Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall0 B# C* x2 z n7 @9 ]
not do any of the following:' P( { Y9 K* \, V) o, I% `5 V
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
; {0 E7 w9 p* _( u3 Ivehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
6 E- P" a% d, s# l. F(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
9 k' Q) k2 t% p. H4 k. t0 m# Ovehicle is an insured motor vehicle;4 Y$ \' B: j- f
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
: `5 A5 }( L8 B3 C3 ?4 lpermit another person
- u( V: R/ t( `, u' v5 G% m( E(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or" H# X1 F" v6 [+ A/ [7 c0 y& ?
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
; n: A' f7 A# Y; a4 L5 G2 tunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
5 o' f' a# y. }(d) give or lend a financial
: h& q, ~8 G6 P. \/ Uresponsibility card or a copy of it" I! ^! \8 y) U% L" y! s! f7 E
to a person not entitled to have that financial
1 j& N6 G E( Y8 M) p L8 b- G4 Oresponsibility card or copy.

If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
' Q. D1 x& A* _2 i, [without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of" a8 \' D9 X1 \0 F$ W" z3 u
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection$ \) J; Z9 r2 u0 Q, M0 t
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
2 V8 {' }! I8 i( I" B+ ]" {not an insured motor vehicle.( \ U2 Z) u1 D9 O9 P
(2)7 V t+ t4 ^: C" J
If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this3 w4 Y1 z' \/ s7 j [5 z
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this
) l- L0 a& h ^, Z& ^, vsection.
; n) F. G5 J ?4 | Q0 |( Z+ H) S(3), m( k/ H! v, p: k/ [+ b2 P
Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
: X+ e( O1 R7 E7 hfinancial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
. `& T) ^5 ?% k3 n; pInsurance Act% _( D) [4 x# N# I/ g
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy" B& i0 A# Q# q8 ^: D, w
outside Alberta.2 d# N0 K; a: m
(4)# R- A* f' C7 C9 C6 v! ?
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
7 c- ~3 y$ S0 H* U. \) y8 o! }(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
+ ^- Y. ^2 y `" R' i(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500* x/ A- N+ U e' e
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to: i& c" ]0 e; v; Y
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
* C5 R6 e9 e- J$ r) _more than 6 months
* V1 T; y8 X& |) `; H
; x r. m0 p, |2 B2 o2 QMinimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
