Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
. ~) c1 V. ]& s& @) Z•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.

•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
1 D3 E- y- w7 {! C4 r; r0 l•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
; V3 L. r" D# g' m* {2 O  f4 j•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
/ g6 C* M4 A3 _" r/ ?& F•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
4 i2 N4 i; \) M6 R/ y2 H•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
& d. O1 T3 J' ~' A; B, ^6 v•        Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.
, A4 E+ g. d; s! Z1 ?- H! CRecreation Facilities Branch, Community Services
•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
! j( v; ^  d: U•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
! B8 [3 n6 t  U; C•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
% p3 a" z4 U4 B•        Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.
Functions of all positions:
•        Loading and unloading materials from trucks.
7 f$ P  o8 w# x0 H9 {* w, u•        Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.
) a! u8 T+ }! y/ A0 k- ~# ?% I- RJob Requirements:
; e3 R! r4 L3 T: F•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
7 }) Z; d0 a7 L& L5 d( P6 g& |•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
! }" z) l7 G) h" a2 ?* l" y4 v•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
& \1 X* O6 y& L3 Z- [+ J9 _•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
. R' k! b1 _" D  a. d3 z: f' `' y•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
! F9 M! ?  J1 ~1 [- L7 R8 u•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
