Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall- M D# Z/ l; ^
not do any of the following:/ f; R4 s/ m& ]) a
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
$ s+ r( \- ~$ Q( G. wvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
% ^) E6 \# K5 X4 O4 ^# i(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
1 k9 G* w7 _& D/ _7 bvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;+ n# q& e$ U( J- Y1 c* h
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
; n9 d2 i. M! R/ {permit another person; T L( @+ D" B
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or1 L6 ~3 V9 {& V# a5 h, R8 G" s
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
$ {1 W9 `& c8 W# f/ I Dunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
3 f5 B$ v7 D, J' e1 a: N9 {5 U) i(d) give or lend a financial: F, L0 ]+ X+ R) ~% p9 ~3 A
responsibility card or a copy of it. t2 ^& `- L; y( \4 O: f0 c/ E
to a person not entitled to have that financial

8 a. P0 z$ X) x+ ]If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway. |5 ^- L4 c1 K! b% K! Z
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
0 E( m. G9 Y# x. I7 W$ p* zthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
$ a1 g6 }$ C$ P6 r# }(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is* Z- I; n6 Z' Y0 |- D
not an insured motor vehicle.

0 Q4 d" c! W! M& wIf the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this# |; [% l' ]. u
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this

Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
5 f$ p# v( m" X- d: ~7 Afinancial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the% K1 `, l0 O3 Q; ^% C2 s
Insurance Act
& ^& H6 K9 r' t0 l1 i0 c' l0 Yby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
1 R& |* Z1 |: _3 @6 }( `outside Alberta.
, D9 |4 c3 H' p0 A(4)
/ J, l; R, U T8 U& ^7 nA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
0 g# Y4 n+ [2 J- {* A(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,8 {9 }# _) P- g, \) U8 ^
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500! F+ ^ X1 g9 z) J0 r
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
! _& J4 a! ?5 H9 o" I! X) B' Limprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not1 ]+ u7 f5 j( Y c" g7 u2 c; n
more than 6 months

Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
