# p- w# H" h( P" h+ FEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

0 m2 A* A- ~  K2 W/ i1 kFUNCTIONS:
•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
3 d3 ?: r3 w- \+ T1 g•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
; t% `: ?# Q6 c5 H/ P3 k! o( B•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.
  d& @+ K( E' P0 I* K, [/ _, V•        Adhere to schedules.
; M* c+ w9 T& M* O/ p" u4 I+ _•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.
•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
•        Provide excellent customer service.

) |- Y. h  \7 B" PJOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
& J" K2 g- z9 t1 q4 N4 X9 X. ~6 F•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

' u: L1 I* e' C1 s; E) y•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
% w4 S5 c$ M) X& B•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
1 S) G; E) S" z  Y( S3 C3 V" g( B•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
# u+ q6 m, l5 ]7 o2 j, rshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
' H% A0 [2 U- c/ n/ ]3 t( f  _1 N•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
1 M0 N" Q6 }4 j: l; f( P•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

: F0 l! ^( c! z2 x" J- {HOURS OF WORK:
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

$ L, r8 f- h5 B8 ^6 eSALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
/ Y/ o7 }5 o7 T" oPost Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
