Insurance required

Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall8 Q. p6 }! o3 J& h1 R
not do any of the following:% I0 I7 u. u$ r1 J% Y: Y+ ?
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor, P; |* v5 }9 J+ d8 l) K+ `- L8 v
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;2 |: W, n; \; Y" B
(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor* p, r4 V* k: m. B J+ \. |& N$ k
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
3 X8 W3 k: v V' ^ N8 M(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,' B4 N6 j/ R1 g: ^
permit another person
4 U! y) |9 y$ W3 o5 J/ p(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
# D% ~5 k- |9 B(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
i) c$ K8 ~7 wunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;( e ~9 m4 a g9 k
(d) give or lend a financial
/ }* H, P5 @4 A6 zresponsibility card or a copy of it

! u9 f7 K a# _5 D2 {4 mIf a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway+ K8 W1 [6 P( a: G& Y5 }
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
0 z% t* \; J. b; u8 y9 |the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
5 D2 I* _1 y% g$ Z(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
' h: A5 T6 r1 e6 w3 v' onot an insured motor vehicle." A3 ^. ^; w0 W8 C! b

If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this

: o1 U) z+ n5 ?+ a0 u& ^/ V3 E) ?Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a

5 p% b$ N$ l" u nA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection; W, J' S1 b$ w, q {3 i4 \
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
6 ~& i# E, p8 A9 @% `9 O4 t6 r7 L(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
6 t# F3 A+ L; K3 Xand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to

more than 6 months
