Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
4 v8 Y: w2 ^. g( knot do any of the following:
" x* o: l4 e1 |1 j! Y% S, R(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
5 m" c/ G4 u, }, E( Uvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;' O& u: f5 x2 c# z/ p- Y, A+ s
(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor6 i+ Z+ Q8 R! {: W. O: d" v
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
/ S" e9 S6 v: D! I(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
% P0 W+ \; }7 R, v) n* kpermit another person8 P& t. i' N) m: g
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
1 U( r j3 U3 T5 p }& m' o0 ^) J' ?(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,8 d8 F* g% Y8 m4 n' O" B
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;9 E5 U+ e9 v& ^
(d) give or lend a financial
; Z) D) `- f& S4 R0 q# }+ M/ ]responsibility card or a copy of it
0 e% z2 j5 Y5 W2 oto a person not entitled to have that financial2 q* u# i5 K6 d3 s! C. o0 C
responsibility card or copy.

If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
- }: P/ `" a2 T; n3 V2 i% kwithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of4 Y# k, _* a( A" p) _' a, ~
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection6 W, Z) x5 C* D7 U
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is3 z* ?2 y9 @ O. O* r$ m' a9 Z: L
not an insured motor vehicle.1 n/ J- g8 u7 O0 |

If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this
J/ P" ^8 R. a J/ |Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this5 W- O5 ?- W+ J& Q

Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a. ? ^' b$ E, X( b5 o# {3 f
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
& c* `7 ?1 ^/ ~( fInsurance Act6 G* k% W9 |0 V4 ]5 w
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy6 o8 W5 J( R* s" A" S
outside Alberta./ E6 ?; ^& O6 V

3 V4 r1 L6 n5 N, F2 J: g5 H5 J% mA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection6 q, \8 S. R/ s6 |& L$ D, L% m
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
" L+ w) X4 S" t+ J; _(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $25009 X G5 I M$ l- w* m# j8 b
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
8 w4 t; t9 O7 k/ x+ bimprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
$ C$ S6 N* c- Z. v# g. kmore than 6 months

Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
