T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip 2 ^: s$ D# R4 T  S6 `4 o" W
Asian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering 1 O6 \2 }! V/ o- e2 G# B
opportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on ; v" Q2 H. j/ q3 n9 }
interpersonal skills, anger management, personal development,
; c/ r' J: s! B  [$ [and  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.
; i* A2 O! ~! w- V8 ^6 m# A$ r! H: G. [

9 k/ a/ u6 q. a3 e0 E( IWhat will take place in the sessions?1 c$ A; {' c0 [8 T1 C5 p: r0 ?  c
Each session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.: G# ]! Y* f* J' C1 r' i4 ?' E1 p' E

 Explore personal interests in arts and recreation5 a" O; g) g* D# H7 V1 ?$ c

 Identify personal leadership strengths …

Program Schedule:
: t; ^  L; p% v, J; X! x( `! K- FRegular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.2 g9 ^+ U: A( @% e6 K
Summer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily* I: @( ?" Y+ |( K. [* s2 g  O
                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily/ T: U! E7 F9 R. f: c

9 F" t3 V3 e3 g7 l5 kWho can participate?
' F" y9 @. j/ V: A! l& ^Asian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.) o/ [  j0 y' i. r
" h+ B1 ]# z, T7 B0 e: C
What is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?
1 o! |6 z3 O7 e, t6 |0 rIt is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.. B& M4 w* H! x' F/ m+ k; E
# D, f2 I' t9 z" s1 p

: J4 T, o" s" |3 d5 lVolunteer’s Duties:' d6 V0 W! C' x# d7 D' @9 y

% C* n  Y9 ]7 z) ~. D0 s Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies
, ?& ?' L) @1 M" S& Q& K. ?$ p Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
- N1 u" d9 Q# ?7 \ Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities
' Y# Z7 V. m: h& i1 \- ? Facilitate or assist in small group discussions4 Y+ O) G; j/ f1 [( F9 T
 Research activities related to the sessions’ topic8 B6 O7 K% t! k
 Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips* y0 K1 {' `0 S( S7 {
 Assist in program planning6 r( |* N. Y# q7 n' Q2 w5 z$ k
 Be a role model

Volunteer Commitment:
! J/ w# M- N7 G4 ? & k. Z8 y$ u1 X. R9 C
 On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)# I( `5 D9 P" t: C6 R6 g# D
 One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer# `. X2 X, E. D* r7 {; A1 C/ Y& V

Attitude/Skills Requirements:

5 O4 Y! F  j2 [# ^8 X Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator
; s  M) N; y7 C! | Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program
* \5 o4 q- Z2 _! Z A team player# Z0 z8 r: |$ e# [' h) M/ [
 Able to work independently with minimum supervision
, d8 a) e' L* m- y. a) `! I Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families
" p8 n& a( g; e9 }) h" b. H Willing to work with youth including youth at risk
