Gay.com website (see ([3]).

' w4 l/ ^! S* D; AWest confirmed the accusations of meeting men over the Internet but denied
the charges that he had sought out minors (see[4]). Using the name "Right-
8 Y% {' ?7 I/ d% d% PBiGuy" he allegedly offered internships to young gay men (some of whom were
# a% i$ q3 z9 D" f5 mjust graduating from high school - none of whom, however, under the age of
0 {# B+ @' Z# g' X2 d* ~18.

4 u/ y3 \. H( J5 z: a9 fpreacher. Known as Pastor Ted to the congregations he served, he is the
founder and former pastor of the New Life Church in Colorado Springs,
& K$ o+ m0 |9 Z7 uColorado; a founder of the Association of Life-Giving Churches; and was
1 D# U) a8 N& [; T2 ?' \leader of the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE) from 2003[1] until
November 2006.

0 W$ L+ i5 T3 n% W) P( K8 ]0 e" EIn November 2006, he resigned or was removed from all of his leadership
positions after he admitted soliciting prostitute Mike Jones for homosexual
" D3 |1 |' I* v3 I( `, z4 Zsex and methamphetamine. Initially Haggard denied even knowing Mike Jones,
: ]5 k; }& W& }but as a media investigation proceeded he acknowledged that some allegations
5 a* x1 \; J5 i! p$ g1 o5 f" g, such as his purchase of methamphetamine, were true. He later added "sexual
+ }: D% A) N' c1 z) P. `immorality" to his list of confessions.[2]

1 ?1 p; }& e; n2 f, H4 h+ |8 f% SAfter the scandal was publicized, Haggard entered three weeks of intensive
+ c, p; L6 H6 ]3 ]# ^counseling, overseen by four ministers. In February 2007, one of those
# f1 T: U/ l, g  u: @ministers, Tim Ralph, said that Haggard "is completely heterosexual."[3]
Ralph later said he meant that therapy "gave Ted the tools to help to
embrace his heterosexual side."[4] As of early 2009, Haggard continues to
receive counseling, and now he says that he is a “heterosexual with issues.
”

On January 23, 2009, officials from Haggard's former church announced that a
% j$ r8 S. `: C$ F8 p  `young male church member had come forward in 2006 and that there was an "
overwhelming pool of evidence [of an] inappropriate, consensual sexual
4 i4 j' }6 S0 q" c2 D9 t2 J7 y8 |relationship [that] went on for a long period of time [with Haggard] ... it
  p: H0 T8 h/ ~) @0 ~wasn't a one-time act."[76] Haggard's successor, Brady Boyd, said the church
reached a six figure settlement with the man, who was in his early 20s at
9 v; u* X" }9 a1 I* N8 xthe time.[78] According to the man, he said the contact was "not consensual"
and this is not about "opening new wounds" it's about a much larger issue.[
