T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip
* J! b7 r; S- |8 K5 I9 MAsian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering + }# L: K! {& ]+ C" @- m
opportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on ; @- a! t, l4 J7 W3 Z7 r. z4 Z6 X
interpersonal skills, anger management, personal development, 1 K% N% J* c* ]$ O% A. a
and  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.5 ]. `7 r9 J7 X6 E& f: D

& ]+ k; e7 _% |1 `6 r6 A) fWhat will take place in the sessions?: H+ r$ W, L+ r$ P
Each session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.$ u: ]- N! v9 `( ]

These activities will enable youth to:" ?: d! b) _% O9 t3 h- S
 Explore personal interests in arts and recreation
, b$ j( L6 \& P$ T% c Learn how to access community services and programs! X% v. s( w$ S, v
 Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills
7 b! M' U7 t5 k6 ^& Y6 Z" r Identify personal leadership strengths …- U6 f4 Q2 a8 P! L, \

& w. p' t& h2 \& I0 zProgram Schedule:
1 U$ }- @% ~! u" q4 mRegular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.
5 R9 _% b6 l: S, wSummer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily& R) u" y. t  r" }# U0 {
                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
9 c7 V" X( Q% S; {- g8 Z) V$ z8 v5 l8 e% A
Who can participate?
6 O7 W0 Z% L: M5 J$ A; k- eAsian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.- `% r, f! w7 ]! K! y
) X$ y0 }; x1 e8 x
What is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?. F- Q  x9 M3 \/ V
It is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.3 ~+ @$ C: y1 t  T

( I9 v) d6 X3 s0 e. z- B4 ]/ A* i( k7 q/ m( S0 `; \
Volunteer’s Duties:( m6 r% }- o5 u

6 ?1 g0 i: N+ |& A% z7 M& k Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies
- `) a6 s" V  R9 t/ X# x Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development 0 f8 |- m7 E# _" b- x! @& V1 i5 R& j
 Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities
& R7 z7 Y# F3 M; q9 W/ c Facilitate or assist in small group discussions; d4 k8 Q4 _4 ]( B" X
 Research activities related to the sessions’ topic
& [9 z0 M& U  A0 U Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips
+ }# T7 p5 s9 C/ [: t) l0 U+ { Assist in program planning; Z# C$ Q2 V1 i3 ]
 Be a role model
7 F& ^# k& K" J; i" l, z  x; |9 Y' t( S  `. e. J5 ?: P* g
Volunteer Commitment:
; @* S- f+ U! }. x& r
; I2 s% y  l( o; Z, ]; o On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)
% U8 l8 t. s7 S3 u4 M One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer
8 ^9 Z. L7 ^9 g# ?& \% d5 _  V6 Q& k  W' p# u2 P% e
Attitude/Skills Requirements:
+ o. t& G# F/ W: \( S8 r! ]; N# q+ W* Z7 T5 u& F2 p% }, f7 i' o; p
 Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator6 A" K: ~. K; f: e4 k9 `2 s( c
 Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program
: E/ U/ }; \( J" j6 P9 V' f& g A team player* g, Y5 b/ i1 o' {, @* p% [
 Able to work independently with minimum supervision
) p  j4 ~0 e2 Y0 k5 n Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families
. O/ q1 q5 l' z: q6 ]* B$ ~  }/ x Willing to work with youth including youth at risk$ K" x1 @# |1 z
