Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
6 c! s! ]* x' O  l/ F•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
; e$ D" J+ U  d. B6 W* K. L: T* {•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
3 [3 v; n" _8 C* H% x1 {( o•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

1 f( r# e6 U. G5 g. ?; ?•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

7 F  N* r5 t- V8 w* dJOB REQUIREMENTS:
- h$ Y: s- e9 [; M5 \1 D' r. s•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
; W! h- X( ?2 Pto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
of the day.
. G; E5 e/ L6 B- y, ~•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
8 R) G1 \& z+ D" g•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
. z2 u+ m% w- O# K9 T+ v•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
5 w7 ?5 k8 }, T, J4 A( d•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
3 V& t0 ]0 H* zvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
8 D. z9 D4 |, w4 x1 m•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
* L+ e5 Z# D" M•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week

Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
