Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall* G. f. ~5 p4 ]! v* D% f7 P, U
not do any of the following:
3 A5 P4 b# x* K' \6 C(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
) p9 D% `7 u/ ?8 ]: I( mvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
4 ]+ s6 a4 U8 N8 |' h0 x7 Q1 `(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
' g; t ~% G$ V1 P$ Ivehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
2 }" D8 o) [, g8 Y) M(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
. ]# b* ~/ L8 ?" n- [5 Upermit another person
8 i- Z5 m9 `$ y. F( z# [(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or, {8 l2 R& a/ J! h% q9 {
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,9 F p. q9 X" ~" t5 J$ @! X5 }
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;8 o" Q3 O1 n9 G' ]# B5 }
(d) give or lend a financial
y7 _! h( r3 n* ?3 T; Y$ \4 presponsibility card or a copy of it
$ m) z* B' E* I5 Dto a person not entitled to have that financial
( H! n; T. e( q( M% |8 W0 Qresponsibility card or copy.8 l7 S! a5 J- B1 k% [5 J
(1.1)/ {# O0 ~8 w% y8 V$ h8 q
If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
/ k0 I7 l' ?7 U& O; M% rwithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
U1 Q+ v7 Q$ E4 o" N( y ^the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
' t0 M# a2 y5 u E3 y(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is8 a6 ~ U8 c0 @- D( y& g
not an insured motor vehicle.

/ @8 C% `# _* X1 Z" D4 U) Y. }If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this
* } u! v2 b+ x3 |6 F" B% n3 wAct, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this

+ n3 `6 J# H: v: _% ?; `+ eSubsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a* f. G6 V$ X6 t6 C' g, [1 c
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
/ d2 r/ a! {/ K% I% P/ @& e8 SInsurance Act
& k" T7 v5 o( yby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy- j8 Z8 @) F- F4 k0 Y
outside Alberta.9 T) F3 U6 ?# g/ _: [& ?9 o
(4)* P: Y' V2 ~ w8 ~
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
6 ]& u1 I) X4 P! k# d/ R% N(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,$ G% O4 B3 B6 D7 A# j6 K* g8 u
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
1 E) f4 \# S2 ^ j6 Kand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
% t7 n3 K% ~- V! Yimprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not% b' b8 \ U% g- ~' ]
more than 6 months
5 b A0 u+ I* Y; X
Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
