(1)! R6 l6 y! [- g% z
Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
* Y- I$ _3 r6 [1 ^2 B& Hnot do any of the following:
/ G% V& a+ C- g! ^! u4 R) b(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor: J+ X9 m% R4 O# a
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
! [: _% p, P9 S- M2 V* A; R" _(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
5 D8 P0 r3 t9 J& C2 E* {! ~vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
8 f& E& o& y/ X8 E* w) Y0 z, y. Z(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,/ j: }9 s& H' ], y8 i' m
permit another person |, p1 s* u1 B2 w
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
2 T1 S+ ]9 D$ A6 r(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,) Z, H" \: V* E9 l
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
3 c6 i1 U3 ^; M(d) give or lend a financial
# y% x. }" w- w2 Hresponsibility card or a copy of it
1 K* |* M* E1 J3 Ito a person not entitled to have that financial; e, `" }/ q6 s8 _) m& [& M
responsibility card or copy.' L, n! R6 H* i- p5 p
(1.1)* W6 j: D+ g9 X6 u' ^5 I; R7 i
If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway( p; f* @ w6 P5 X
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
. m9 q" P( U& u& h3 T4 t, I; |1 Lthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection3 L u( T9 ?4 z* P/ k' V
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
, j/ @5 I& O5 p( V# ]" Unot an insured motor vehicle.- j: Q) W) i2 F8 T* ]. e0 ?

$ i) o& O9 m% B# d6 yAct, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this

(3)8 {7 v$ X# Y" p2 |- g- i R# L7 K% M
Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
7 S) c# F6 S8 bfinancial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
4 m0 n6 s0 F0 }, S2 o$ WInsurance Act
- o4 w: o$ f: mby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy* R. m5 A4 k) g0 |0 g+ u7 w
outside Alberta.5 ^ x0 U5 `% |$ r
(4)3 H$ W ~% E3 u. z; H
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection! \3 ~7 d4 R' p4 j2 S2 h* J
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
\4 U, X" A* l5 b1 \/ A8 c6 w(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
/ g7 o5 C! x; s/ mand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to9 V0 ]* I3 W$ |6 g' y" Z
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
b9 L6 ~" Z: B: Ymore than 6 months
3 C- r# r# Y5 C( U2 ^: A5 d7 U5 i# N n* X, G' N
Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
