Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall/ }! B! S5 X; D9 x
not do any of the following:- g0 d4 l6 ~2 R% I8 n! b
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
3 w/ w% U w% G) _; H* y8 h' U' tvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
; f( Y' N& i- j- J1 w4 F! R! B(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
7 `* @2 H }7 f2 a( E9 ^vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
6 d/ ?) {- i6 r(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,$ L0 I; O! l+ n, _
permit another person4 ]- n7 j4 t) |( [* g$ Z. A
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or$ ?: @8 i6 x- [$ X) `! u) c
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
# Y# O; s% m9 C4 l% L& u, sunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
% `! A6 V3 f+ l( U1 `0 M' s(d) give or lend a financial
3 A' Y2 ?& ?4 m" Cresponsibility card or a copy of it8 C1 j2 v7 g) u3 Q+ }6 T
to a person not entitled to have that financial
! \& C. Z( X; `0 Wresponsibility card or copy.
8 D. ]8 J1 L! `5 O8 z(1.1)
9 E- Z7 D% n' z$ J8 D) ~If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway9 V# o0 ~7 ^8 ]
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of5 A& t) ~$ z+ I- i) E$ I) Q- j. M
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
, f# ?0 X- M! v; q0 \(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is/ g0 s- j" \; \7 M1 Q* I
not an insured motor vehicle.

& m: [. Q' w0 z% X: A# m3 p( Q! @If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this
4 t- K/ b- d5 k5 B2 b* vAct, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this# S5 ?- I2 E$ e( I. C- |
section.
% r: h3 ?& b A# T V(3)+ v# `* k0 G6 k/ H& _8 P# E
Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
' t, Q O- B1 i0 D M+ l1 U7 D+ w" }financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the( r: I7 u0 b1 C2 T: X& s& _
Insurance Act4 P) _" M5 o+ j, X2 q
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy- Q% z) R* Y0 ^* x0 i( i
outside Alberta.
% h6 g$ U* @4 P; N; a9 L" W, [, v(4)
6 M% _+ P: W1 X; w7 t3 FA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection4 p- y% @* D" f2 f$ X0 v! G" T1 t
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,9 u( I5 I/ |# A2 s8 e' K5 x2 K
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
( ?& d& Q" V8 Eand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
! b7 |1 n N3 y) `imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
& D; ^5 F) K- P5 D% N7 Dmore than 6 months
2 X+ m- q( T0 y" h, L+ OMinimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
