) T& b8 M# Y0 nExcept as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall4 x4 r7 P0 y& U
not do any of the following: }! r' g+ J) y4 Y' h0 S
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
- {, m0 m" i uvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
" E) W( R; U. e/ M(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor$ C7 M5 `+ l# D! ]9 L' G
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
: a* K& k4 c" |& @& B5 ^ f(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,$ p( A5 T& B7 K# }$ b; u
permit another person
; h# i3 p8 r8 L- p/ d' Y(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or* } }1 K2 x) A0 l! e
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,- c& o) i3 C; v }! c, l
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
* U9 a/ @+ E; h; p6 J X% I(d) give or lend a financial
6 Y& |1 S f8 g9 W D `responsibility card or a copy of it
8 Y! b# D% b* qto a person not entitled to have that financial
2 H9 F( s$ j. f5 _, _9 X4 F2 Yresponsibility card or copy.

4 C! H" Q0 F7 | H& xIf a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
* c; G+ }' f( `: pwithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
: D& `3 u9 E; `$ f/ j7 Ythe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection$ A6 R4 u# z, R- Q A
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
. Z) i) t7 x5 D( y7 R' Dnot an insured motor vehicle.
% M1 m; _/ t% E. e( b7 W" {3 c(2)$ P, v* ~- z. ^& c7 ]
If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this
3 E- f% [) e: ~& k% h+ D5 H4 [Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this

Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a$ T8 a g" X4 u$ L" S8 w
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
8 A5 y. g4 l4 X, wInsurance Act7 R7 |, ]$ V& ?
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy6 C5 p0 _/ h8 z( M p+ t( I' a
outside Alberta.9 u. U2 L; {" P0 t* M7 A* y' p
(4): o2 ?0 z8 O. Y' X
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
, W$ \+ C, d5 d7 C e# }5 q(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
$ f8 a; w5 `+ U" ^; d X; Y5 t8 F3 n(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500# z1 {" U2 S6 x; p
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to7 B( t3 i" X/ E1 d. i
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
2 i4 x& m' j. F$ {0 i# l, Pmore than 6 months

Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
