EDMONTON — The West Edmonton Mall has reopened after police investigated a suspicious package Tuesday morning.& ^2 I% [) u; Z/ c$ M2 G) v
/ P% M1 R) {5 m5 v/ k
The item, which turned out to be a DVD player, was reported to police just after 8:30 a.m. and officers swooped in to shut down entrances to the shopping centre.0 c" z7 j0 ?- ?( D0 ~- _; q
3 `( p# r* p* I. H/ {$ V* BPolice evacuated the mall, and a short time later determined the package was merely a DVD player left on a bench outside the SportCheck store.) ?, b* `& p1 p; p: b* m

"I think we made a very measured response and dealt with the safely issues appropriately," said Staff Sgt. Steve Jones. "We just contained an area within the mall."
