　　A hundred leagues locked in ice,

  e7 P8 D. d  a6 `: z; s6 u, t  J7 }　　A thousand leagues of whirling snow.

　　Both sides of the Great Wall
, v/ B& ~! Y  U
　　One single white immensity.

% y3 B% p) n: R3 T+ m　　The Yellow River"s swift current
8 O9 e  v. I$ `. a/ I+ n3 R
8 S4 g" G# v! C( ~　　Is stilled from end to end.

　　The mountains dance like silver snakes
' X2 c- P* ~1 h% h  G3 {
8 |5 _- u2 }% z- E  }　　And the highlands* charge like wax-hued elephants,

　　Vying with heaven in stature.

! T( m0 B) h8 y& e　　On a fine day, the land,

  O+ h1 X8 a3 D5 W* e　　Clad in white, adorned in red,

( H: _+ k2 ?! T# ^　　This land so rich in beauty

　　Has made countless heroes bow in homage.

1 }8 h2 X' [' ?  P  }% g　　But alas! Chin Shih-huang and Han Wu-ti

& c, }& h& P: K9 Z# K' A! Y　　Were lacking in literary grace,

　　And Tang Tai-tsung and Sung Tai-tsu

. n1 U2 l7 l9 V# [+ |% Z　　Had little poetry in their souls;
　　And Genghis Khan,

1 E; d, R3 R' k3 u1 J. X. X6 c! J　　Proud Son of Heaven for a day,

　　Knew only shooting eagles, bow outstretched
! i( @9 H5 O/ Z9 ?9 ~/ s
　　All are past and gone!

　　For truly great men

' ~7 T% k% d& U4 A- X( ?: N* E　　Look to this age alone.
