　　North country scene:
                                                                                               
　　A hundred leagues locked in ice,

　　A thousand leagues of whirling snow.

2 }  N6 S6 S6 L　　Both sides of the Great Wall
3 t) Z- w2 K9 r7 r& f7 P9 B
' b4 h, ?" ?8 M' c: h　　One single white immensity.
4 D, y) q: w! `4 H
　　The Yellow River"s swift current

　　Is stilled from end to end.

　　The mountains dance like silver snakes
6 o4 \/ P* B2 d: c+ m4 u* T  {: o9 ^
! h1 G( f+ x5 O4 j2 h　　And the highlands* charge like wax-hued elephants,
; Y  y0 A/ X* X" Q
8 A4 \2 A4 l% ]2 q( v. u- @$ l  H2 H　　Vying with heaven in stature.

　　On a fine day, the land,

　　Clad in white, adorned in red,

" ?. w4 A4 S( P% ]" A5 }1 N　　Grows more enchanting.

' }8 o4 P; u( T1 S: }! L　　This land so rich in beauty

　　Has made countless heroes bow in homage.

　　But alas! Chin Shih-huang and Han Wu-ti

　　Were lacking in literary grace,

　　And Tang Tai-tsung and Sung Tai-tsu

4 S. _9 V. `" [4 Z5 B3 Q　　Had little poetry in their souls;

" K4 q! B' K" J+ a% m, s　　Proud Son of Heaven for a day,

1 X9 W5 A& i9 Q0 E( Y& @　　Knew only shooting eagles, bow outstretched

. U( Z0 x/ ]$ b( V2 i, ]# o# a　　All are past and gone!

　　Look to this age alone.
