T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip + w9 p& y! n/ W1 u
Asian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering
5 R% v) e! W2 i) H  B  f( Copportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on
9 m( t0 a' p5 N0 c! Ginterpersonal skills, anger management, personal development, 1 M  G# ^" j# p- W
and  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.

What will take place in the sessions?
1 A0 d" L3 d& w$ Y* `Each session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.
* y+ `% g' Q* x* X7 m9 C
6 D' B# r# u( A5 ~. y( o. yThese activities will enable youth to:
5 o1 h# g4 t1 T1 V. ^. Y Explore personal interests in arts and recreation
! p5 X0 A9 T0 l; @8 t; Y. k Learn how to access community services and programs
# u3 d. v" ]; e, r2 E Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills' S, n* e& Y3 q5 H8 l$ i6 G
 Identify personal leadership strengths …

Program Schedule:* j- \0 G# @" x3 t
Regular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.7 P- d2 A5 a# F" n
Summer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
8 m/ S$ ~0 C$ p2 t5 ~  I! E# f                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily

Who can participate?$ V- a4 G: q: `
Asian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.4 T  S+ U) ^, u1 n

. E2 u! d6 l& U) L8 \What is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?: c: w" N" Y& `9 p/ C! j$ k
It is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.) }$ z8 {# ]! M
$ W& M% V/ F" S  z+ c5 t
; L$ m" v" {- p3 U( p
Volunteer’s Duties:
7 \( z, N0 ?. m5 i9 p  c; t9 E5 m, d$ m$ _2 c3 M
 Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies
: V8 J0 P# L, _# g( w+ |/ L Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
: m4 i; r" a( E$ P- ]4 I8 u Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities2 a+ B4 X! ~2 m) |- B) f% D( Z
 Facilitate or assist in small group discussions+ e1 h2 X" a5 |
 Research activities related to the sessions’ topic
' j0 E; K6 J$ g# f+ C Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips( ]' h. f' N% K. }
 Assist in program planning
0 H' l$ Q# s8 P: S4 v Be a role model

0 m  X1 F6 \$ `" gVolunteer Commitment:
4 n. q# W9 u* r/ e ( R6 M/ m+ i& D) u9 y, ~
 On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)
, B3 M6 d. A* K& L' o, v/ N One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer$ @0 q: o) C! q

/ q* c1 A7 p( U4 KAttitude/Skills Requirements:( a3 \3 Z, u. h. `) _

9 `, B+ ^& U$ {! }- q7 Y& M Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator
1 s: b8 x2 r  b& H Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program) W/ |* k! h  d2 M: U) `' I- L
 A team player
4 i( P& k. h3 m5 {( F9 U" q Able to work independently with minimum supervision, r& L$ I7 V( V) R9 o% X
 Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families, N  j. s3 \7 ^9 Y/ R9 q
 Willing to work with youth including youth at risk; h1 e/ c' V: M: x" ^
