Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:3 H0 o- r* e$ _/ ^+ ?! O
Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works9 F1 x. ~+ R' E( I
• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.. E! p! ?2 ]2 K0 r' H# s0 c6 [+ e
• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.# J3 r" o; U0 Y
• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.; N) o7 \+ U0 \/ v& j$ Q6 [
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works
- _+ s5 F5 u7 w$ H6 z3 @5 @• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
2 F1 B- g% q, b• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.0 W6 _) K& V/ H% n- ~. J. V$ b5 M. k
• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.' i Y, h2 i4 ^5 @' C
• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.

Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
/ C/ w b6 o, Q- W! U ?• Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
5 }1 O6 l! z6 C• Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights)., O% m% z, D, K$ R& v
• Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.' n4 @' D( s, n$ H6 t6 G
• Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.

Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services: x& [+ _6 j7 o( N7 n2 x
• Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
& k* V2 ]+ W1 v• Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
2 j' V" u: Q7 u7 t/ O• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.

• Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.8 |' q! M, s% H k& M+ b

• Loading and unloading materials from trucks.

Job Requirements:
4 f1 J- N% d6 R" i) j4 m( F: p• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.
+ d# l) G: p r4 [# ]• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.7 l: o9 {$ Q n2 ?7 @% T. h) L
• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.9 b) S4 K* c5 @, g: ~7 B' E% M
• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.4 r- T$ g! {- @
• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
% ?7 S0 E, R& I6 y2 F2 H• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
) N- F$ z. B/ |1 M3 |• Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.' {' @6 x* }& ^
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
1 {# N0 x; w; sSALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
