! A+ b* X6 O! z7 X8 Y7 {JOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
" A4 g! H& H8 Z) n! Q7 vthe Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
" j% @4 Z4 v, u+ O2 X2 X2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
Council in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
year following their appointment.

) Z& R8 M7 H- j/ Z) bDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000

; F) F- W# r: d, y+ q2 H2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.

3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.

8 N& u/ f4 U* {0 V7 A4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
adequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
+ |2 m: P: @3 zacross campus, and advertising the poll locations.

1 \. I1 B; Z+ V% |& @0 H5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
referenda.

6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate

7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/
2 v* m2 I" H1 |% }; l% E* kreferendum.

* x7 h  ^9 b. M0 p6 U To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
Bylaw 2000.

8 H/ B% E1 e& B* [, L8 V10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
minimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
from the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
, X6 h) m  F+ [4 g3 ~of voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.

11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
the course of an election/referendum.

12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  
7 q% U1 d' N$ X( D3 vprocess is in place.

13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
of activities and recommendations.

/ Q7 x/ y4 }6 P14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  
of campaigning.

; X+ P3 V9 b% N3 U* p/ m3 z15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council

QUALIFICATIONS:
0 y/ b5 l0 ^3 H; @. s
1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  
Union member.

) @5 M8 I  e: @& F% n6 Y2) Must have some experience in student elections.
# t: x# |8 q9 o- L# a
5 F" b( i% Z5 ?! ^3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
. }7 |5 x2 y1 ]7 T3 ?. ~0 \: tany of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  
with the Students' Union.

4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.

5) Excellent project management skills are required.

; z) U0 X' _/ P3 K. u% ~5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University  
staff, students and the general public.
