Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall- ], j7 m7 W6 o! p# E. ?6 g" `
not do any of the following:
' f& L4 K4 Q" |( V(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
1 v; i) a& o9 N2 w0 C8 Fvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;, G8 Q. M& A, M; q9 m% k$ e7 j
(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor# V3 {4 V1 ?7 i" C
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;4 v" M5 m! F- l' k+ S5 J
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
s {6 W$ ^9 c" {- }& J3 p4 h& kpermit another person
- L. V, K$ g& A: i& Q(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
6 \; O) i0 F- e7 |(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway, t! S" r; X8 X) [6 A3 B
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;& }: f+ \. m) y) m
(d) give or lend a financial
; U: n. T0 ~2 z9 gresponsibility card or a copy of it, b4 V$ l" n$ D8 f
to a person not entitled to have that financial
# ~( k$ e% }4 g& Q- b0 {, x/ G$ j. rresponsibility card or copy.) L$ i/ o# n. y/ z( N& Y) T

) @" A y4 U2 ?) uIf a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
* V2 ?- z' b3 l" A4 ?5 N9 T% ywithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
f+ N. @4 Y7 Q" ]' c# Vthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection* E6 t) e! ]; o4 q3 O1 y) n7 [) E5 z
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
! m1 m/ [3 G. y k( r8 d% B8 H. cnot an insured motor vehicle., v1 W# Q L: K
(2)8 x' U5 D ?! _ p) V$ }
If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this
$ Y% ^( s: }0 p( C7 Z! [9 h$ @Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this
) C$ Y% [' L1 H0 Q: M0 Dsection.
! e: s; s) u9 ]4 H; n6 I# E(3): @+ j3 B5 T6 R# b1 T
Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
% x- e n$ o. e, B u' Wfinancial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
7 {* f+ g/ Q! x& cInsurance Act F6 Y% W5 Y: D- {, S$ V) q" U0 B
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
+ u3 F1 W1 m( q, f9 n( ?" houtside Alberta., z9 _4 w% V2 c. E

9 M$ R4 i* b3 bA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection. ]9 i) f8 e- c% X
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
7 k7 L" c+ X, {5 R(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500" t7 _7 q. D/ f; I
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
& B, F S; D1 _2 m( j" O: wimprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not1 _, y$ B$ E1 T2 E8 P) z+ G
more than 6 months
1 h" }6 u$ d' s) k' f# q7 h$ ?
Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
