9 W, e6 H# [/ v' I4 ~: jThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
: F: C+ T9 X+ `8 I: {8 horganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the3 U- T; |5 k. F0 W5 [4 Q
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
, g# X# F7 }7 y _: [; }) N' h: [the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,6 F" a7 I& m w' S' c- u# J9 S
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
) g9 i- K' R) e7 s0 m; \* |$ Oboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is6 K. M. V& V8 N7 u$ a- P# P
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
# o* c. o3 @# e# L2 pemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
- \6 M+ J' y( q: c# B' kstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend' h5 t W8 b, n* m. p# L* e1 |
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant. z( E$ w9 U4 ~8 L [1 Q

Functions and responsibilities:+ B. t6 a) n8 A, ~ X
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:2 o' j# z# u9 ?# \9 T- i2 s
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
: P( D% }1 S9 E7 k% N1 [) _officers of the Coalition
7 ]# V; m+ k& c8 a2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
) [# ]; b! O& A! {organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations( a! X$ Z6 L! n* k
and public institutions
2 ?8 i z' h0 v' A8 E. l3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through2 K4 n5 m1 i8 a" k
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
$ u8 r% H* H3 a4 i! n4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
4 L/ w( {9 R' {5 Norganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with# I' Z7 T! ^. K5 m

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community, M+ s3 L8 x% }/ B

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic/ O3 L3 y0 j% f
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society8 W8 u; m: G" s" D9 t
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working! T/ r$ f7 s0 Y/ M+ D, S. _; J
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

Administrative responsibilities:8 x$ o5 Q, h, v8 U9 e
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its, F/ v" x" _( n) D( h( O/ P
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of5 E2 I# a. @/ _3 k
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the7 e# R$ [+ O# i, H1 O3 d
members of the Coalition’s financial condition. W, S0 V- V3 ~
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the; d! z. t9 L% j: O; E

3 `# b% o* o. k1 `8 U3 d2 b# VAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
6 Z* G6 z9 X. J4 }; T3 V0 R8 c1 yimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
& ^" ~2 B _4 |9 _operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.6 V- ]+ f4 Y4 h% }8 @
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and. e3 o! r B2 Q0 i$ o4 E2 R
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
5 G5 M! }5 v# o6 q% V5 ?be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership& _' U. k! d, z5 n- m- ]' s
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and$ N% W) `2 _/ n7 O, n. U
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
6 X4 e0 e( x+ m$ j# V9 A4 `directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial( _5 ]4 G0 t) h: l$ q
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
" x+ L4 [2 v. G5 }matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of1 l3 A) j, m. t1 i7 I. g
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
