1 M6 e; R( W9 d& J3 ?EDMONTON — The West Edmonton Mall has reopened after police investigated a suspicious package Tuesday morning.

The item, which turned out to be a DVD player, was reported to police just after 8:30 a.m. and officers swooped in to shut down entrances to the shopping centre.

Police evacuated the mall, and a short time later determined the package was merely a DVD player left on a bench outside the SportCheck store.

"I think we made a very measured response and dealt with the safely issues appropriately," said Staff Sgt. Steve Jones. "We just contained an area within the mall."" U5 i& N4 E, t5 r
