" I# ?0 J _! i uExcept as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
0 O) t1 B( \; Q8 k" xnot do any of the following:
+ C4 a8 `8 V1 _" F# F(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
7 G: m8 E9 }0 v! t9 ?vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
/ w1 g: e5 l! x5 Y4 k' C(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor0 y- V' {8 r2 x' K
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;8 @' P# D9 s1 A$ K8 H: n
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,' a% d2 _" g& s9 I2 W: I. _- F
permit another person
" }' [) X6 g. O* F* [(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or1 p5 q9 _: C8 M. l7 H* i
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,2 u' h+ W0 V5 r& C
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;, E7 ]7 J. w% K- @) J; {
(d) give or lend a financial0 r* s4 Q9 H- X! W* u
responsibility card or a copy of it3 w# f( i8 ~* X2 m2 B
to a person not entitled to have that financial
) S, @% [5 y! oresponsibility card or copy.: V$ m, q& u3 P# ^7 L- X

If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway6 Y5 L' F; M5 Q- P, s2 w# G1 B/ Z
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
# A& R( ~% Y5 k) x' L+ [/ s2 f5 ?" Jthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
G2 {3 u; {& u! g6 p8 h2 F(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is& l$ p( q# w3 f
not an insured motor vehicle.

4 c: F% J6 M& ~" J1 pIf the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this' \$ E. n* K2 b" Y/ e4 t" c- s6 p8 c
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this( ]. i$ `$ Y; L5 E" A

5 ~! W$ v J8 hSubsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
% `7 P+ }7 l/ A! gfinancial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
& M% Z% X! _7 }Insurance Act$ ` x2 m! i7 \( y& q) q- m! ^& i
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy( q8 U& M; d/ H* i# p' j; H
outside Alberta.
9 s& i9 Q2 V7 V6 j(4) M6 G) ~- X' r! v* P1 K6 x* |5 q
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
, I" a/ [4 i; O+ h3 k(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,* ?1 v1 s8 n( [* k
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500. V) n Z. F( ^& s8 h' U+ ^- v
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
7 h( \ v9 j, I7 T' R! |2 Q8 i) s8 c8 Eimprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
: }# m5 m& Q6 y8 i$ ymore than 6 months
! f9 u- h, ~& g0 u: C! T: K' D1 `, G8 L7 ]
Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
