T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip % X) }. Q2 |+ ~& k' d' O. f
Asian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering

interpersonal skills, anger management, personal development,
0 T4 Y8 [1 @) e4 Band  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.

3 X, d0 m; O5 n: n- X$ P: o5 w. c9 cWhat will take place in the sessions?
2 V( O" Q  U) u$ KEach session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.6 s: \' S0 |4 e# }9 {3 G, H
5 [' q- @! P8 V. }5 p
These activities will enable youth to:# o* d4 i* ?: e
 Explore personal interests in arts and recreation
: ^6 @. r6 d7 G1 R  c  ]0 v Learn how to access community services and programs3 |2 Y0 \5 f, Y& G
 Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills
# E- C: B+ V# C  k! Q Identify personal leadership strengths …! ]( H$ Z+ Z# a/ S

, c1 D& Y' }+ FProgram Schedule:
% e* e7 U1 e" [4 B; K+ E) yRegular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.
; C; g; x% f% v1 y$ b4 [+ Z) B+ TSummer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily2 r* B8 A% d6 x
                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily

2 ~' E1 T, j/ TWho can participate?$ A1 H4 G8 ~7 l
Asian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.
5 Q6 h* R' E5 t* ^+ o: k/ F( @9 \1 K1 k+ S
What is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?; t. l3 Z0 T' ~( i- X) `0 _
It is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.8 P3 Z8 c6 |7 A$ i1 ?

; M8 M- F" _. M# I8 x3 r& sVolunteer’s Duties:7 G1 P0 d" E2 g; r, c
) I# U" s0 k- c' ?
 Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies , k1 G& O& o+ u" e1 X7 [
 Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development $ d- U4 B! `5 ?/ n" j% L
 Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities
7 O* a) Y1 O) }# j) n; f( Q- S Facilitate or assist in small group discussions. j* B, [, S& _- g+ f  g  T! S
 Research activities related to the sessions’ topic
' n5 @$ b7 N; g; a3 _2 V6 M Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips! q7 u: E+ U2 Z5 t) e3 ]9 [% l
 Assist in program planning0 n: h8 J1 j3 O& f
 Be a role model' B  y7 v1 C- I4 k& A! C

8 o. D1 E2 N( d( O7 @; e; }Volunteer Commitment:
* T- L4 ?0 V& { ! ~2 c; a' U+ I3 P& X+ h* J0 ~: ~
 On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)/ e) s" E+ N3 @# ]( U2 M6 }
 One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer

0 V( _' ~" V* h2 z7 [ Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator  }! v; o; b9 \' I8 S- a
 Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program
, S5 z& ]/ B0 I A team player/ q5 K3 z" T4 Q0 E
 Able to work independently with minimum supervision: B9 P1 X; m# W, t1 _. T
 Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families
+ z& ~- f5 B/ m" X+ k Willing to work with youth including youth at risk
