They are also responsible for other important tasks, including:



. N8 I; e: R; VDiagnosing diesel engine malfunctions and making indicated repairs
; j3 g* [  r. G# o+ L) \Operating machinery in a safe and effective manner
Providing daily locomotive maintenance that includes changing oil or repairing, replacing, cleaning and adjusting parts
- q3 [% Y  B! V1 c. P* P1 mAssembling and starting engines
$ e. O$ a" e# IDiagnosing locomotive component malfunctions
Preparing inspection, work and maintenance reports

Good eye-hand coordination
" }, S( I$ G6 W$ ^/ M1 ?  FFrequently lifting weights up to 50 pounds
Occasionally lifting weights up to 100 pounds
" _' R* a& ~, U; b' qPhysical work, sometimes outdoors in extreme weather conditions
Regular exposure to dust, pollen, fumes, noise and vibrations
Working shifts, sometimes away from home
Basic technical knowledge of diesel
Welding skills
Using measuring devices and understanding visual displays
5 z: K; d8 x  n1 R  Y; eMay need current, valid drivers license, CDL, and locomotive engineer certification
6 c: {% G4 }3 f  U! j8 A( m) bVisual acuity and hearing threshold tests are required for this position. Written pre-employment tests to become a Machinist Apprentice are required for this position. Completion of 3-year apprenticeship is required to become a Journeyman Machinist. This position is subject to night, weekend and holiday work hours when needed.
