Insurance required

Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
& _- }8 P' K C. r+ {) a" R" bnot do any of the following:
% l, K+ `5 b! J% e/ }; O1 u2 z1 { V(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor' X+ G% d6 d V3 b
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;5 P" L1 U* [* ? ?, P
(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
) m2 ?% [$ h0 z( {1 Rvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
4 Z2 V+ F+ x& ~. u' o(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,' J1 ^* k/ _" E$ B: n7 s4 z
permit another person4 \/ B% h; q' P9 ]
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or0 `% [1 b5 Z: s2 `
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,: y+ p% L4 w% r) H4 Y$ `
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;

responsibility card or a copy of it
0 u" h9 A9 p# F5 rto a person not entitled to have that financial$ x% _. F4 w3 s X' u0 @2 o' k# T
responsibility card or copy.3 O/ o& l6 H# R" W6 k$ g

If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
. r( c, ?6 e- o; m; S/ ?, Ewithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
5 `* e5 k' W! J4 u3 W' @" N) ?the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection0 u3 {: u. a2 Z; ?: r' ~6 l
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
4 \1 V' P* j; u$ } O, ^not an insured motor vehicle.

If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this5 c' h+ |, ^2 v
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this

Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a6 T* h3 o; b/ D# j- [2 s
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the/ F0 P5 z' a6 a9 o; p
Insurance Act
* J! s) p+ x4 B* Q7 J7 Xby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
7 q1 L+ f/ y* ] Y3 O3 h) k1 M: eoutside Alberta.3 x; P0 S/ h) Z2 {: {7 l% g
(4)) a C" Q# j/ d3 e" g* g6 w" [
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection. H& G6 ?. c1 Y0 }+ a: ^
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
: r+ H" q7 Z) E- ~5 y(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $25005 S5 }1 `: o. N; \1 M
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
. U O4 [% Q: zimprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not) E% ~ g5 ?* ^# a7 b9 `
more than 6 months

Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
