- a- j, B# t( Z0 J6 e0 O; JExcept as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall0 [' R3 q5 }/ B
not do any of the following:
3 e( A& a! |' K8 ^* d0 W(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
9 @: f$ N' D( D/ H0 [5 A9 Tvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;: x, T8 e# t# T
(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
{: b- z9 D* }8 c- xvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
4 g. [3 H1 E; a! D3 }& L(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
& k; T9 H: c: r( i; apermit another person0 v+ M3 o; r8 h4 c6 x; N& a. m; W
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or5 S0 P3 I" D! S/ H: O6 k& D6 c2 y. m
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,( E# ]3 E Z0 x; |' J4 U& a& b
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
$ y+ z/ I) V W2 L* a(d) give or lend a financial w& f5 z" O6 Q, {( X/ M
responsibility card or a copy of it" p- u$ A3 T0 u: C4 P# Z; r7 w
to a person not entitled to have that financial
2 t. H7 M: f6 c3 _5 lresponsibility card or copy.

If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway" j- ~6 k# U, a
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
. w/ S; F6 r, m4 ~- I: Qthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
) Z' X. g! N, t; G0 O8 N* ~' `% v(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
: A" |$ G* H( s. h9 e1 \, Rnot an insured motor vehicle.

8 m0 V3 c. _5 d; l! KIf the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this
" L4 k: [3 m( \9 y& {' K4 MAct, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this' f7 H# C9 E1 F4 g# W' |9 H
section.
$ Q/ x. e1 O% k# h$ ~6 P# g(3)
' W' K: E$ k- Z; ^, J# ^3 k, }Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a: |, S# L* ]/ O: n x
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
3 |% _: D) P; XInsurance Act' ^6 K/ Y0 [! z) Z/ V- @ \1 r5 z) p/ q
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
& i( ~+ H3 K- v$ N. Q7 s, _+ O# S! Aoutside Alberta.
3 i8 L) q2 x, X) a4 ^(4)) W, u N7 J" g6 T5 T! C' Q
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
8 @7 s( s2 |" k9 I(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,1 r/ L, a9 t- j+ j4 ?
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500" S! {* y7 P; D. y& d
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
" x8 O/ _8 ?8 z0 T8 c# q) a$ simprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not: ^$ _* n. B2 o, x7 ~& g& s
more than 6 months
7 a: D2 F, f R' V
3 I" @4 ~( G. E, Y% fMinimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
