* P) N: p6 e8 p% |9 S6 V3 [1 Q
: K2 L* S/ t9 y1 T: h# r7 N
        1. I couldn't care less.
6 Q. O9 G% M7 F8 c
& V) i8 A$ f3 q6 Q 这句话的意思是“我不在乎”,“缺乏兴趣”(lack of interest),也就是:I don''t care at all. 或 I don''t give a hoot. 例如:
- ]0 x; V- k6 M; D8 m, B
* G# O* k9 U5 }/ m. e8 F  人家如果问: What do you think of the budget-cut?(你对预算削减有何看法?) ( D: a$ A, s/ }: T

. C# H1 z3 b* E+ R, R9 |8 ]! { 你回答: I couldn't care less.(我毫不在乎) : r( @, U1 c8 r# W
1 i, s/ C  S+ `3 W& b1 R
  How do you like Mr. Lee's political point of view?(你喜欢李先生的政见吗?) ( o7 a- f8 S: H* E, s
. m8 L, K/ K9 E3 M% o* S/ q& R
  I couldn't care less.(我才不在乎呢!)
0 O9 x* ~; b( D
8 I" N  w8 \) z. r& V2 ? 但是有时说话者也有口是心非: 例如:
. c6 f1 N) W% b3 I) j; l" D* I! j4 [
I couldn't care less about the promotion or pay raise.(我不在乎升级或加薪)
5 t( x0 X( a6 \. \# ?  L& L4 m2 P  P# y; U/ _/ t  k  G+ H
Yes, you do(care).
; l" d% M- y8 f4 c, l3 Q/ q
! [5 X) b/ G" ^" m0 ^9 C 至于 I couldn't care more. 就是“我很在乎”(I care a lot.)或 I care deeply. 同理: 8 x' x/ F6 n4 Z# }2 _1 f' i5 f

; T( N9 [9 `" W* y$ z! z; P I couldn't agree more.=I totally agree.(我完全同意)
2 x3 j* v/ G2 _) M: Y- Q6 Q
1 d# l6 Z6 F9 T, W( l2 X0 V( b8 F I couldn't please you more.=I did my best to please you.(我尽量使你高兴)
: B# \. i; }6 P: t! |! n5 o
( w) T" n4 X9 p/ D% I+ _ I couldn't be more right.=I am totally right.
, n" _% I+ i" ?! e+ }" [: l1 a# E7 k7 L

5 W! l5 T( h8 `9 U9 @7 t I couldn't be more wrong. 5 q4 P) x1 S  T, X5 `8 D4 e
7 {6 q( K4 [4 {6 V) N
5 M1 J4 I9 x" [5 u0 b3 W

# E* M* u; y  P 不过,严格来说,I could care less. = I care to some degree.(care 的程度可能减少)
* T9 Q& P" d$ f0 s/ `
) g2 W( I  V  ?, v I could care more.=I care some.(care的程度也许增加)(主词可用任何人称代名词:he, she, you, we, they 等。但只用 could,不用 can。) 9 R  p3 h0 l6 q) C- X* Z5 `0 X3 n& c! w

+ ^6 j3 k  g8 C* _2 g 2. No bones about it.
# V8 t  w3 G; ]4 f) \4 h1 A( M- k
  意思是:真实的,诚恳的(truly, sincerely or exactly),也就是 to make no bones about it.(bone 要加 s, it 是指 something)例如: 2 |! f/ E+ ^2 S' N

. P" [7 G3 Q/ Y His wife is beautiful;no bones about it.(他的太太真是很漂亮) 3 k- Y& L9 ?8 M% {, V5 Q" e

- n! V3 C# j! a4 }5 e0 G/ t Mr. A made no bones about it when he talked about abortion issue.(当 A 先生谈到堕胎问题时,他是诚恳的。)
2 V9 q8 h) I+ J8 u9 r: w" o9 z0 i5 ?5 {+ A
  When I spoke on the topic,he said, "No bones about it."(也就是他同意我的看法) 3 G& N9 Q) Z' c! V" P2 I

! a8 G& n. e7 u+ m  m No bones about it;the weather is very chilly today.(今天是真的太冷了) 6 A- l- d7 X1 L4 q
7 f+ g# w: s1 Q# A
  3. take it on me!
& P" ~7 U1 G, u( o) T& ]- W& ]6 ~
  意思是:“这是我的,请用吧!”“这是免费的”(help yourself to it; it is free),这多半是指吃的东西或一些不贵重的东西。例如: - p% o! y7 ?' {0 R7 u$ ?
0 _- W& j/ R9 P9 s% x
  Here are some candies from England; take one on me. (one = candy) ( _/ V" E* }4 I  G

  K4 [1 s: h4 o) u! T* s2 R The restaurant owner said to me, "Take the dessert on me." - W  k# {2 u' Z, ^  [8 m8 J
) {$ a' ~4 n7 Z4 S; }! d1 z5 v
Please take these pencils on me.(取用一些我的铅笔吧!)
6 U. }$ j( V3 H% I# \* h: \  ?* j4 ^# A4 W, T8 o
0 c. ?( K9 S8 t9 t4 t3 ]0 y; M0 U, e" O0 g2 d
  (假如夫妇在一起,也可以说:Take it on us.) 3 E% i+ z( L4 A- p: v& g
- k2 D' F+ e2 N8 ?# v9 w
  4. I am from Missouri. ! h% }) W$ p2 @0 E9 v! k& o2 B5 B/ T

  s/ x. G, G% h; B/ p 这句话有时后面要加一句:“I need to be shown.”或“You have got to show me.”,意思是 Missouri 州的人很固执 (stubborn),不太信任别人,一定要人家证明一下(prove it to me),所以密苏里州也被称为“The Show Me State”。
9 q: e1 z8 e8 X1 c, S) o# M6 c0 \* l. P+ e( O2 X
, h, @* V2 {, U9 b; Q2 \. V! v
/ {% l0 S" P: R" ]# a- ^ He is not easily convinced because he is from Missouri. + c6 q* d$ R( @- X8 ~  n

* t7 w. e( N" R9 I% H1 v  Don''t try to fool me; I am from Missouri.(You have got to show me.) (别愚弄我,我是来自密苏里州。) + M! Z  n% b. b$ K+ |0 A

, }. T' h9 L/ } We are all from Missouri; we need to be shown.
0 A. w* O# p+ G1 _$ f7 A6 ?0 C' Y8 @  y
As Mr. Smith is a tough guy; he must be from Missouri. (Smith
