6 ?0 O3 h8 G3 I- p% L/ `Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
% Y: G$ W( r$ k" K$ b# v•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.+ ?+ J4 \5 k9 ?- u: h# D# p
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers., f& P# G  a) |5 f* @( D
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
7 q3 b. I. x/ [) g" ^; H•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

•        Adhere to schedules." L3 T8 c; H" {+ K2 x  W
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations. 9 B, i2 @3 j' L2 W
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
# X6 F! b# d- U; K: F3 {•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.
; b# [* e0 F) M, i2 O. g•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.+ Z- Q2 f1 l1 |, \' J( a
•        Provide excellent customer service.

•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
8 D& o1 f7 c$ x•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability 9 h* U- |# s. l+ y; H% L4 G0 V
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger 4 B+ `: B, p3 K" y" e$ }
of the day., x0 y1 `, P6 a: p0 y4 Y; `
•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
0 D8 z1 s$ g9 k  r•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.* o# G) f  ~$ h, m2 H( S
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
; S6 Z' k; z3 q: y" f( z•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) * r; g- @& ]( C( j; m9 [
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. 4 \$ e6 p0 D( S3 y6 F9 j
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill 3 B* w" o  W; T! K
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
# |: n! m# S; n6 g•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program." x2 `# G' _# ]6 Y
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.9 u2 o1 |& b4 S

HOURS OF WORK:  S  ~  I/ p+ X& ^" X4 p
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
( x1 I( p0 i) G0 m6 e1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
* @2 M5 `" F+ y2 b! i' PThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly( \* F  r9 B, {' P6 ?7 U# G. S8 h
% T+ g" P& y1 y6 F: V
SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
) _, f  e: u$ S- l) \6 u1 zTraining Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
7 u; b9 E6 P  O( r5 Z, PPost Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly/ O6 z1 F+ n, ]$ [0 F4 h# w. ]3 m
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
