Insurance required

( t4 Q: b! ?2 G2 C9 N$ UExcept as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall

(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor

# E2 C" z( p0 p8 f3 l4 G) L(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,

' Z) R9 R! D, t9 n+ a(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or0 J0 a* C) H5 V
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
* X% j6 P! J+ x4 Q: @( Qunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;8 k: ^! U% z; P. Q
(d) give or lend a financial

7 ^, m5 Q, G- X' A& a K+ FIf a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway) c& L. Q5 m1 `9 r4 b3 Y" T
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of# w8 M4 ?; w1 l2 k ^# w# q
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection9 r# m+ O- g( V- L( T; s
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is+ A: k# ]2 {( d( ^( C4 H
not an insured motor vehicle.) v6 Y, l \, Y+ }- J

Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this

Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a# v/ `: X& q G
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the4 p6 B/ I, ~) B! s' e+ j
Insurance Act" h& `2 J4 B" p8 X8 A
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
9 J) a F6 y$ _2 p' Ooutside Alberta.
1 J* n+ n8 m) U0 G$ l( ~. ~4 W(4)# e; a+ R! n- k9 C3 W8 p# P( U; s: J
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection6 M6 ^9 a% i8 v4 ?! s
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,& O1 J3 E# @7 E5 H9 p3 N
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
" ]2 _5 B( S- b2 _7 L! ^and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to, b; Z% v% J% `
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
6 T) W7 S* D" N3 ]. c% amore than 6 months
