Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall9 P, i! P% g5 M: W1 ^$ Z
not do any of the following:
M, K2 Y6 p& z(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor- m' I/ \6 l9 l) G! M+ V
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;7 H; M# |1 K# M; H# q% i& i
(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor5 ?1 H/ s3 L: m. j2 Z
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;; u( W4 ?3 G. q- g
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,# X, j: Q5 Q' L2 r- B
permit another person5 \6 A0 T& A) [
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
9 V% K% e) K0 a: G& `(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,+ R/ [* M8 M* {
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;+ r. U0 `1 C( ]# I
(d) give or lend a financial
- Z6 b& G- F. W1 c) yresponsibility card or a copy of it3 ~9 ^8 D0 t4 L
to a person not entitled to have that financial
! e' _7 T$ E( f+ aresponsibility card or copy.

If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway6 b8 _4 O' l2 X+ V
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
* }9 i4 F+ @! Z1 v4 _1 Ethe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection* A3 w2 {) Y) t8 r6 ^4 q
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
3 S8 @% W* S% Bnot an insured motor vehicle.4 h, d* h8 @% h3 q+ r" }3 F" d& }

% M( M g H, g8 c; D o& o% rIf the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this
& x% `5 _# R3 Y) C% P# u8 [& EAct, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this

9 a- m8 ^/ L! j; v* k' ?; ~Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
* U" B: f5 ]1 _financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the6 r* U, h, a& Q
Insurance Act$ [5 O! n& `5 I9 n6 C9 n# h
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy0 X$ ?: C9 Y. w: H- }
outside Alberta.

9 {/ Y& o# d" h4 G$ dA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
, u$ L B3 g3 W: Y3 Q* o9 K! l(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,& o5 B' o3 M0 z/ |2 |
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500- p8 z- t. |5 E, v9 E# l
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to* t) z/ H7 o, O* k, J& U1 n
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not# T( k. u) b) ^9 m" C
more than 6 months

Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
