The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
; U: u7 Y3 n8 iRoles and Functions1 A( e& l+ V" l$ u" V
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
. ]! o, Y. ?' norganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
8 o- P, T7 E; D5 g, Noperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has# u2 l# E' N% G3 K8 p* ^0 Q# u6 ?
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
4 [. Q8 Z9 A9 \; w. ^! ooperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
' F* q. C5 l$ h N! k+ Fboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is" X0 v: w& J3 W4 G. ]
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an4 h! a7 e: X( c5 c
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
0 ~ f8 j& _- F) h, m! Ustaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
L5 Y2 g& S5 z4 r3 P5 r% Tall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:9 {9 I0 L( [' {( W5 {9 u
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
' G8 @' o, N3 H1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the- n# Z# `+ B {! O v- y0 K
officers of the Coalition" d1 f3 m& J8 {: c, y( D7 a4 u
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
5 @. y- q5 X; A Q% B# Korganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations& }3 l! y5 u; z& R
and public institutions* C8 o' A% Q; r8 _3 Q5 ]
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through m. _- s2 I$ _" m- m$ O
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives) n4 a: R* b% R1 \0 K
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
4 S% L( w! P# s- Horganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with
* R* {( R. \6 t! l" K5 qthese organizations
% Y3 g2 L$ N) b, R5 a; `7 u' d5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

. P+ t4 ^2 L4 f6 a& O. ?Administrative responsibilities:
7 [; Q _6 I2 r" v+ A, m1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its3 Q! b$ ?8 _1 W3 Y# R1 ?% G A
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of' W8 s8 d8 L# Z) ~1 a% a
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
+ U$ B/ u* s' y, Q; ~9 Fmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.$ Y6 C' y# \5 x' M3 O1 K# Q
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
, ~1 @+ Y" U7 x6 z; s4 ]. m. GMulticultural Coalition
; }* u/ A" Q" E2 S) ARelationship of the Coordinator to the Board9 K8 E: u& S0 l# B' g- }: P$ O# H
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
8 X0 Y+ L) R, `1 J* h# J+ wimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
% c3 A+ [ h1 n! U* `* \6 Joperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
9 S# m4 `- e2 @0 \The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
" P0 F* s/ M5 H8 ]" O( o4 x* Jaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
2 u+ n6 H, ~) A6 gbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership6 Z3 Z0 E) W: Z1 c
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
L# O5 n6 t0 @; Yfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
9 _4 T- ?( b- Y( s. ? Xdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial- i/ E; E: x! E, g [1 a
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
, M( a4 h' B% s- ?matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
8 Z0 k9 E$ m: G7 pdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
8 o4 }- F8 }: l+ jpolicies already adopted! \' n5 [5 e1 H4 U$ @
