& q: i' x! c& ` FExcept as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall8 e' d( `2 o. v, W4 z3 \$ _0 y
not do any of the following:. R& A3 M. \* i4 U. A& |
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
0 V5 i4 o3 N# }4 |vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
9 N3 j6 C% f9 f# X& |& m(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor5 U: ^; k) o0 l0 n1 L' B
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
$ d. C5 ^, F( Q' v6 d(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
: h6 @! c$ K6 D/ e) F* g/ vpermit another person4 R, f6 D: A" g0 l1 j
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or0 V7 l0 T' Z- R, J/ ^
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,0 N1 L' |* |0 B0 R% G8 g
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;7 v: `: `( K- ? t f$ |
(d) give or lend a financial
, W( v8 U0 z! Y/ Q7 wresponsibility card or a copy of it5 ]5 Y0 J" |4 f/ L1 C
to a person not entitled to have that financial
& m6 h" W0 E8 v0 W. iresponsibility card or copy.

without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
. _0 c, s4 z% Athe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
# a: q- ~. R: G1 g(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is) `4 W- v# Q* s. V# X9 X

Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
/ m/ u$ N( ]- N+ X/ |( z- n+ Sfinancial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the% q& L; G( C8 e& z6 t3 ~# J7 a \
Insurance Act
% R; g/ ]; G# B! N3 F& U: l( r# Iby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy, B3 i5 u( f3 U; P0 [4 h# q
outside Alberta.
( R" q8 K7 Z' ~, f# n- y5 V(4)0 N0 l$ ?% t$ C% [, f% s
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection5 i- i, y5 t, B! R' w1 t6 l
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,- |2 T' u7 d8 S# _2 S
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500) v+ Y( d% h9 C7 h+ b4 \
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
1 y; k4 n8 |3 K: a7 ~8 t$ L2 nimprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
% g9 z0 n: }3 [ X1 U- {more than 6 months
' V* c. c3 e$ o: KMinimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
