(1)
1 g& k7 B# f+ k( _% CExcept as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall5 n; P+ `, z1 O
not do any of the following:1 Q9 z1 T& E+ Z8 K* o
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
) Q% \$ |: g$ O7 D2 Evehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
^$ S: N! R/ x% @+ M: e) n(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor# C: h# p$ O, ]' a
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;! ]4 o; `% S' @% o+ i4 K0 G9 O7 q
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
9 s% H: {, U7 M( v4 Ypermit another person
# k3 S! d- p0 ?+ H0 G(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or& R5 W2 H3 z* G/ D2 f$ z
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,+ \# E1 [6 s9 Z' j2 [
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
; n8 F9 J* U: R(d) give or lend a financial
. ]8 q. A* k% Rresponsibility card or a copy of it( w6 j- N9 L: }- U
to a person not entitled to have that financial+ J6 k. ^! g- d6 S" B- c" T
responsibility card or copy.

% S2 U6 _; M+ A1 v' Z: B6 _; `If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
1 n$ v( A2 t. W v6 g' ]% U+ Y7 K4 zwithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
8 m5 b( W8 ~+ U% e- `4 ithe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
5 j% D# p" P0 ~3 x, i0 ](1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is P2 u. c. S6 F; C
not an insured motor vehicle.1 N: ]0 Q. {% G; A1 J, g
(2)( _4 s& b9 D* B% N2 z7 A
If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this
) f0 F$ E, `$ Y1 t/ R4 z5 L2 `Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this+ e7 _+ Y8 O" V
section.
6 L; y5 N& G/ d3 p/ R1 e1 f3 L(3)( `8 U' L/ H0 P' Z# {
Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a* x- t6 V5 Q5 {: L, R* N
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
8 [3 n% N9 v5 G. V/ k! YInsurance Act
k; r9 W" v6 k* Aby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy) G8 A5 U: E/ Q
outside Alberta.
3 ^5 o& P' d6 s1 c& T' ?, n1 u7 a- A(4)) v0 g% Z8 ^' u, D
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
, ?8 F, H$ a: I) k. A5 S5 ~; x(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,* U- v' f# C% H
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
& W' ?& N6 K# x& \ Z4 uand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
& |$ r5 y" k/ H" z8 J5 S _" A9 Eimprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not" v6 O- E+ R2 z: K2 {# w) h
more than 6 months

Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
