Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:: H5 s" A2 a/ a8 X& t/ @; A# l
Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works* H2 Y: }. ]( @0 b+ l8 e5 p
• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.( B' R3 t9 L* ?% H" y+ V5 ]
• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
]" U' t" l) j/ T; B3 k6 l4 u• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.

% }9 {7 I) [+ v% h3 n" K' V6 l- N• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing. ! g/ K! | }% A' s8 {9 n) |
• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
* O9 L9 j) S9 r& d# L• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.* E. M# {% \! C6 G
• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.& C/ W, ?5 b8 `3 E" a
• Pesticide Applicators license an asset.) r( ]; A5 O& K+ u, c
• Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.

• Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).7 u: m6 V0 q# `4 V2 O& O
• Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.

• Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.) y8 W+ \# X3 k; }
• Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
. s, L; N Z+ v) ~$ {• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.( a/ |' n- }* w
• Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.+ O/ |) u7 z d" I2 d
• Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.

• Loading and unloading materials from trucks.% z2 t3 O' S; Q; g0 `
• Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.( Z) E. C, G- w& b- t
Job Requirements:# k( j$ g2 `/ p6 W
• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.
. H% a) v W: ?• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.

• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
* z4 ^7 J5 w$ r' l5 y. z• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.' e3 C9 E4 l( D& ]- i( n+ I
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions. @ J( B* Z7 a( z/ i Q! c# ]
• Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.$ L, C: E9 S( N* Q9 B P' P
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
4 \ n4 \3 C* T% B- t) z. [SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.+ V! y$ j6 t* k- A d, C8 e! M& f
