Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
# W) J. j% u3 @( `not do any of the following:1 q1 ]$ l/ ~6 ?9 x
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
1 D2 k/ W; [' ` Evehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
v# V) i. q" W5 V+ }/ ^8 h(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
0 H) E. A) |+ D& ]- X1 d7 I* ovehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
7 N; q0 @7 g% V d8 E1 V0 d(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,) U2 u9 j% \" ^2 f
permit another person
7 \$ j, O- M0 ?% G(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
4 u* K* H8 Y5 D1 }/ t; T(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
- n9 l: S0 y( y; e8 j# Uunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
5 A: R# M/ r. I& X4 N' A2 D(d) give or lend a financial; T+ j. f0 T4 } t
responsibility card or a copy of it
2 P+ W, \+ S5 o' ?to a person not entitled to have that financial$ g" _7 z) y* ^8 X) i7 g) a
responsibility card or copy.7 G6 x$ V5 T- }: b* }+ W
(1.1)* h2 u, E; |, n; A8 h
If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
5 t" w! x, k; M0 Q5 n, g" \' L+ Kwithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
4 O) e @9 l3 }2 Ithe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
! N u, q2 _$ Z(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is6 R6 {+ B% E J* |: N% b
not an insured motor vehicle.6 u( t- B( ?- _' I" X9 ~" ?
(2) H o2 U8 o, b1 J% j0 r; X
If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this2 S: g* Z0 y4 T; a8 H. Q4 a
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this
: g% @1 L. g, p* _- c! \) ysection.

- z; X( }( Q; k; ?" m9 wSubsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a9 b7 s- b7 q; \1 U+ M: q- R
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the% E& O a" g# V4 ^2 h+ E
Insurance Act9 U5 C+ X1 x$ H/ c: h9 e
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
; A/ b4 B& I4 T! v5 p# S% s& n- Z. Loutside Alberta.
( A% c& a- I0 `; y, E(4)4 u7 i* F8 Q" C7 s( V q- I) H
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
2 {: O# O0 f3 W: I' W(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,6 G4 I& L. m$ f# N: J
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
( j0 H) |" H% q9 X5 L4 f" [9 oand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to6 P0 N% Y4 e, g7 R/ W& e3 l8 U" c2 p
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
0 H7 n9 ?- Z. H, }5 @1 Q; dmore than 6 months

Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
