5 e, z# `7 N5 ^2 @1 c3 sExcept as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
, K7 M- D b6 q( o) w/ Xnot do any of the following:& V r3 V. J! u! O2 \
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor$ b5 E& r+ u p( Q
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
( W, x, |! T+ F; Y3 I4 b(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
+ d4 t) u" u6 _& D; j" f+ k3 hvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;- a+ N( V, s' A# c! i/ Q& v- c
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
( T7 g7 E% L( w3 K' U% n3 `permit another person
6 `4 `* b2 M3 @. x+ I(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or, N" m9 n# i+ C- V1 }3 J. s, a
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
3 U6 S& P. A$ W% sunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;' f2 c5 U+ p( Y
(d) give or lend a financial
% t* a0 i% E$ b* uresponsibility card or a copy of it
$ ~. W" s. W6 D( C) s0 Fto a person not entitled to have that financial: i; D3 R t% g" z, B
responsibility card or copy.

5 K1 d! g( h" f+ J% ^If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
8 m. ^/ L7 V# F0 b3 ~% ewithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
; @7 X. f+ L4 y$ o& zthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection3 S% z- A0 h* X z5 [- x
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
( z' O; K7 X% h* Pnot an insured motor vehicle.

5 N) I: [4 [# g4 fIf the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this
. P) \' d0 D3 e; J; i. kAct, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this* y1 t' p8 n4 w! o l, d; m- P

" E5 @9 V- A3 X; l7 HSubsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a3 y4 ~# \; E: A; m( q
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
- n) R9 x+ K% S9 c& JInsurance Act
' e' p5 R0 R' N& @by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy1 D/ [* }6 t8 ~6 G' i* s
outside Alberta.. u7 y: X: h) Y
(4)% c' O0 s$ a' _7 Q6 z* n
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
8 t5 s. v- }. Q5 h) Y( X( a( b(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
- \& U: ~8 s( O/ U* Y(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
1 }2 Z. Q: d2 Y9 d! vand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
( T$ J' F# K; c) I- Timprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not6 K* C/ I9 Y0 g4 a
more than 6 months
$ W& l' O3 Z8 ]3 ?( U4 XMinimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
