The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
: f4 j8 n9 w$ o* R/ P0 X! z5 g. z" rRoles and Functions
- S- k C+ t' U" L; i& @' jThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the A5 v8 e4 n1 O0 B
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the" j/ n/ _. _: r9 `0 x
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has) p% Q0 q# x, w* `3 r
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,8 D9 x7 `" s q7 S( Z) ^$ w1 U& c
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
- D: F1 G1 U: G Q. yboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is- W7 P$ L( R' M( ^6 d. }! C
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
w# O5 y0 ]$ e% f" {2 Q9 bemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
# x: U# q- e3 q# vstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
; I4 ^" C& U- e5 N3 X& x% `all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.4 P4 G' o% d8 [3 y9 G* N

: a5 |7 f; |5 q. w+ `1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the( t5 z5 U4 a4 M1 U

2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural4 ]( h$ v' @6 W* ?7 C5 ^ l
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations3 g$ G7 h5 r6 W2 I/ B( E" A6 H4 d
and public institutions2 Y) y' H8 j7 F: f o7 `
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through* _6 y: F# A& O) _/ }5 O) _
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives

Administrative responsibilities:
+ _' e& {7 N& j) {1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
* b( e7 I& h) [: w) \0 x, s2 V7 Qregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
0 `7 l, r# A' a/ m3 q C+ o2 Fdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the* T8 C& h2 }1 P, ~9 R
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
! l9 c9 a5 v" J% I# k, J2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the. l) X3 @: h3 b2 n

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board, M' u# C+ T7 l1 w! f5 m
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
$ E& R. C+ y9 R; S) Jimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating* j+ M+ Z1 Q8 s: z% \
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
6 S2 I# M7 G! i; u- rThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and# }( A' U I4 P1 V: P) q
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
" a+ D+ ^, [6 a) h+ ube noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership, M! V5 `' B. S( J3 H
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and

statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all

directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
