as a low income family, you'll also receive a whole bunch of benefits including GST returns, low income bus passes, free health care, increased child care allowance, low income accommodations, etc etc etc. basically, the government won't let you live on the street unless you choose to. but at the same time, it's going to be a pretty hard lifestyle.
