Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
' E8 ^: e8 [. o9 i. ynot do any of the following:
( Z; _5 K( G! O$ @0 G(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor- D' }+ r) P- |4 x
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
& [) z2 N& J' n. f(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor0 R' X/ q9 [, H2 f
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
0 R9 T5 x# C# q6 a& y(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,1 N" M( @; d3 q0 O! r% K
permit another person
9 N0 G1 X/ y; R4 |/ P(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
) A7 B) O# m' V# T0 W(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,6 B% r& Z# n0 g$ }6 a* x4 N3 u
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
. P- F _- _3 R3 b9 r- `- U( a4 y(d) give or lend a financial
+ _( u2 v# k# }responsibility card or a copy of it6 ^0 ~$ W) v' T0 s
to a person not entitled to have that financial. u7 D: w. _0 ]1 e$ c) r
responsibility card or copy.
9 G+ m$ A. O7 X3 G: Z(1.1)0 r3 ?" |# j& q, {; C$ K
If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway) ^. r( x3 C* K% D. t$ y" n0 S. V
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of/ ?& D6 b' x& O% D
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection' G. h7 E/ p$ q% G7 L* S. q: s
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
9 w* j2 b; l2 S7 m3 Pnot an insured motor vehicle.; g E7 _ n+ f% m

9 u4 H* W( @- K; f. c9 XIf the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this8 c) H& t, O6 m; ?( d7 n1 H
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this
' o/ l- C3 E4 Vsection.

5 U' p8 F c; x; p/ nSubsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a! x" R4 U6 r& u- @ ?, V* f9 m' t
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the" W6 P3 L) `" J& {
Insurance Act. }7 B3 C2 [1 w' _: V0 t
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
& W3 y% S; f; Koutside Alberta.
1 u+ |- Z. `5 z# k+ k5 O3 g(4)% L8 ]* ~# d- V) I: F
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection* d! S7 X, g: Q
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
' c& [( g' N5 U; @" p(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
; m+ ^0 I! E; z; Nand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to6 _4 C, E! h$ R
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
' W; }& ~+ d- ^6 `8 n3 pmore than 6 months
8 I2 [4 c8 S7 x, u& TMinimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
