He also proposed a law that would ban all sexual activity among persons
under the age of 18 (the bill failed). He would later admit that he
regretted voting for those measures.[1] In 1995, when West was a state
0 N6 R- x" g% M) W: y; b' k' gsenator, he advocated the impeachment of then-Gov. Mike Lowry for alleged
sexual harassment.

West was involved in a sex scandal in 2005. He was accused of sexually
abusing two young boys in the 1970s and 1980s when he was a sheriff's deputy
1 T9 g& m1 g# `5 Fand Boy Scout leader. He was also accused of misusing his office as mayor
to lure teenage boys for sexual relationships. West called the molestation
9 Z- P# a+ S9 K" N1 [' V* f( L6 Callegations "flat lies". However he admitted to having private online
relationships in the past year through the Gay.com website (see ([3]).

West confirmed the accusations of meeting men over the Internet but denied
* G2 }2 s, M- S7 y1 mthe charges that he had sought out minors (see[4]). Using the name "Right-
BiGuy" he allegedly offered internships to young gay men (some of whom were
9 O& A2 E! i/ J# p# q. o0 o, F* X; Kjust graduating from high school - none of whom, however, under the age of
18.

founder and former pastor of the New Life Church in Colorado Springs,
$ H: I. J, x# ~1 }# X' FColorado; a founder of the Association of Life-Giving Churches; and was
. M9 D4 @, V+ D- hleader of the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE) from 2003[1] until
6 s( K& d& T8 A% L" hNovember 2006.

3 ?, l" B; P1 k& W9 M# dIn November 2006, he resigned or was removed from all of his leadership
positions after he admitted soliciting prostitute Mike Jones for homosexual
2 p6 p' N  t7 L7 b* @- n9 Fsex and methamphetamine. Initially Haggard denied even knowing Mike Jones,
but as a media investigation proceeded he acknowledged that some allegations
" B; I4 [$ u3 A, such as his purchase of methamphetamine, were true. He later added "sexual
immorality" to his list of confessions.[2]

After the scandal was publicized, Haggard entered three weeks of intensive
' p" @% ?1 l, k# a2 Y3 |% gcounseling, overseen by four ministers. In February 2007, one of those
+ N* O0 P2 G5 m# bministers, Tim Ralph, said that Haggard "is completely heterosexual."[3]
$ f7 i- v+ B2 sRalph later said he meant that therapy "gave Ted the tools to help to
% N6 P$ d" }$ @( S+ b- _embrace his heterosexual side."[4] As of early 2009, Haggard continues to
receive counseling, and now he says that he is a “heterosexual with issues.

On January 23, 2009, officials from Haggard's former church announced that a
  G1 \) m2 B+ ~) v* K( X- }young male church member had come forward in 2006 and that there was an "
' O( A) Q: O. E: ]; \overwhelming pool of evidence [of an] inappropriate, consensual sexual
5 g  N8 p) C& M/ crelationship [that] went on for a long period of time [with Haggard] ... it
* ~7 D7 l9 f' f& [& pwasn't a one-time act."[76] Haggard's successor, Brady Boyd, said the church
reached a six figure settlement with the man, who was in his early 20s at
5 G: J: g) c, ^& e7 R1 Rthe time.[78] According to the man, he said the contact was "not consensual"
and this is not about "opening new wounds" it's about a much larger issue.[
