Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall, f+ r5 _, U0 z: s g( f2 ` F
not do any of the following:: }$ U/ a6 f8 n0 K% K+ K- N5 z8 {
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
S. {. R$ B) l, [7 ~. c& f3 B1 @vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
6 O8 y S; d# H2 A" }; u(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
8 d2 q5 F0 H `vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;5 D! x/ t- _/ p6 f/ T
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
( t) X E M8 M* i bpermit another person
- {4 U5 n0 a6 t3 r, ^(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or, p* G3 T2 x2 k3 a8 [: C
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,9 h+ @2 }+ n# k+ b9 Q& I" P6 O
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;! {5 N, T: E6 S' z+ P
(d) give or lend a financial
; U) G- z; }5 Q' Fresponsibility card or a copy of it
6 P9 K5 d. I+ c/ O/ eto a person not entitled to have that financial
# a8 c. x9 A; }responsibility card or copy.6 U/ A$ z+ y5 P/ O# [2 q. \2 L4 A0 v

If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
& i; ` |% Q* O# w7 r& c; Gwithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of$ u* z6 G( Y! ]1 u+ W" k
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
- Y" v% B4 S' t5 X(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is/ C! q0 v+ P, P
not an insured motor vehicle.

Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this% G7 W8 W0 x$ g* |

8 c& o9 q) P( x- t8 p! ASubsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a" B2 A( K" [, d
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
# S+ U' M$ I% S/ W. K9 e) |# D0 LInsurance Act( a7 z& G4 f O; ~& a
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy; M, \4 C2 G, X4 W6 w8 p
outside Alberta.
* i9 S# M' ~! }$ L7 d+ V$ W5 n- U0 g(4)
6 s9 o {- `+ q9 f4 E% CA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection" H& x0 p R- n
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
! C3 ~4 S, \% W7 A5 Q(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $25005 O5 |# {# N) x2 a$ q7 O
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
* a F9 ?+ k$ vimprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
0 `3 d. G% Q, ]+ T. ^: s( ~more than 6 months

/ l4 A4 d/ N% g C- q4 d5 h% pMinimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
