" a; X" ~5 c( M4 kSpecific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
+ r$ e  }# P: x3 R1 S•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
5 a$ C* h9 g# X2 ?& Q•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works
•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
+ E7 J8 D8 T9 m! L4 v•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
. q& f, U, r+ `; o•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
. @* K/ o, a, J8 i4 {; I8 q•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
* Q9 P5 W9 \/ V1 f1 L! YRoadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
# ?5 \+ X% D8 I) R•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
& Q% w2 f; p" F& e- r3 s•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
$ n4 C: F  g; E1 a. e9 ^•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
- l* }7 F, F( J7 Z: m4 Z•        Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.
3 G- M4 h" {  b* rRecreation Facilities Branch, Community Services
. ?- q/ l- y9 {8 ]6 J% r•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
8 _7 N$ }' ?( b- Q0 @•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
•        Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.
Functions of all positions:
+ K+ G: X' f" I* T& z% d( A- Z•        Loading and unloading materials from trucks.
9 W" h5 _5 e" e8 U' e# a8 \2 `, I3 T•        Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.
- B& N2 b  \- a3 b3 kJob Requirements:
& T8 c6 a! ?) A7 [: V: d2 D•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
1 v: j; y7 j1 j/ s•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
- c) t+ d: P2 N0 z. ~9 c•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
2 D1 [# F2 [* G) E* Y•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
7 `: [- E9 m! `2 F9 M. w•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
) D" u% b# [+ d. q1 a" t' C3 B7 GHOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
