" K* K! U+ E: c4 ?' jSpecific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
& d3 G# L) x/ t* ZDrainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
# Z8 E1 M* {8 S0 K  f•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works
•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
. [0 }  ^9 E" g4 ^8 R, F•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
' Z! f) ]  o# @. ^6 _) A* c- M•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
7 z- w( O7 x% k6 o% c9 Q# i•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
•        Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
" f% ]0 m: o6 {•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.
Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services
4 k5 K' U& P# s  F3 p0 X•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
. H) U$ c  i& i; m! W+ Y•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
1 j5 z7 j& R5 P4 j) l) R0 e( h•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
3 i6 B; c) F( X  d3 R: m•        Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.
  ~& m0 G, P  d3 rFunctions of all positions:
•        Loading and unloading materials from trucks.
; c. w) T) ^0 b: D0 x; c$ c•        Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.
Job Requirements:
! H. S% P) d- G( ~•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
; S; t7 G2 D" t) k•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
. F) e5 Z! S# d•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
6 R1 B, a" \" I( x•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
) V. P, h3 d5 x5 f0 w( K1 yHOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
2 d  ^8 f7 {' t" [; K' Y6 tSALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
