Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
0 {% l( ~% u, B% U9 N! D4 vnot do any of the following:
P6 [! w) Q# V, X8 e(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor# m' Q# S& l& ^1 a1 \7 @
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
9 u2 e+ ^) \: E8 n( M1 b. h8 y3 s7 q(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
0 C$ b6 y! ^1 }9 A; E1 Z, P: Zvehicle is an insured motor vehicle; z1 r6 V& ^' }$ I; ?
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
- \3 J/ L+ r; ], E* Y3 ipermit another person% U6 C/ w" H) }6 j+ E4 u
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
7 e- r' ]' K% ~+ `. u! h(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,$ c2 ?; b9 W5 s; ~. w+ c
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle; w! I- ~* @/ n4 l% e
(d) give or lend a financial/ G! }4 H9 O8 _2 O4 U" s. i
responsibility card or a copy of it' z6 D g( y/ ~" p4 M, s: {
to a person not entitled to have that financial
5 B8 I+ Z3 z; e8 ]: tresponsibility card or copy., z( R& q7 s% E, i. U
(1.1) ^% O1 s: ]5 l m$ Q
If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway9 g) \8 T+ g% ^# Z+ A( Z' j
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of/ ^% B! _# H4 Y. q+ O
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
' n6 n0 H, {' L(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is0 p( d. I; q+ s! n1 ]) u& ]1 {; |
not an insured motor vehicle.) V' J4 s% {$ ?2 Y5 Q% ?, f
(2)$ m% Q1 U# ^/ e( ]* ?( j2 p
If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this5 v+ M" q: e3 F6 Y5 i6 h
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this
" C, } _5 o3 D A) v% @section.

8 J: X6 W6 M0 k4 v1 O8 O: R5 cSubsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a( {9 v0 T1 G2 {0 X8 O1 t/ l
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
, x. ?% ^+ C) `0 H4 |1 E: S$ r2 ?Insurance Act* W6 K4 r' v1 |# u& S9 p: ]
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy/ m& t/ X* E2 Z8 P% V6 u& H$ L L# Y
outside Alberta.4 o7 T& d' }& p( M, ?, j
(4). U' d6 S. {2 j2 \5 Y1 k
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection0 N; @2 L6 U4 R, \% e5 k: K, k
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,+ L: [& N+ }- u ? o* Z% X2 l
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500, A4 {+ ~# B! I4 ~+ x! U) Z& ^
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to/ Y% b6 u& x, g& C
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not# w; D) t, P8 ?+ Q5 {, f
more than 6 months
+ K' v. G0 Q; V$ i6 R2 V, R4 z: }5 k( v X0 p
Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
