Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
$ l1 @( ?! @1 Z; \4 Pnot do any of the following:
: B& h" Q/ a' R' K' m(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor+ }, _& e# E7 P+ |; q( {1 d$ I
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;+ Z0 j& X1 p& y# ~! w
(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor" M' u) W& Z3 {4 Z% u: [: H1 b
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
9 k" J6 G! q9 \1 |' R3 s8 ?(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
( D6 q# y, D& F* r( j: Fpermit another person
+ D1 i/ j& N5 ^( `9 M# R(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or2 ]* G0 t. q3 C4 p' L
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,. }# j4 U) v) ]# r
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;* @6 l. h! Q. U, k
(d) give or lend a financial
' W' R$ k* o8 l& d cresponsibility card or a copy of it
; V; k8 a y7 J) M, uto a person not entitled to have that financial
% k. x3 e P( ~0 ?; zresponsibility card or copy.
& o% H1 B9 p: K(1.1)# s8 u2 \' g8 \; l2 }" C
If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway; i; W8 o- e: E4 |/ ~5 J1 ?" Y4 v
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of# b. p& Z3 B+ F9 x' B9 e
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
! I/ q! o" _9 A+ l/ X8 c8 M(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
( [9 B9 U4 j& X5 [+ `not an insured motor vehicle.7 Z! O( X' ?: T& i- O

7 m; @$ T: ^2 T6 ^- A- iIf the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this
+ x. x2 F' _) `' ^8 _3 z* B, ~Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this6 Y! H% q; t6 F9 b2 b7 U
section.% H4 } Q' @( ~( k# I( R
(3)( b) x' Q% E/ V
Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
0 M1 X9 i% x) e& B7 C1 Z; Tfinancial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
4 g" A' a/ S1 H; o; ?7 EInsurance Act
- T' s2 ^7 ]- c. K# _+ ^by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy& t+ z n( }5 T* B$ x$ m' _% `
outside Alberta.

4 B& q, S" t5 [' {A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection& C2 u2 k9 Y8 K5 v6 p# y
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
+ [- A3 J7 ^3 n- }, E4 ](a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
- Z. T2 G1 S( p: R( T. _and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
5 G: I" L" J1 ~* k7 b8 dimprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not3 F4 m, [: ~3 Y
more than 6 months

3 k r( ^, {+ Y) AMinimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
