(1)! B7 W5 B& O- ~. g" F1 W t! U
Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
1 ?- ^* c" i" ?& T8 Xnot do any of the following:4 L8 i" f6 u- [, a
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
, m1 m" I2 J9 @% H, l7 G- i2 ovehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
4 Q5 f% J& d; N) I(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
. g$ n; D* l6 Mvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
( d7 V+ }- {7 V- x(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
8 T9 r) |, `6 j4 b8 L' A' epermit another person
* L3 }0 n+ U- u, W! B(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or. u0 G) j( U& A% r& b+ C
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway," y# }4 `2 n' O% Z$ d1 i" D0 H
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
- w$ @0 [) f+ _3 ~6 E( T(d) give or lend a financial" A# Z N9 n( h; r3 K8 F4 ~, ?
responsibility card or a copy of it
% V; C$ m9 w" L9 pto a person not entitled to have that financial3 F) ^# W1 c+ V3 r
responsibility card or copy.
% W& F. O1 }$ f( m( o% N/ n9 P% A(1.1)
J. z& k& Q! Y/ Q3 U( ~2 V) ?4 aIf a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway* E7 Z+ j& z- A: E! u
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
( h# h1 k0 Z' U6 N3 O tthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
2 ?; U. E$ r. ~" p( r6 U' ](1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
8 Y- W3 K! |, q$ F- f- rnot an insured motor vehicle.

; N, m/ o9 b) iIf the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this
8 D2 d8 c! O* O& O; {9 X3 ]Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this
# I- @8 x9 \! k- e& Q4 S% Ysection.

6 b0 X, ` {" U7 ^& ~Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
7 b/ F9 `2 A; ]# ?7 D# Ufinancial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
6 `0 j. _- E7 ]# OInsurance Act! _ }7 N8 u3 O
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy) ^) L: ^& P/ _$ G
outside Alberta.
+ U/ L- j5 Q# U( E1 C2 X(4)
8 [9 z' O$ W' R2 |& Q+ i9 CA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
/ `, ^3 i. _: X. I: X(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
4 I4 t% r( z2 G+ ~1 ^(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
2 Z% q) _9 a9 E4 ^, p! a9 tand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to5 i- ]/ J1 D6 a9 r
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not7 e; z5 q0 s9 a
more than 6 months

Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
