Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
9 ^4 }; _6 v' ?" `% Y9 E+ fnot do any of the following:
! p2 ^2 X2 g* w) c0 f# j$ ~1 s(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor# O6 k: O3 a7 ^
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
) v, @ e1 D* Z5 I% @(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
! @3 z+ G: `* g& n* jvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
2 P! ~% B. ]# {5 A. ]) @7 f: r(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
; L0 ^& A+ k: E; d1 npermit another person8 F& { k) q* @
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
* R1 ]* E. v4 U1 a' C(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
; H+ P; |' U4 F) vunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
3 w) h& ]( c9 H% Z- H- e1 K(d) give or lend a financial
# p# g. s- \# ?* b# x, yresponsibility card or a copy of it" {' {0 S7 m2 O" L/ `
to a person not entitled to have that financial. L A4 @8 H! H: I1 w0 {8 d% i. M
responsibility card or copy.

3 G5 [" f) y9 r5 u& h+ l: dIf a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway0 ^' [$ u1 I# \6 A! [" [' x" L
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
W0 _* [# ^8 g3 \ F, S1 W$ [ qthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection8 b: }- C; v3 f
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is- ?) P. ]- ~- q# N
not an insured motor vehicle.

Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this

Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a" Y1 g2 g% B: U! k$ k C R3 s, h: g
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the. ^5 b5 f& ]2 t0 j. B# H) [# I" x
Insurance Act
# ^6 D$ N0 p, ]/ x$ z. @0 sby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
0 V0 K: I( z! R7 `outside Alberta.9 K9 J! S# T+ z1 K; @0 _

4 y& i5 k7 G3 `! G9 x, Y g; U# |A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
, E. P5 l- g" y. E6 N(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
6 e& X- R7 f7 Q* }) k# |(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500% K0 C; v1 }& ?
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
1 t7 f0 \: e8 J! @. D: s6 a. }imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not$ C" w7 @6 u7 k# s5 `/ w
more than 6 months

Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
