Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall& T0 Y7 N& @6 t- x! c
not do any of the following:: e5 s+ u, D) E/ _
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
% K8 t, R3 U6 _8 Lvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
8 O% R) N& E, x4 a. S& n' b(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor9 H9 s& y$ \- \7 q. u9 F
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;: I/ K# U2 `" z- m
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
2 f0 o+ D0 y, ~2 x, ^2 `. Upermit another person
) y$ i% w1 a0 p- ^0 m1 O+ r(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or0 S3 W( ]- l& C* q
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
+ t5 S# ~* U# }unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;; T0 k/ u9 R: E9 j& S1 L' C
(d) give or lend a financial
2 f1 \# g) `1 rresponsibility card or a copy of it
8 {5 ]" V M1 ?to a person not entitled to have that financial
3 H1 I: m' O* Y2 Q. r+ Hresponsibility card or copy.

1 ^2 P3 e/ b+ p5 eIf a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway3 j: w0 k* S2 \: c5 k6 u
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
7 }7 _) I# H$ c$ C+ }( Tthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
; X8 Z" V: s& H1 L( B7 a(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is

If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this
5 k, o/ W6 Z5 h$ V S/ TAct, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this8 Z% T) m( ?+ o' D

[6 m/ x9 X/ ^: ~2 L; RSubsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
& x8 J( d0 e1 Q/ M ffinancial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
. n9 J6 h( d$ y( cInsurance Act& z7 K% T+ X4 g( t/ a
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy8 g* x: F! B, n& Z; s# k7 b
outside Alberta.
4 _6 `) T6 J( k/ A(4)! K/ ~7 P4 H7 H( ?" @
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection8 }9 J+ Q) _% y& l: h3 [
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,( U* P# D% Z9 J. e
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
2 i0 e7 t* H9 m! g% nand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
) y% F% J6 e& f& L' E) ?) L$ Oimprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not1 C0 L0 F% Z0 x( c3 I
more than 6 months
) J; C9 B6 p% Y% O* r
, n+ l/ j ^/ p5 [Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
