Insurance required

not do any of the following:
+ q' J/ i, M2 F6 o(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
6 \, _- T" ]+ J+ N/ j7 tvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
m$ e5 d' h# A8 Q) B& N/ f. H1 j(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
+ k, Q8 V9 X. Q& d2 C( }vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;9 c5 t6 M# G) Z, Z3 [; Y# X R
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,. b: ~1 u2 L- v; f
permit another person
) H6 ]: y+ q$ ^(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
- R4 w* U+ b& y S(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
0 Y0 l% k2 U/ k8 p; B' I$ Xunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
, S& C9 S- X% j- v(d) give or lend a financial
% b3 @: g8 C% Iresponsibility card or a copy of it* ?. L2 [- G; H. O0 l
to a person not entitled to have that financial
3 J N: @) ^$ L6 M% A: wresponsibility card or copy.

If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
! [9 o! l9 z+ O- \5 u* awithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
5 Y/ z0 R* d; z N) |) `& T0 q. B- \the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
/ b X3 f% F6 n9 {1 o/ l(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is6 ^1 x$ w( e5 e/ r4 Y
not an insured motor vehicle.$ V" b/ `' p; v# O0 O

" o: ]& n' e/ j# y# w' {4 vIf the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this( v9 G& ~: x" o! n1 R+ u
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this* Q* u7 i z2 u+ U; K6 ?3 b' L$ X
section.+ K' ]+ H" q/ U* h
(3)5 ?* g1 A0 [0 ~+ X' G
Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
! E+ q$ n8 [! a4 P4 |; d6 dfinancial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
! `! m/ `+ b, O) x1 j' u vInsurance Act
8 ?* p% `6 w7 |by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
' ]9 v2 G/ ^5 a7 M5 _outside Alberta.
' T" g8 N* t* q(4), p# V! V( Z* U
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
+ Q9 n/ j9 m5 D+ X) n+ u% J9 f: {- m(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
, Z$ k$ d2 h* H2 I* F(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
8 p7 Y0 w/ n" t2 j! H) u0 land not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to. }! o5 j S* H1 \+ O: _
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
* Q6 a) s) H( d2 O4 [more than 6 months
+ c2 ]$ v4 R4 c& pMinimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
