(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
! p$ C u4 ]% m1 _6 @- s/ {vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
5 D) _+ l, T+ `' f(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
C3 A3 }( G2 B" Kvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
, A1 Q# U4 h1 S" F2 L0 m# o(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle, X4 ~2 ?# |% t
permit another person! ] T6 U3 E7 n) K
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
& `+ K* k' t( S" p- |(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
7 e6 J7 o" H: u' U: V% h/ Sunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
) F5 H( d& ?5 W; \, T7 A) G(d) give or lend a financial
: `2 ?1 I$ E& L* oresponsibility card or a copy of it
% b6 t, L4 l* c4 h4 vto a person not entitled to have that financial

! u8 k# l; ^" c; D5 A! |If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway2 I* N( y* u! Q
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
2 x4 p" f' R5 T1 m k( mthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
& z0 a; F$ \+ W(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
( N& ^5 ?/ K7 [) D9 K$ j# ?) h" x9 tnot an insured motor vehicle.4 {! T. p( }, \! C, n( w# |& e

If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this1 X/ b( W v" _5 W7 x
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this' J, l6 q0 D! F9 M: f: n* I
section.

: k3 v0 T* F* [5 H8 cSubsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
" N& r; |5 D* p! `, Hfinancial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
/ e5 }! T5 C6 F# k7 Z8 v2 G, IInsurance Act1 {: V9 [1 ~+ G, q+ O2 E
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy9 R" h+ M! @6 b6 v* P
outside Alberta.
; j8 @* d% [ K4 x(4)
+ K2 a; H- G2 c. {: HA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
( l: i1 Y: u- ]7 `* V* s" U/ ^(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,) v2 [ Q, Z( B* Y$ `, }
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
: \$ G7 r7 s4 B9 Zand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
+ y) h1 L% U+ L: qimprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not- p" S# b) ~2 ^3 m+ r
more than 6 months
