$ g) t; F& Q; dEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

+ S8 o: {# v; S  F, L' n. w6 D/ uFUNCTIONS:
•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
6 O: q( r5 ]- y8 X- |) a•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
/ U/ P8 M) G4 U2 r8 d* |•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.
•        Adhere to schedules.
5 \! n' z8 I: |•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
. l: b) y  R* r- m  D  S4 [•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
) x: d* K( |% i9 R5 k2 [2 {, g•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.
4 [9 {* O/ I2 y/ C9 j•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
•        Provide excellent customer service.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

1 j  |, i: e% i& V. l$ Y•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
! i) Q( L! G8 D•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
$ r5 d* ~" }1 y4 j) B2 avideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
2 R3 l+ ^- h. [. h: O" J9 \Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
' b' \1 e! h& P  Z3 I/ o! g6 ?1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
# j# E+ x; x; \- U1 _' YThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly
