Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.; ^4 R+ m; ]+ h1 s: a' e

• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.( V; f' e. m& \% I
• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.0 g8 V5 a3 p" ]1 t
• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.- y2 n# N3 b& Z
• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

• Adhere to schedules.3 [" f8 s- ]! b* Q) N1 J
• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations. * Y- F$ K4 Y. @

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
+ c" [# R% q( H+ }. D6 H• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
: }; s* a& ~0 |4 q& }' S$ K1 t) X& c• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
' a# k% D7 s9 w; w# a( V/ n1 Y2 u% ]to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.4 S# v$ p" e/ @2 j M: k1 h
• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.6 J* f7 O: D8 p$ A
• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) , Y) |% u4 L5 C; ^7 h0 f
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
0 G6 z1 e" y0 Y6 m+ `• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
' O4 x$ z0 V6 {6 Q2 B- ~video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).6 S7 A7 z" ~# ?, ?( K# l& S
• Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
% B( k$ Q' s( |* b• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.9 E8 G$ H, o: r$ h4 e7 m

9 D- G }' t6 f& }$ f2 RVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week " \, W& R! s+ H6 c g* J2 d) C; w# C
1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
, N9 E* U+ S r& @7 n1 _# SThereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly
