Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall! c9 D' J# a* z# l7 B
not do any of the following:+ e2 W# O+ D* u2 U0 F- U" d
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor5 Y; E& L1 L$ s! E- D
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
8 Q5 d o9 V3 x(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor9 p% x& p* o0 A' p V1 o' Y
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;9 x% ]( {1 c6 s* O' F6 B g
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,. E/ p& s% X2 b* g4 U
permit another person
' Z/ p! }3 L9 I5 Y1 _5 u(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
9 ~( l' @* R4 S3 J3 C3 ?(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,/ { a" T8 q: ~" O3 l- I. `
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
9 m# R6 W5 h- T y, H: I* [(d) give or lend a financial
4 ]3 o. v% w+ A5 Fresponsibility card or a copy of it0 _) z2 |/ D% ]$ _' g
to a person not entitled to have that financial
$ h/ I) K8 N! K' r6 oresponsibility card or copy.
) J, B6 `. P% F(1.1) I* H& ~; D( I p4 ?4 X3 C# X. I
If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway5 A8 a# O0 r- `% C4 H+ I
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
9 G1 _2 {3 J- k# c, g5 Uthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection8 a6 i8 b. F; h$ k& w
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
, ?9 f# ^9 `- M; W' N$ w% @( n0 O' G$ Snot an insured motor vehicle.' a4 s: X2 o2 | i, Z. d
(2). B, Y" ^" r3 |1 c' u
If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this- a* U& W* `1 z7 |) F. o# ^5 k
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this6 r v: L7 J/ p3 j$ W
section.

$ U- J& Y( A, Z: ?Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a1 U( z$ l, i2 y, }+ y
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
- ~; R9 d2 t& s+ h& ~Insurance Act
) v2 U+ U8 D! O- |1 Z* gby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
% T ~% _! @ ?' c& coutside Alberta.$ d1 M" P# D$ q! m: e0 g

% R$ l- w$ }/ g# Q; u5 q8 }( EA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
; X$ C, G; r4 ~2 l9 {4 W(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,! g! D. W1 c( [2 D1 j7 o
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500) Y5 i. W7 `( }' l2 z& @' A8 m/ o
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
; D2 t" A# ?! v6 k1 Z, w' {: Simprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not7 L4 H; L5 b; [/ r4 G& V" d
more than 6 months

7 h( @7 Y i3 b! E& T5 ]" P- XMinimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
