Insurance required

(1), n x8 y) B; b1 Z5 P5 _. y
Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall6 p- f( |/ r9 v U5 d8 M
not do any of the following:3 ^& u5 Y' ]- f
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
9 T1 D+ w1 L" t/ {1 ~$ fvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
( n: \. [! ]' f' B3 H(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
* A# [3 O, x7 Y8 Mvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
9 M }+ L* m4 \& H2 B(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
- u* C5 j& m( s5 g5 k4 x! jpermit another person
" D; K% q( D3 Z0 Y' ~) d(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
7 L6 O7 f( _, W5 H" \(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
( a* v8 f. U6 U2 l' y9 O2 M+ u. Yunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;6 f n S% ]0 o$ ^
(d) give or lend a financial& Y6 f+ O: T& I$ K( L
responsibility card or a copy of it
' o8 e: `$ S- t; `6 Qto a person not entitled to have that financial- {* ?0 W3 R j5 Q, Y/ K, r
responsibility card or copy.! o; U3 C; p% \" ^
(1.1)) p2 a# P6 I9 W c/ m$ w7 o( R$ Z2 l T
If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
6 O s9 a$ k2 F' swithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of0 X5 I2 `) j2 }* J: _4 ?; h
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection& m6 f+ f6 P# b. Y3 H/ X
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
) h$ o" x y( ?" q5 Znot an insured motor vehicle.

: Y- y6 q8 Q) sIf the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this+ @6 `3 j9 `5 D Q+ l0 ]$ e
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this
- T$ d* |' Z( ]6 Y; u* Fsection.3 _: s6 `* k6 [0 S1 f. C
(3)6 p$ x4 o& s8 N
Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
2 f7 l0 _/ n/ kfinancial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
4 M' W4 x( f+ Q# IInsurance Act
8 `1 S5 D; m: ~by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
& K+ }' X0 b9 Xoutside Alberta.
9 t0 y3 L3 s3 C T8 [+ r' H3 A(4)
& Z `( i I" aA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
3 f' o( e: S. O) s8 w$ X( D+ Z(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
% _2 ` B0 L) w(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $25006 C7 k6 D$ Y5 _* X7 r) h8 K
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to2 ~" ]( P$ \" Y( l {
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
2 A! N/ K# ]/ E7 smore than 6 months
1 \3 z! ~$ V# b) bMinimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
