1) Community Dialogue Project Phase 1& c. y+ z# ~ X3 g( h- X
I'd like to invite people to join our new Community Dialogue project.' c+ U) ]( x0 w
In phase 1 we have a couple of extra spots available for Community
0 `5 [% J3 l" l- q1 _Engagement Training.
* {! s7 I s+ O) @2 u
! N& I! }: z! AWe can accept a few people to join us this Friday (3~6 p.m.)and Saturday,
7 C8 x1 } F4 d(9~3 p.m. ) to improve skills in building multicultural neighbourhood
) l' i6 D, X. ~4 @* ^0 pgroups. We're especially focused on developing groups that can work
7 X- C, L8 p1 ] \& wtogether across cultures to create community projects and Action for Healthy5 ^" Q+ t2 o* D0 V- N$ r2 i
Communities can often support these projects with funding of up to $1,000.7 @( l5 v" U% W j4 Y

Set on the remote Papua New Guinea Island of Bougainville in the South
! z0 ?8 z7 Y. R3 q+ }$ RPacific, "Bougainville Sky" is the story of how music helped overcome years5 K$ G5 W! W8 C9 D
of fear and distrust to rebuild peace in a war torn society. When bitter) ~) s- s, g3 s2 P1 \* A' O
conflict on Bougainville Island ended in 1997, the combatants invited the
3 e# j7 E' {9 finternational community to send in a Peacekeeping force on one condition:
3 ]8 \! W! } e; uthey come unarmed. Amongst the Peacekeepers was young Australian songwriter
( A) r. B: k/ mIain Campbell Smith, whose music and radio program became a legend on the
2 w* d' R7 a1 P' G' e7 Aisland and contributed to the success of the world¹s first unarmed* i4 H! Z( P2 |8 u a
international peacekeeping operation.
/ t# {% |$ R3 W: k4 H2 c$ g/ j5 `, r1 l/ a
This beautifully shot film allows the Bougainvillean people to tell their0 Y1 t, Y7 C7 B: r6 d$ _: ^
own story and captures the struggles, the strength and the humor of a people2 S+ Y9 \8 }1 O. H* f6 f. ?7 g9 ~9 h
who brought themselves back from the chaos of war. At a time when our TV. ~9 P. C' f& L" M5 i. z
screens are filled with images from the interventions in Iraq and* Q( y) k# c/ Y! J( I
Afghanistan, the success story of the Bougainville peace process seems
5 t2 P0 Y$ e5 J" j5 o5 ~) Wimprobable: an unarmed international intervention fostering local customs
! q7 Z+ K* j) l, `- ^2 Eand music to strengthen an indigenous-run peace process < and it worked!
p' u' y- n4 k s a$ h7 E) D& \9 v/ p
According to Smith "the fact that we were unarmed was critical to the
% `0 I3 J, O7 Ysuccess of the peace process in Bougainville. It set the tone for the whole3 P4 ]3 ~# ~ z! ?0 Z6 K7 S$ J
process, and put responsibility for the safety of the Peacekeepers in the
N& R$ `& g9 u7 s! F9 c% Fhands of the militants and the people, rather than the other way around.; i, |! n. `, z1 f
Also, because we were unarmed we couldn't scare anyone into doing anything,
