Remuneration: $6,032.00 contract

4 c* F! S8 i, f0 N7 Q. IJOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  " C. W" `/ t8 p9 i" C
the Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  - u0 B! \$ e: c
2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  ) l: Z* T5 d6 m
Council in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  & R8 {; K  O! F8 u& p
Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  + F0 p7 `8 a: X8 W4 D; w
year following their appointment.3 V1 Z' n0 @9 C

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- P1 w+ N5 t6 p" `1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000

; z) `( f9 V2 ~* N2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.

1 }; v1 W5 K: N0 D  D5 w& s; k3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.

, Q( W8 n# I# a+ Z& x9 p, B4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
* w9 y: s/ j( q. ?7 ladequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  : F$ p0 ^+ {8 ~- F- I# r
across campus, and advertising the poll locations." o- K0 H5 z; J

- g, l4 }% E/ l7 J5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/ ( X% U8 T0 m/ g+ ^- R8 M
referenda.

6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  
) ?6 u4 v/ I* s5 uparties.3 M. {- u# q' ^+ v

; M1 r- _5 {; P( c* d; \2 e7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/
! X! Z1 V  E; g) v5 lreferendum.0 ?+ r9 {: ?( u& Q. ^0 J

To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  ( e/ ~0 ^6 _# Y* L# N
Bylaw 2000.
+ f0 j: x) }6 n# x1 ?3 B5 l' o8 c3 _8 \6 D$ _
10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  / F8 Q9 r% U, m8 z
minimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  3 C8 p; Y' J/ K0 \% Q. i( c
from the first working day after nominations close until the last day  7 X2 I0 m; R* c* B
of voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.  [! w- Y; [* V. V4 `$ m8 R- l" E

11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
5 T/ }9 g, A' n* U, d8 }+ m+ Vthe course of an election/referendum.

9 q9 a  E( ~( _+ ?* i8 C12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  
7 d; N, r9 M1 C6 A1 z+ ]: ]process is in place.

13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  1 c$ Y: M! d% A/ X5 [# r
of activities and recommendations.; P* {1 P. y- q! G/ t* M/ {& g

; I. X' y& l) V$ V14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  4 Q, }, _' z' f7 k$ e9 R8 y
of campaigning.3 y9 k; {% S2 |' E1 g0 o: @' S9 {

% w) X! g" `1 g8 ]: ]" i9 G7 m; R15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council

QUALIFICATIONS:% G4 J- T2 _  \4 ^, |; A) J, v, R8 j

7 D! u" l, h1 Y2 z# B! f' Y1 ]1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
. g. t4 t8 [4 F, z0 O4 |& K$ xfor each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  ' y( i2 G( K8 x8 V& K) L
Union member.
5 V3 f7 p+ }; F2 Q8 s
0 c6 x5 Y7 o  {* ^  g( v2) Must have some experience in student elections.
2 B. k4 b  ]+ ]/ {4 q& B, T. n0 [; Y) S, I/ D7 N
3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
, X7 h+ O+ P% n4 s$ cany of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  
* C0 R( z+ `* Y1 ]. h' iwith the Students' Union.

4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours./ T. V# S* T! E3 m/ _" m7 z
