Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.( w9 d2 g( M2 J7 O" Q- L
• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
" T+ {* j; V# w, B* R• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
) c" A" K* L- i: F/ T* G• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather : A' s& W$ D) v! c

• Adhere to schedules.

" C9 C4 a! a' x$ K& Z4 `( C• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.& j8 \3 F" F* k
• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
0 M. A4 t1 s- rto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

Q1 ^/ A1 a) o/ d2 S9 s• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
- [1 Q, U% w0 M; k. ~! c• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.( ~1 q( K8 S$ ~. K# g1 c% s& x; f
• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.) g" }& M+ r, M" J7 U
• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
; A( r0 T1 F; s4 x$ Jshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. 4 V- m+ U/ Y( E3 o
• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill * `. N ^ w0 D2 G9 I
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week # P' M! \( h: D$ n9 ]6 t
1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
3 B) h, @4 `' IThereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE: 401, Salary Grade: 004 # G2 H6 p2 z/ i& j1 Z) y5 k* J1 @% i
Training Rate: $16.56 Hourly

The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.7 L! P( W% z( R$ G
