Insurance required

Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
4 x9 \$ z5 @, R0 z6 F' D3 ]; @4 Gnot do any of the following:
; C. c7 g$ {- M4 D(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor4 n2 V. R5 v1 c# i/ R5 c# l
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
# ^! I/ ]1 _" z* s! ^(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
/ C9 H: D5 H- F. b; J4 H1 \9 ]vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;5 Q& L- M) Q1 f* s
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
5 q, e4 @: N( h2 y; \- H1 dpermit another person
$ s9 r- m) U- ~; {(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
1 x0 Q% v& T7 ~: }% u(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,) d. \* F! H9 k2 o. w
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;1 t" B0 I4 L# z. E+ p+ g- n, t
(d) give or lend a financial+ j( r" }3 Y1 L' S/ l/ Q
responsibility card or a copy of it
6 s) I! x( L) [/ B3 ~- Hto a person not entitled to have that financial, m8 Q: l. k$ O q/ |+ E
responsibility card or copy.

If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
% {( U) o5 M% [" [without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
2 x) x# w5 m1 Q- Vthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection" p2 h: P3 p, U$ D( {0 {
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
5 Y/ _" A- b3 G0 s) V8 Unot an insured motor vehicle., D# m# f/ c7 } {# M! H# m+ U4 w

If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this% b. d' n1 U3 ~' w, Y/ c
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this( |8 `* E$ r- Q: @& N+ |% O4 G* g: k

9 Y+ h& w. p% i3 ISubsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
) U/ y+ I- v3 K+ P* @+ Jfinancial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the6 Q0 b! E+ E/ B, x- K5 G% g7 R m) ~
Insurance Act
- ]" G% `$ D2 Fby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy, P% o" @1 F5 D) E# g
outside Alberta.1 U% N: _& E; d/ T2 n
(4)5 w( f i9 i: D5 f. ]) S# I
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection5 l0 E! Q8 o; Y) K" F8 V% z4 {
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
% u3 K; W- p: [7 H, r, t8 h(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $25006 ] k2 I) @+ M* E! U' v% J
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
! }8 B! f3 I# _5 ?$ K. ]imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not7 p" K. F# X" j0 ^5 f
more than 6 months

Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
