Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.0 W I( a3 a- h6 e/ U
• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
" l$ j1 O# V. Z4 V• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
; `! U" n* P) j+ W& B4 A7 t• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

• Adhere to schedules.
! Q! R7 g8 y( c) i) _! T• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset., d$ [. c( N3 Q; N+ S
• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability / D; ^& j! C* {% |5 {
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

2 `/ b! N& |( E% d+ ?• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
: s) Q1 n, z. g3 @0 u• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.. O. |' E0 k( Z. @2 X
• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.: R2 P$ M5 _; p# F
• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) , r, G% s0 M/ e! L$ s: B1 _6 P o% A
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
/ k( k' j8 l1 v$ M9 h- E( \6 A• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill : _) V9 x; x5 g8 n" R, n
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).$ N4 } g: z9 W, S4 f! S& ~
• Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.' f4 s% w- V# I
• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week + _! b7 T- n$ [+ D. }( F; g: ~
1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly

The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
