Insurance required

Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
+ _3 a; q; i& i: f! X0 l! S# Knot do any of the following:3 r2 \4 I) l# e: W
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor4 n. U: R. F4 Z, H! y1 ?
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
& t% @8 H& a& T+ k+ `& [(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor$ d! E R, [( z5 C5 i5 s* X
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;6 f) m2 P& h9 ?; Y+ C
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
- X z1 l5 N3 n# C8 lpermit another person; n7 G, g8 q. o
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or8 P( \/ i% n7 C3 Y
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,( b; ], _* g8 f
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;, m: O/ B. T: s2 L$ f( n# w7 B
(d) give or lend a financial) I; k3 T0 M, e
responsibility card or a copy of it
3 v. _# e6 }6 K* e. H2 G$ Z! y6 Hto a person not entitled to have that financial
+ X3 B7 i+ s2 ]$ d9 ~$ j5 kresponsibility card or copy.

If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway& A6 b0 u( H3 K; n
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
* N* d& c% O8 s& \; {% ?# gthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
' I6 W. Z" S& U" Z7 m3 R; c(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is O; d2 I( U {2 y* g X( V
not an insured motor vehicle.0 l4 A/ `. E% ]! A9 T

Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this: i# p, r7 Z9 T* W; p( v

(3)% ?# H) f- n/ |2 X2 z5 E
Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
/ F* O& h6 X6 c# W, n/ U. N/ k% \financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
; y+ h6 W# y6 }( N" I6 v& q2 E5 U0 vInsurance Act
; z8 X, {5 A: |" d, A9 mby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
$ ?/ t) F6 w. R: Y( ioutside Alberta.# Q% T5 A/ w( O$ Q: u
(4)7 S2 v. w; D7 K& S* s) p7 U
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
. R; k% D& t/ x(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,8 q9 i' }: Y! S7 i" f5 h4 i* d
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
- K. x) O, F+ H/ ~. wand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to7 l$ O! v6 J& d, n4 S: M
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not4 r0 ], N0 i4 \, f
more than 6 months
8 i+ @( Q7 t, G2 T7 u5 r: s# y5 ]) u. J M9 `1 V
Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
