Change the Federal Skilled Worker Program to place greater emphasis on labour demands.
* r/ u1 B+ Q2 `; u* h$ d" dMake it easier for temporary workers to become permanent immigrants.
( e2 S9 v. h$ q1 y- U5 V6 P! u h2 yChange National Occupation Codes to reflect employer needs and recognize a broader range of skilled positions.
# G7 r5 P' d4 w( K1 L* R/ Y6 i rStreamline the Temporary Foreign Worker application and approval process.
0 j- \( }+ c( w5 g+ d! ~/ M/ B“What’s needed now is the recognition that we must aggressively recruit in international labour markets," said Tim Shipton, President of the Alberta Enterprise Group.

; l9 g( u m& k6 `7 Z"We need to recognize that we are competing not just with the United States, not just with western Canada, we are competing globally for a small pool of skilled workers out there so we need the system to become much more responsive and streamlined to the needs of the economy, he said.4 }6 n6 r. 9 b3 q" a8 B+ J& c. g$ tThe Alberta government agrees the cap on immigrant workers allowed to come to the province needs to be much higher, said Shipton.% a: s3 \) n0 R2 a; q% K; P/ }
- z4 M9 v5 B( `" @; t' DCurrently the federal government has set the cap at 5,000 workers, while Alberta wants the number raised to 10,000." b' H! D* l8 W6 T; }5 ~
