4 M3 J# |! }6 ZExcept as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
' ~+ m; c5 B% S* i: k) p0 Z; Qnot do any of the following:
2 q! `, F$ C% |(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
4 m0 b. ^) v5 {/ E1 [( ^vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
( c' L" {4 p* T5 l/ T+ ^' Z(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor) J' G$ |, L5 S9 x) [5 v+ N
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
. }7 ]; _0 w5 b# F0 d. A(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,% y$ Z+ w# i J! H; }9 } F ^
permit another person. Y( `& T/ w4 M
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or1 Y: w+ }) i: ^! J/ E0 d
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,

responsibility card or a copy of it

the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection& j$ O0 K+ w! h1 O
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is

9 o1 v8 J" R) d" i4 hSubsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
' n5 \, O$ j) dfinancial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
7 j0 L5 f- h4 [; p2 v$ _Insurance Act
+ `. g' s0 [, u2 Iby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy- w' X r6 o- U. Z: S- }& J) u$ E
outside Alberta.: x: Y( a+ n0 c
(4)) b9 S5 @, V4 q; }, [
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection! k; o2 S8 M U; \$ f
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable, n6 a P7 U7 A* H0 C. X
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
1 } p& ~5 b& G/ p% ]# |. P( Qand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to: f& W7 Z+ H+ a( o J
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not9 E) T; u+ p# |8 a* R# a+ o
more than 6 months

Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
