Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
$ T0 h, \6 e6 _4 d+ X$ ^% Vnot do any of the following:
' h/ Y2 f m9 q/ V(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
8 H( ?: L# A9 Z+ Qvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
$ P3 i( ~9 k1 y/ V2 r(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor( Q/ r* P$ I/ `* H* D4 x
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;2 h+ Y7 j; H z- Q
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,2 c) m* @8 x6 G7 j6 U V8 h* ~& i7 @, Q
permit another person
$ E% N! A/ p2 |! C# i(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or3 O0 L4 g3 b% _+ e# K* L( V8 U4 r, P
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
7 \; w6 C2 H, a* Vunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
+ ]% h b2 i6 M) C(d) give or lend a financial
. E/ n8 y. K) Jresponsibility card or a copy of it
& c; r# B, r4 R4 i' S/ Zto a person not entitled to have that financial
% Q2 t8 [0 R. e: b" _responsibility card or copy.
0 I7 u% `5 I/ g2 O(1.1)) Q# Q6 y6 K# B/ A* F% k5 e/ `/ M
If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway$ |8 ?4 ~2 G; u) e" J- D
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
) }& a9 W+ F2 Y# T: ~1 _9 _# ?the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
( D' ]7 q4 H4 ^- c(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is$ z- B# i) z0 U% |- g
not an insured motor vehicle.

% s* I* n$ ~5 tIf the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this
& a+ c! {7 r; X! GAct, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this1 P* B" w/ J1 M) c9 ] ~
section.! p) S9 ?& w8 ?3 A
(3)" Q' I7 N% m2 E$ V- v1 S
Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
( [+ J2 P' \' C! D& [' mfinancial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
1 Y! k s4 P( p" _$ H, ?Insurance Act Z. [! w. {% {! _1 A. V( D
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
- b* n/ B9 g# k( qoutside Alberta.
& b; t) F5 o# \: r(4): G8 o/ Q& V) c' _) ]
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
/ J1 k4 O+ z& r(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
9 e" ?! B/ L* }$ b(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500# [ E+ }1 ~# G! w; U8 s
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to$ v% ^9 b) K6 v
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
4 ]( M: S( U: D% c$ _" omore than 6 months
6 N3 S! o2 G# _8 z$ x8 D0 ^ U0 x" J) S; `1 n# l. K" w% P/ F
Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
