Insurance required

Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall7 ^3 V) U+ m* l/ ?
not do any of the following:$ h( i% e i, V f9 s; o3 u1 o
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
% L$ z8 Y& u2 H# o4 i7 r( avehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
* ]: \; ]& I3 y9 a(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
6 S9 e* f; J: d: s: x) m" t1 J7 l; zvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
2 o4 I8 k' s6 H(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
! w6 `4 b! A) a+ m0 Z1 Epermit another person
4 g7 w) K8 V. h9 c(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
0 K$ d8 U9 g* i# [* W* S' {(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
5 Z6 V! Q4 B) hunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;* D5 R$ ?4 Y9 K8 k, ?/ X0 S
(d) give or lend a financial# ?7 m0 H& h0 M* f/ Q
responsibility card or a copy of it" J2 ^9 |- [5 W! m0 s8 m( G
to a person not entitled to have that financial, }) G1 w3 S, C7 z/ s+ {3 V
responsibility card or copy.5 g0 T2 E* Z/ }8 k

0 p1 p5 E) x' L* rIf a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
* n6 E2 D; F, x4 Hwithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
9 x) d1 i- M6 Y2 ]( H* sthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection4 c% B/ c) b9 S$ {) d
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
( u* p" Q$ d/ M* k$ G5 ynot an insured motor vehicle.2 o, o4 @7 E+ {1 a5 p! \/ S: a( U

Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this% u' }% X0 s3 f% M7 Q; O

% \5 L; `2 }$ `% WSubsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a# ?- |9 f& W) e L; v' t4 ?, I
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
; V6 V4 z2 n9 {3 m' DInsurance Act
. I; q6 [; z* z7 E8 b8 Y: _8 oby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
4 S) F( T# ^! s" L6 n; Boutside Alberta.
3 D8 U' U3 M& }9 b4 T" k# v(4)" d+ Z2 }% G; h4 ^- F J( j/ h
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
' g# ~) b! f3 O5 ](1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,$ o! s9 U4 D8 d& K/ o; l# R6 i; T
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
* f" J+ P+ j% p5 q N( Q- `and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to D1 U$ ]& |# x( z
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not, m' a' _6 J' S3 S2 p2 Q
more than 6 months

- u4 o- w* H. T# N1 _- e, h& q5 ^4 uMinimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
