5 x3 E8 L6 z8 X1 U$ U2 k$ yExcept as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall

(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor2 u1 J. ^9 F& j% ~9 K

(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor

: z o1 _! ?3 j(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,: H* ~% y/ B8 } z% }; v' G/ `
permit another person8 \% M0 v& a: o6 L' S
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
" r4 x P h" }& J; f1 I(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway," A+ K2 H) ^3 G! ?
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;

- r9 w1 Z3 _4 uresponsibility card or a copy of it; g" W7 x) x9 ?1 q
to a person not entitled to have that financial
9 @! F4 ]" |& |$ d0 u& wresponsibility card or copy.

If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
6 a0 t' t L+ F7 |without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of; L }* T4 g- r& Y) I C
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
Z# v+ m9 X/ m" S/ {(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
9 z2 s) N* P6 w. s' e, znot an insured motor vehicle.3 R/ n$ B. w6 s* t$ }
(2)8 A. Z- l( I6 ]- O, S; x
If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this, M, J5 r2 A2 G" _! ]
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this Q1 Z! K, j2 Z4 `1 q
section.

Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
- \ S! ]. n: T Pfinancial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
$ X% G& A1 k, o# {Insurance Act
2 c: P! b5 N# U; S- V% A0 d; mby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy. W; s% ^/ K+ ^7 e) b6 a
outside Alberta.) f) I U% ]0 u, {5 b9 y+ }( W* C/ p
(4)
0 a1 \8 R8 T; q! Y; z* z8 IA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection0 `; l4 d$ l1 b6 M$ N# X
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
$ V! ~4 ^" ~7 M# B(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
8 K+ O3 W7 y( _and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to2 G/ q; S- ^; r0 i0 I
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not* ~0 U- c' P8 S8 b
more than 6 months

! Z' m4 l/ n. M6 d$ R& qMinimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
