Main duties

Design, develop and test power equipment and systems, industrial process control systems, telecommunication, broadcast, recording and audiovisual systems, micro-electronic systems and circuits, computers, computer systems and networks, and computer software. E% M0 j! i& R2 Z/ K' [
Supervise the building and testing of prototypes according to general instructions and established standards/ `6 L9 s$ G! i8 P. T
Conduct or supervise the installation, commissioning, and operation of electrical and electronic equipment and systems other than aircraft electronics or instruments

Assist in building and testing prototypes to specifications

8 I7 w0 E! c( L$ W9 \0 SCompletion of a two- or three-year college program in electrical or electronics engineering technology, computer engineering technology, telecommunications technology or an equivalent is usually required for electrical or electronics engineering technologists.5 d3 P% u4 |: ]/ R2 v! v6 w
Completion of a one- or two-year college program in electrical or electronics engineering technology is usually required for electrical or electronics engineering technicians.3 }+ V: A; n, f4 a9 |6 G
Certification in electrical or electronics engineering technology or in a related field is available through provincial associations of engineering/applied science technologists and technicians and may be required for some positions.
' _0 J; @; e( YA period of supervised work experience, usually two years, is required before certification.3 b& m. {: o m& n t. M! X5 n; F
In Quebec, membership in the regulatory body is required to use the title of Professional Technologist.2 e6 e" e$ @4 b0 q3 Z
