Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall! C1 W% R/ X' I) A
not do any of the following:
5 Q8 q3 Y# a6 i7 I- j2 P# E(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor* ?# o( }' `8 k" Q. n
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
# i5 x2 D: Y: V. U' @/ x7 f& r. A9 t(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor5 F, O6 t% y/ @: x- a0 @
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
/ Q2 A+ r: {" B' Y" d% `+ C(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,2 V+ J) o- X. A: D
permit another person4 `6 {7 U; b/ ^# z, `4 w6 m9 Q
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or6 q x( ]' ?* d$ ~, s( o
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,/ T$ R' z3 I. c6 ^
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
! {8 B' |; j/ v0 W0 J# M& p(d) give or lend a financial/ D! M9 J$ i3 f; z
responsibility card or a copy of it
7 C1 _2 u u' g, j* \2 Eto a person not entitled to have that financial

without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of0 o l* y" N/ m3 E" L- c
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection7 @) H: W* ^7 ^# W
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is# H( n5 G1 B1 ?
not an insured motor vehicle. L7 y" N E7 Z9 r% z3 N

Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this

Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a- f1 A! T* T* R% n) k
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the3 P* N: E" `3 H, `4 [
Insurance Act! T+ ~& G, D1 k2 }' }0 z% @5 h# s
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
6 {4 X, P" d! h& C0 H+ H. uoutside Alberta.
" m- k# ~& f$ Q( M4 o$ w(4)# S9 S2 y' y1 H# W6 O/ R8 A& p
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection+ h4 k, [4 T- o$ ]' v+ Q( x0 ?
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,9 K7 X7 D V2 i0 l) K& s$ V
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
2 Z. |! U3 _5 @+ F) Z) jand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
+ r7 R9 S7 q4 _# b1 zimprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
) v4 ]( {7 v8 h' `# Fmore than 6 months

Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
