Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
1 O0 p# E2 n8 u( Q9 eDrainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
. f ?6 A: Q( G• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
& m* g6 u' N) w& s0 m• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.8 g3 F8 ]2 h% @) P' Q' _0 n
• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.' Parks, Asset Management & Public Works8 o2 M Z; v( z7 `% o: X
• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
& }7 b: P2 w0 B7 u4 m- O• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
* v4 ]# [+ v% n• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps./ z( Y6 f F9 u' d2 Y
• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.# @# K( k9 W1 |% ?" Q
• Pesticide Applicators license an asset.

• Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.7 q! w. Z$ S; z! Y
• Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
( P& E3 ~8 r0 R# ], }$ u! W• Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.

• Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.

• Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.2 e7 l4 Z o3 z
• Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration. I7 c6 r0 W* A1 \: ^8 c
• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.

• Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities. ?" c j1 i3 j n1 O8 a) g
Functions of all positions:

• Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.6 ?: L- u0 c* M6 N w3 w: @
Job Requirements:; C% i! V8 \* Z" E8 o- e: ]: p
• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.. E2 h" _9 e8 n4 F
• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
- }7 f; P' ?2 z! j3 W( z• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.& D5 d8 A# }. T
• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.4 u3 u# G% L5 h+ Y9 k, p
• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.

• Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.! L4 o3 x* v2 \) s" W
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
' {8 t" _! j( K. V: RSALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
