not do any of the following:# W. Y4 d( _+ a% K6 C
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor7 \" ]" d, Z! P7 J
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
1 L% T" q/ I, \; Y8 h2 h(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor8 n2 n) n0 I* [/ Y# H% R
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;8 O# i! I6 _& |- t. T
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
0 l: Z' ]5 s$ |/ |/ {9 l6 Wpermit another person/ F* e. ]+ t2 A. y
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or7 |7 X+ O/ j# j# m! o* O" Y( k
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,* a+ n% B1 A; h5 [5 D& Y' o( F
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
( V7 N9 c' A/ H2 N(d) give or lend a financial! E7 h U1 W9 U- U
responsibility card or a copy of it: M! k" Z1 a% f0 o& R3 [% I$ x: `) t! c
to a person not entitled to have that financial* P5 j* i% s# A4 Z9 x, m! @
responsibility card or copy.

( \* V8 A3 N AIf a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway: }6 H% _% T/ }+ \1 q4 t
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of& E M- L) K8 N+ f! B' d0 j
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
3 Q: o; `3 x# [% {6 V(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
' `$ e) o; A8 U1 v- Cnot an insured motor vehicle.! y9 a( b9 b& f [1 b

Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this- s, }$ L0 p" t% d( h
section.

Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a9 Z7 A. f. W0 [# J
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the! j6 m6 |( K5 y2 X# T$ Q. B* Q
Insurance Act7 o- {# `* \7 s$ Z/ h+ A
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy% H$ F0 X0 u) b0 ^; {
outside Alberta.
# X$ Y7 \' y# w+ K7 j(4)
# O, @1 `8 B- T/ j/ \* UA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection, S4 G1 a1 { p" K- k( |5 O3 E W
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,4 Y( L, Q; f- ?! v- r K
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500 d f M$ f: X8 ^( e( W) N
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
7 L8 u* [' K F' v5 Cimprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
3 W( S+ P/ j: a# W9 P1 M' ~$ f7 Xmore than 6 months
1 ~# g5 C8 P" Y
Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
