7 ~) C7 J& P2 R! K9 f3 F- A' GExcept as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall

(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor6 l9 C! A, q6 B2 Q" z7 ~* D1 [% c
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
& M% D& n4 A" b7 F' p+ y; E(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor! O# d* ?8 w) s0 {
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;* }8 u) E) X- c+ |, Y
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,: O# x8 H% b; R* b
permit another person: y! r* l! I5 Q8 y# r. K
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or3 C6 b' {. \3 w) g1 I3 A
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
' T7 m* m( f( K$ u4 Yunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;% N, ]) O+ R$ B2 J+ `4 J' r
(d) give or lend a financial
1 u- Q7 J* X. b: \# j5 m% Q0 Q- cresponsibility card or a copy of it ^5 Q8 L/ v. @- D7 \+ o
to a person not entitled to have that financial8 I- D0 _5 w) {4 X2 X& H5 x
responsibility card or copy.
) a# B. r1 S% R0 { z) z" t5 [2 i& r" Y(1.1): S# v4 L+ ?) n
If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
/ g6 t' P1 s. r ^! kwithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of* y/ k; [' o3 P, j) ^; W
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
. ?5 O; J& o4 G$ D! o+ W! x2 a(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
9 s2 R4 \3 }* M& Onot an insured motor vehicle.

# d. O- |2 ~# O5 XIf the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this
; ~' b- H2 z, `: A( l. {6 qAct, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this b9 B6 S1 D% x' J
section.

Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
; N! z! U2 p( }) X5 [3 Z1 Ufinancial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the: X- i( O% O# N
Insurance Act7 b: U/ K( a- `+ L( x9 O
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy, G* m9 a* B9 y+ D+ m3 {: w
outside Alberta.% V8 e/ I6 o3 Y! x$ e
(4)2 `4 T- V3 p, V R
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
2 X( q, O3 g6 X& V, U5 b/ x(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
2 u8 O6 s% J. `. f(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
! b% @9 Z# B& F% v$ e( S. {0 qand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to' b- H c4 F z2 z! ^& X# e4 ^. h3 Z
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
5 t& U& T, O6 a8 w& Hmore than 6 months
. G8 d7 X' d! o0 f; `( I
! p& w4 K$ p1 R% H, B6 HMinimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
