(1)
$ W9 K% |! B5 R4 F6 M2 AExcept as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
" y' ?0 }- u; E; B- z0 Inot do any of the following:8 u) u1 Q0 n/ l; P2 k' i+ q: C5 Z
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
+ \9 T- L* F# [vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
2 S% e; L) M- H3 i9 R4 \4 _: O(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor p; H1 {" Y" r8 i& d% H
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;3 U& j, f0 n4 X% k
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
9 K2 L& p7 K7 q6 x2 Vpermit another person7 a% Z$ r' {+ X3 n2 G3 R
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or$ ^ ^. W& ~9 ?$ T
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,2 A; n7 _+ [5 ? G! J( N s
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;7 y+ v y- G. [3 k, u3 X
(d) give or lend a financial
. t1 T' ~; w' g1 M* K& P0 k Nresponsibility card or a copy of it
3 Z7 l7 \' L8 Y9 w8 Mto a person not entitled to have that financial9 F( ^- ]8 O; _- S& O
responsibility card or copy.

" P" S. L* ~& G& Q6 @If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
* Q% l+ F+ f: A; ]4 `' w( {! rwithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
" Y6 j) N. C% L* l0 A9 Tthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
' M5 @: R8 s1 B/ ]* n(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is

2 Y. L, M$ g1 p8 r9 h$ l* P; VIf the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this6 ^0 X& r7 U5 m5 S5 K0 @, K: J
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this {4 q) A2 \* i* T& D6 z0 ~
section.

, b; m9 Q7 w2 n9 O6 ~( e9 o9 [8 PSubsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a! [5 P% o G, h, ^- U- a" l
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
- |' a4 g% t' } x. ^* g0 ^4 H+ QInsurance Act% Y F5 I( K2 c, Q X" U
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy- T* l- F7 D2 Y% c
outside Alberta.' ^/ ]8 `0 I" U( q

4 `/ z: M% n% rA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection7 l6 S) N8 `) V
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
+ I! H$ S( H5 `( s9 `(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $25003 s) P8 A y/ j' F v% e
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to: ]9 H7 W( B3 E
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
8 {/ i" N! r' @9 k9 Xmore than 6 months
; B" U# _* Z: J& }3 V: l* n
Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
