Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall. X3 m0 ?" Y' ?2 n! ^# e' {
not do any of the following:
! H$ ~5 r/ Z l! O( u( p& S(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
7 y, w8 }/ i2 X5 J, T' B" U c( g4 I7 pvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;2 ^! O% I2 Y/ V+ o( W5 c, h
(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
; m! r, V H/ ?vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;5 M" N3 p! w$ {8 K. e
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,1 { q! ^: D! ?. _2 @
permit another person5 F. p) o8 h% _! K) M+ V
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
3 L( s, Q0 u4 v0 `(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,, x6 _3 a' t8 n3 k) [- F" Z7 z
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
* D, `+ L; u2 H, j# g7 \' a& q. s(d) give or lend a financial4 q4 c/ |0 [8 h
responsibility card or a copy of it; o: P: Y2 g# M0 O
to a person not entitled to have that financial
# i6 t/ R+ b1 J' Q# xresponsibility card or copy., f x; A J) h0 X9 b

If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway$ n9 s" O# L5 q# C6 P# R
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
& O O0 t9 i! W5 T. s+ B5 jthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
) D0 d: J. ?& [) y(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
9 S3 I' s7 }. g& k0 W, w, O$ unot an insured motor vehicle.8 s1 [. Z6 u" U8 Q N4 `4 W+ B

financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the

by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy }& Y: h% @0 x9 |3 z! ^" O
outside Alberta.4 O& p3 }. j- m; b$ Y9 ^

1 s- Y$ W1 l' |+ SA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection2 V& y6 m. b& a* t6 [
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,: h! T, }7 \. f0 U2 D9 a- Y
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
* G1 j, E0 s1 r2 r4 oand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to, P- ~4 M: r o( S# G& `0 n
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not4 `9 f+ ]' P* \/ w, J
more than 6 months
