Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
5 u; n  w( j! SDrainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
0 Y5 y& b2 I& x4 x9 W# e•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
9 {, c$ q, j+ X) x  \9 C" o•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works
" P7 ^7 s  C8 I* s! d& |. ~•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
' [5 v, Z$ E* ~. s1 }•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
7 s3 K: K4 z; X4 d9 t•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
) K/ a( f& H! L& v6 i# x& _•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
# f  O6 F# _8 Q. Y# y3 Z. TRoadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
: A& l0 ~# U8 \! h•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
  Y' U9 Y5 w, c: g  B: A* P4 z# J8 N•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
% r4 _% C2 V6 V' |' v, z•        Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.
Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services
•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
( a+ x/ }, X; _1 h& A•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
+ o1 W4 M& l+ S•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
•        Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.
Functions of all positions:
" R) H5 V. ~1 t: [•        Loading and unloading materials from trucks.
•        Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.
Job Requirements:
•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
+ g9 G2 Z0 G$ g5 y+ s•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
% u: Q% O# }. C8 @•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
